Apologies with the audio sync issue with the original video! It's fixed now and I've added a lot more secrets, a secret sea monster boss battle and the true ending, so it even better this time! :) To save time certain parts of the game are condensed (finding the eggs, backtracking, failed attempts, etc). A full first playthrough to reach the true ending probably takes over 10 hours.
This is the first game published by Dunkey's company BigMode. The actual dev is just one person, Billy Basso, who made EVETYTHING in this game himself.
I honestly saw the previews for this and thought to myself "This looks interesting, but is it really worth my time?". I can confirm this is 100% worth it and not only that, the dev respects your time as a gamer.
the game looks very entertaining, at first i was liking the cute pixel art and when i saw the puzzle platform fall a little in 1:40 i thought "oh boy is one of those puzzle games :D". Also the analog tv screen effect/filter (i dont know how is called that blurring from those screens) goes really well with the pixel art and makes the whole game look like how the old games look in my memories.
This is a cool little game that pays nice homage in its puzzles to classics like _Snake_ and _Arkanoid/Breakout!_ , and with the adventurous exploration of _Metroid_ and _Adventure_ , even has a "boss theme" that reminds me of _Space Invaders_ !
Haha, yeah I really like the equipment you get in the game. It's so playful! A frisbee, a yo-yo, a spinning top, a bubble blower, etc. My favorite is the slinky though, I love watching it slink down the stairs!
Nice graphics / aesthetics. Nostalgic with the Bubble Bobble parts & Snake eating fruit while avoiding its own tail game part or what ever plus yoyo , slinky toys...really great visuals....is there an actual story though? 😅😂 Nice egg collection.
Dang dude, this must have been a lot of work. Even with a guide, just keeping track of everything must have been a hassle. Hope you didn't get sensory deprivation from all the neon colors lol!
this rapidly went from "scary monster" to obnoxious lmfao its really cool dont get me wrong, but the sound effects probs get annoying after a while. especially if you get stuck or suck at platformers.
I've heard so much good news about this, like people calling it the 'best thing to happen with metroidvanias' or something. I don't particularly care for the insane praise, but if the gameplay is great, then that's enough for me.
I really loved the gameplay and game design. It's the sort of game that rewards experimentation and always has something cool to discover hidden in plain sight. People are always going to throw shade at games that become popular, and maybe this genre isn't for everyone, but if you like puzzle-based metroidvanias then it is a very good one of those! :)
To save time certain parts of the game are condensed in this video (finding the eggs, backtracking, puzzle solving, failed attempts, etc). A full first time playthrough to reach the true ending probably takes over 10 hours.
Everyone, review it in a stupid voice, show only the bugs and pretend its buggiert than it is, end with a narcissistic compilation of skill, mock indie development as a whole, then link it to Dunkey for ultimate karma. Just the way he reviewed e.g. Yooka Laylee.
Hi! This is a condensed playthough, it doesn't show all the egg locations, trims out any backtracking, edits out failed attempts at puzzles, edits out the time spent searching for hidden objects, and so on. It's possible to speedrun the first ending in under an hour, but in reality, a first playthrough of the game would be much longer than 2 hours (I played it for well over 10)
This game is extremely complex in terms of the layers of secrets hidden inside of it. You can finish the basic "storyline" in a few hours but it's EXTREMELY difficult to 100% it. There are beta testers who spent over 100 hours trying to find everything.
This game looks kinda cool but after watching a bit of this and reading Jauwn’s steam review I can confidently say this game is overpriced as all hell especially when compared to the competition and the lack of keybinding in the current year is insane Hope dunkey and the dev learns from this because rn this looks mediocre at best for a price I can get far better
Hi! It sounds like it's just not your kind of game, which is totally fine. I don't know who Jauwn is, but the steam reviews are overwhelmingly positive and it takes 10+ hours to complete. If you do like this style of game then I'd say it's pretty good value for money, but if you don't like this style of game then that's cool too, maybe wait and pick it up in a sale or something. There are plenty of other games out there! :)
A request for you guys: list every element you think makes a good/great platformer. Anything that comes to your mind. I'd love to use the input if I ever get to design games. Any ideas @AlphaBetaGamer?
Hmmm, if it's just platforming (and not metroidvania/action/puzzle elements) then I'd just have to go back to what made the original 2D Mario games so great. Precise controls, vibrant visuals, catchy music, challenging level design and plenty of secrets to discover. Some more modern things I like are cool set-pieces, massive bosses and beautifully animated visuals.
Probably unpopular opinion but for me what makes a good platform game depends on how hard it is....imo , most platformers are too difficult. Even the beloved Mario games can be a pain some times but I consider Mario games easier than others. I love a lot of platformers for their visuals & stories / certain ideas but hate that they're platformers , PF is my least fave type of game play. I wish more platformers weren't platformers but actually rpg / adventure fantasy with very l i t t l e to no platforming if possible - ( or at least , please do not make things so far away from each other / don't make the platforming part too hard & unforgiving )

