Modern lampposts are designed to collapse on impact specifically to reduce the lethality of colliding with them. Trees, on the other hand, are like outer space: completely indifferent to human life.
Jane is right, actually. Passengers did have blankets for the cold weather. Even if my car is old as me ('98 Subaru Impreza) I have not one but TWO blankets for passengers, a green one and a purple one.
I have blankets in my car, too. But, I remember this mostly from living in Alaska where it was recommended to have a blanket in your car in case your car got stuck in the snow in the middle of nowhere.
Yeah, car blankets are for when you are at risk of hypothermia in the car, either due to extreme weather or simply not having a car heater. When I was a kid we had a station wagon that we'd often have 6 or more people riding in it. This vehicle did not have a heater and got very cold in the winter.
apparently i just hadn't put much active thought into it but i did not realise until this video that mike's xbox live account photo is not garfield with a shotgun, but is in fact one of the titular worms from the worms games. i do not know why i did not question the image of a heavily armed, lasagna-loving cat earlier.
If red dead redemption 3 gets made and Is set in 1930s America, upgrading your car to a bootlegging car could be part of the story. I wonder if that would get Andy into cars?
Why didnt you just mention the Mafia series 1. It makes more sense because you cant have a middle aged Jack Marston cowboy running money laundering scemes 2. Its all owned by Take-Two Enternainment anyway
I was just gonna comment on this, it wasn’t the trees, there was a rock wall in front of him that was unbreakable, he kept slamming into it over and over, and saying the trees were the problem. He knocked over all the trees, and they were moving as he reversed into them too. Unless I misunderstood what he said
As someone who recently passed their driving test, Mike's driving in this game is both awesome and terrifying - remind me not to go on the motorway at the same time as him...
Caitlin RC see i'm still having lessons, and i feel like this is going to encourage terrifying habits and possibly lead to a high octane test in a few weeks
Congrats on passing your driving test. The thing to remember is, in a game you can do stuff you really want to do in real life, but will get into trouble for. GTA Online is great for this.
As somebody who passed his driving test about 20 years ago, I'd probably find both of you drive in a way that terrifies me. AAAHHH! WHY ARE YOU DRIVING ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ROAD!?!
Actually, Jane is spot on, about car blankets. They were used by passengers in Model A, Model T, the Stutz Bearcat, really old cars that didn't have heaters. Or, often, and enclosed interior. My dad's first car was a Model T, and it was a cold ride in winter.
It's so weird how excited you get by seeing places you recognise in games or films etc. Edinburgh looks really good, although it's missing the millions of people walking slowly along Princes Street.
Jane - I know what a car blanket is! We used them here in the US when I was a kid, at least my family did. It was definitely a real thing, and even to this day my mom insists we put a blanket in the trunk 'just in case'. - we didn't have an open car or anything though, we had a crappy old van and then a crappy giant (and old) buick that looked like a box >.> both were quite chilly in winter. I don't think my parents ever used it up front, but for us kids in the back? Heck yeah. BLANKET ME.
One of the first things I put into my first car when I bought it (two years ago). Not for when I drive (that would be dangerous) or for my passengers (who cares about them?), but in case it ever breaks down in winter and I have to wait hours for road-side assistance without heating. Or potentially to give it to someone else who is suffering that fate. Maybe that's what your Mom meant with "just in case". I also have plenty of water bottles, not only for topping up the windshield tank but in case the car breaks down, in the summer this time. I may be a bit over-cautious ;) There's also a change of clothes... Fire extinguisher... Squash racket... You never know!
Reading this one year later, during lockdown due to the pandemic... How is that going for you? I just made it through the tutorial missions in Hitman: No Subtitle just to spend half an hour on the "beach" in Sapienza :D (I got that episode as a free deal on Steam a coupe years ago...)
2:50 guys remember that lamp posts are suppose to break under very little stress, it’s to prevent the death of those that hit them, as trees do not have that feature.