That explains why the video appeared in my feed then disappeared hours later.
I wonder if the giant clock is of any use in the end

Whats crazy is Billy also made the game engine himself, what a chad
the smoke effects are crazy realisitic - the artstyle overall is awesome.
Yeah it's a very cool effect, makes them seem more ghostly and sinister. Not really something I've seen in a pixel art game before.
I honestly saw the previews for this and thought to myself "This looks interesting, but is it really worth my time?". I can confirm this is 100% worth it and not only that, the dev respects your time as a gamer.
The most refreshing metroidvania I've played since Hollow Knight. The puzzles and secrets are next level brilliant. One of a kind in every aspects.
Try rain world if you like this

Ostrich
1:12:43 the meowing here makes me feel so sad :c
Fear not! You can rescue those poor kitties! :)

That's the cat that comes out in the movie of House (1977)!
I thought the same thing!

Seeing you jump on the disc after you threw it and seeing yourself spin around as you fly is so funny.

Truly the best day for Halo 2 and Halo 3 fans!

12:06 Quick! Eat the weakened ghost! You're unstoppable as the powerpilled Pacman!

It's My Neighbour Totoro's neighbor. :)
@@AlphaBetaGamer His name is My Neighbour Rotoro. He's evil and has a rotary Gatling cannon.
It somehow reminds me of Rain World
Rain World is probably the first Well-type game
Nice graphics / aesthetics. Nostalgic with the Bubble Bobble parts & Snake eating fruit while avoiding its own tail game part or what ever plus yoyo , slinky toys...really great visuals....is there an actual story though? 😅😂 Nice egg collection.
Yeah, I'm not too sure what the story is either! Maybe the manticore creature was corrupting the world because someone had locked away its egg/child?
Reminds me so much of Knytt Stories
Little Blobbert goes on an adventure to animal
Dang dude, this must have been a lot of work. Even with a guide, just keeping track of everything must have been a hassle. Hope you didn't get sensory deprivation from all the neon colors lol!
This is one of the BEST games ever created to this day..
Very beautiful.
Thankful you covered this, looks great
I just knew this masterpiece thanks for getting over it guy
This is such a beautiful game...
the game never ends!
1:27:37 I think the UV-lantern-light might make the skull-staircase intangible, like it does to the bird later on.
When I heard the name Animal Well, that was so not what I was expecting.
This made me think of Knytt Stories, but with a Rain World art style.
1:56:00 kinda strange how it lets you control the evil cat
This reminds me of Knytt Stories but also of Prince of Persia. Amazing aesthetics.
The cat reminds me of House (1977)
Will you update the BDTP puzzle part and SOMETHING after that?
well well well
Now this is Good Indie Shit.
This gives me rain world vibes and i love it
It's like Halo 2 and Halo 3 had a baby!
Reminds me of Rainworld. Someone mix these two games together.
So does anyone know the plot of the game? I watched through it all and I'm pretty confused.
Oh damn, I'm not sure either! Maybe the manticore creature was corrupting the world because someone had locked away its egg/child?
Animal Well? Yeah I sure hope they do
Damn it why does everyone call it a cat when its obviously a dog chasing a frisbee
1:07:14 time to doze off
Is this game available on Switch? If so, I will definitely buy it. 🤗
Ooo, guess I'll skip ahead to the new section of the video!
If Animal Well is so good, where’s the sequel Animals Wells?
This game looks like a combination of Halo 2 and Halo 3.
😆😆🤣👏👏👏
FYI, that ghost is a dog, not a cat.
this rapidly went from "scary monster" to obnoxious lmfao
its really cool dont get me wrong, but the sound effects probs get annoying after a while. especially if you get stuck or suck at platformers.
It's a dog not a cat. What kind of cat chases a disc and pants with its tongue out?

I heard this game got halo and halo 2 combined
You know it knda reminds me of halo 2 and 3
Wait it's 22 dollars for only 2 hours Don't know If I can pay that.

All this hype for a 2 hour game, kids really will buy anything popular lol
A games quality only being measured by providing tens or hundreds of hours of gameplay seems silly

Took me around 12 hours blind and gave up to search the wheel, ball and a few eggs.
But hey, you do you.