I would like to take a moment to Thank and Respect Andy, Jane, Mike, Ellen and Luke for always bringing me Joy and and Laughter!!! and for being true Friends!!!!!!! though I haven't met them! ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ ♡♡♡
Jane, when I was a kid and my family took vacations to see relatives seven hours away, my siblings & I all brought blankets because my dad liked the A/C on high... so I'm with you on the car blankets thing. Although, it's definitely a good idea to have some in the back in case you get stranded in winter, along with water bottles, snacks, & a first aid kit. Also, it would be HILARIOUS if at some point in Red Dead Redemption 2, Arthur Morgan returns to his horse to see that some girl/woman has braided its mane! Now I really hope this happens, however unlikely.
I think this is my new favourite oxbox video because of all the cosy vibes: car blankets, hot chocolate, Harry Potter...I could just wrap myself in it on a cold winter's evening!
The Rock (that the castle is on) isn't volcanic but rather is deposit from when the glaciers retreated after the last ice age (February!!). Arthur's Seat is an extinct volcano. :) If you guys are ever up this way I will happily buy you a dram or two.
My favourite part of Forza Horizon 4 is how it perfectly showcases an idelic version of England including all the congested traffic and road works, while accurately depicting the four seasons: a little bit of rain, medium rain, heavy rain and way to much rain
I am so American that when Mike jumped the train, I was thinking more of the General Lee playing Dixie and the Duke brothers shouting "Yeeeeeee-haaahhhh!"
I have been racing Farrantula, Mighty Seven, and MissDeeds for the past week, and man do they give me a run for my money! Not enough to actually lose to them, but still, you know, always a solid effort from those guys.
Jane. Originally, car blankets were essentially to snuff out engine fires. Fighting the cold was just secondary. It's still a good move today. Just in case.
This has made me want to take a trip to Edinburgh with the OxBox crew. Andy would be the navigator for a cocktail bar crawl, Mike would be the designated driver, and Jane would sleep in the car.
Jane, I also have a car blanket (its a throw blanket actually). Its for emergencies, but I do indeed drive with it on my lap sometimes. You just fold it so it doesn't touch the floor.
I hate it because Andy's Drivatar is in my game and he constantly beats me and I have to restart the race. Farrantula is the bane of my racing enjoyment.
Back in the day, it was common to carry a blanket in an open top car for the purpose of warmth. Much like would have been done with sleighs or carriages and wagons. A woolen tartan actually is an oft depicted type.
I've had car blankets! But that car was a Landrover without full air tightness. Off roading and stuff, muddy seats and blankets for the grumpy child passenger who didn't wear enough layers XD
I'd love a video with a tour of england in Forza, where Mike gives car anecdotes about the car, and Andy gives historical anecdotes about the scenery...
Lampposts are designed to tear away in the event of a collision, whereas trees, having roots, tend to be more immovable and therefore more catastrophically damaging.
Andy: "It's an important lesson for the child: anything you build will be destroyed by powerful supercars." I betting Aristotle probably said that at some point.
2 minutes in Andy "can you drive on to that lake, is it frozen?" Mike drives on to lake, car sinks below surface Me "the insurance company is never going to believe this"
i remember car blankets in scotland they were always red tartan and kept below the rear window and this was before the seat belt law (showing my age ) lol
Andy, I always carry a blanket in my car for those long drives when I go to visit friends in another state- it gets cold in the winter and I have no desire to waste gas at a rest stop keeping the motor running. And here I thought you being older than Jane you would have heard about this. Seriously, Jane is still a child and she knows this...
So when Andy said "I've never been in a car with you for more than 10 minutes without you falling asleep." My brain decided to run with it, and I now I have a mental picture of Jane snoring in a car immediately on the highway on-ramp, going from peaceful, to snoring to yelling about how we have to stop because she's both thirsty and has to pee. I think it incorporated that one time during red dead that she insisted she was the worst on road trips and hiking.
Modern lampposts are designed to collapse on impact specifically to reduce the lethality of colliding with them. Trees, on the other hand, are like outer space: completely indifferent to human life.
Hey! It's Mike's best friend.
i guess Im kinda randomly asking but does anybody know of a good place to stream new tv shows online?
@Seth Archie I use FlixZone. You can find it on google =)
Jane is right, actually. Passengers did have blankets for the cold weather. Even if my car is old as me ('98 Subaru Impreza) I have not one but TWO blankets for passengers, a green one and a purple one.
Very on brand of you. :)
Love Andy and Jane's application of the "little grey cells" to solve the case of the indestructible tree and the toppling lamp post.
Actually read "little grey cells" like how Poirot says
When are we getting OX branded car blankets? I demand merch!
Not OX car blankets. Jane blankets!
I don't like driving or driving games, but you guys' driving videos are consistently some of your funniest videos.
Mike thought he knew everything about cars until Jane schooled him on... car blankets...
Mike seems confused about the train going fast and reaching it's destination. Unlike when he drives it. 😉
In fairness, he didn't spend much of that video actually driving.
apparently i just hadn't put much active thought into it but i did not realise until this video that mike's xbox live account photo is not garfield with a shotgun, but is in fact one of the titular worms from the worms games. i do not know why i did not question the image of a heavily armed, lasagna-loving cat earlier.
because Mike...
If red dead redemption 3 gets made and Is set in 1930s America, upgrading your car to a bootlegging car could be part of the story. I wonder if that would get Andy into cars?
And then they could name their new vehicle Carson
I wonder if you can get a roll cage for your horse in Red Dead Online...
Why didnt you just mention the Mafia series 1. It makes more sense because you cant have a middle aged Jack Marston cowboy running money laundering scemes 2. Its all owned by Take-Two Enternainment anyway
2:36 I guess they forgot video game law #16
Random trees are immortal even if other trees in the same game are not.
I was just gonna comment on this, it wasn’t the trees, there was a rock wall in front of him that was unbreakable, he kept slamming into it over and over, and saying the trees were the problem. He knocked over all the trees, and they were moving as he reversed into them too. Unless I misunderstood what he said
"flip off all the gryffindors" lol Andy you're the best.
"yaaaas henny" aren't words i was expecting to hear from andy, didn't realise how empty my life was before then
I've been hearing a lot of yaaas this and yaaas that on oxbox and oxtra lately. Do you think they are binging rpd behind the scenes in secret ??
it's drag slang for "yes honey/hunny/all alternative spellings of bee juices"! with a southern twist? i think
and yes i hope that it means they've been watching drag race and some queer eye as well, because those are good life choices
I want to go on Andy's cocktail bar world tour
Yup. There's definitely a market for that. Cocktails and dinner interesting history.
I guess the train driver didn't lock themselves outside the engine.
12:30 missed a poll for best use of spiders here, guys:
-eating flies
-Halloween decoration
-scaring Ellen
-fighting crime
This is the one Xbox exclusive I'm honestly sad about missing out on, the British scenery looks awesome.
It is also on the PC
As someone who recently passed their driving test, Mike's driving in this game is both awesome and terrifying - remind me not to go on the motorway at the same time as him...
Caitlin RC see i'm still having lessons, and i feel like this is going to encourage terrifying habits and possibly lead to a high octane test in a few weeks
Hearty congratulations, Caitlin, now off to buy a car blanket, I presume. :)
Especially when you know he _failed_ his first test (congrats on the driving test though)
Congrats on passing your driving test. The thing to remember is, in a game you can do stuff you really want to do in real life, but will get into trouble for.
GTA Online is great for this.

It's amazing what the community does with the creator. Almost all of My favourite aussie racecars have been re created for me by the community.
This game is so beautiful, as an introvert I feel I could just drive around in this all day and never go outside ever again.
Reading this one year later, during lockdown due to the pandemic... How is that going for you?
I just made it through the tutorial missions in Hitman: No Subtitle just to spend half an hour on the "beach" in Sapienza :D (I got that episode as a free deal on Steam a coupe years ago...)
Something tells me Mike shouln't play this game right before driving home from the studio...
2:50 guys remember that lamp posts are suppose to break under very little stress, it’s to prevent the death of those that hit them, as trees do not have that feature.
Btw, yes, car blankets ARE a thing! Or at least I know them as well... I GOT YOUR BACK JANE :p
Every girl I know has a car blanket. Zero guys I know have one.
Za'chary Westbrook I have one, but I keep it in my truck for my wife to use, not me.
“It would be amazing if there were active volcanos in Scotland.” Mike
Not for me it wouldn’t cause then I’d be dead
I would like to take a moment to Thank and Respect Andy, Jane, Mike, Ellen and Luke for always bringing me Joy and and Laughter!!! and for being true Friends!!!!!!! though I haven't met them! ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ ♡♡♡
Mike buying Andy a Red Dead 2 car is the sweetest thing😂
is Andy now sponsored by Scottish Cocktail bars?
I did notice his navigation around Edinburgh was cocktail bar based... :)
Kind of the other way around, Andy is sponsoring several Scottish Cocktail bars.
Mike appears to be channelling Austin Powers with that 18 point turn betwen the trees and the stone wall

I had a car blanket when I was a kid in the 90's, they're real! Btw Jane's idea sound's awesome!
'At the roundabout, take the second exit...' is code for "Floor it and aim for the low foliage-- those are the trees that will snap over!"
Mike dies at 1:37. Rest is just an afterdeath dream.
I think this is my new favourite oxbox video because of all the cosy vibes: car blankets, hot chocolate, Harry Potter...I could just wrap myself in it on a cold winter's evening!
Unrelatedly, I'm glad that Andy's trepidation about Arthur Morgan turned out to be unfounded
The title of this video has just triggered every train nerd ever including me
Don’t worry Jane, I know about car blankets. They’re quite popular in the northern US. My mom always has one in her car.
The Rock (that the castle is on) isn't volcanic but rather is deposit from when the glaciers retreated after the last ice age (February!!). Arthur's Seat is an extinct volcano. :) If you guys are ever up this way I will happily buy you a dram or two.
Impressive knowledge of Edinburgh monuments. Even as a local the only reason I know most of them is if they're gyms in Pokemon Go...
As a car and video game enthusiast, this stream is really all I ever wanted.
My mum's from Dundee. I showed her this game, took a tour of the north end of the map in the Aston Zagato. It literally made her homesick!
Mike:"they probably froze to death back there"
Me:waiting for jane to say"THATS WHY YOU NEED A CAR BLANKET"
Also me:didnt hear it. Gonna cry now
My favourite part of Forza Horizon 4 is how it perfectly showcases an idelic version of England including all the congested traffic and road works, while accurately depicting the four seasons: a little bit of rain, medium rain, heavy rain and way to much rain
Hearing that Jane falls asleep in the car all the time I have in my head Jane falling asleep in the sun curled up like a cat, the same with Ellen lol
With all the Harry Potter references can't wait for the rumoured RPG and outsidexbox play it.. also Forza Horizon 4 is a great game.
Rumoured rpg?
Yeah just google, Harry Potter RPG and you will get a lot of articles about it
After the Flying Scottsman the next logical step is a race againts the Flying Dutchman... Or atleast the Kraken
This is the most British video on UA-cam
I am so American that when Mike jumped the train, I was thinking more of the General Lee playing Dixie and the Duke brothers shouting "Yeeeeeee-haaahhhh!"
Andy is so funny! Near accurate impersonation "I'm a whaaaaat?!"
If anyone needs to know what to get Andy for Christmas, I would say based off his reaction that a navy sweater is a safe bet.
As someone who very much is Scottish, seeing Edinburgh in a game is SURREAL.
I can confirm that car blankets exist. I have one in my car and once I had to sleep in the car and put it to good use. You're not crazy, Jane.
Never thought I'd see Edinburgh with so little traffic, even when I get out of late night cinema at 3am there's way more traffic than that.
THE NAME OF THE TRAIN IS LITERALLY ON THE FRONT AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
It says "Hogwarts Express" on the front. You can see it on the cover of Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone
No, it's the Flying Scotsman
Why does the race end in Hogsmeade then?
This is how Mike finally reached Hogwarts, they used a car to trick him into becoming a wizard coz he would have never just taken the train.
Andy is the guy IN THE KNOW when it comes to cocktail bars, wow.
Seeing Mike just drive straight through that roundabout made watching this video so worth the time. I hate roundabouts!
I love Mike because he loves racing games and Hitman just like me. ❤️
I have been racing Farrantula, Mighty Seven, and MissDeeds for the past week, and man do they give me a run for my money! Not enough to actually lose to them, but still, you know, always a solid effort from those guys.
Not even 2 minutes in before it's "RIP Mike."
To paraphrase Socrates: "Oof."
Love how Andy casually reveals jane's carcolapsy issue |-D
I miss Edinburgh... probably my favorite City :) Go Edinbrah
Finally ! A game where Scotland gets a bit of recognition :)
That trunk on the back of that car is why Americans now call the back of cars trunks
Watch those turns, guys. Not all tires grip in the wet.
Good local knowledge for three folks who are neither stand-up comedians or from here.Good on you
Jane is correct with the carblanket thing... I drive around Europe for work and I always have one in winter
As a fully paid up edinburger, Andy’s knowledge of Edinburgh is not half bad!
I've had car blankets! But that car was a Landrover without full air tightness. Off roading and stuff, muddy seats and blankets for the grumpy child passenger who didn't wear enough layers XD
It's so weird seeing your home town in a game
I can confirm that it is possible to drive with gloves. I keep a pair of wool mittens in my car for when it gets cold
This is the first time I've ever been tempted to play a racing game, looks so fun! And I really want to go back to Edinburgh
I would like to agree with Jane, I have a blanket in my car, just in case it gets chilly ☺️
I'd love a video with a tour of england in Forza, where Mike gives car anecdotes about the car, and Andy gives historical anecdotes about the scenery...
What I learned today: Andy is knowledgeable in both cars and cocktail bars.
Been playing this for ages now and enjoying every minute of it! Finally bought the castle!!!
Lampposts are designed to tear away in the event of a collision, whereas trees, having roots, tend to be more immovable and therefore more catastrophically damaging.
"Andy's Cocktail Bar Tour 2019" is bound to be a winner in the next Forza expansion.
To be a true travel blanket, it not only needs to be tartan, but the same tartan pattern as your thermos flask.
Andy: "Oh, It's Arthur Morgan. Don't know if I like him yet"
*Smash cut to*
Any interaction with Andy about RDR2 ever
Jane, this is a game mike really enjoys so of course there would be explosions and implosions in some form in it.
Andy: "It's an important lesson for the child: anything you build will be destroyed by powerful supercars." I betting Aristotle probably said that at some point.
Mike: "...When your horse brakes too hard"
Has someone got tell Mike not everything's a car?
Drive up Arthur,s seat😁
A good question to ask Jane is, if someone is bitten by a Centaur do they become a Were-Centaur lol
2 minutes in
Andy "can you drive on to that lake, is it frozen?"
Mike drives on to lake, car sinks below surface
Me "the insurance company is never going to believe this"
Flying Scotsman > Hogwarts Express
Klumsy Kameleon so there’s more than one of you?
Mallard > flying scotsman
I prefer the flying dutchman lol
Soaring Canadianman
lloydi Mallard > Everything
Edinburgh looks so accurate! That's amazing! I was also very impressed by all your knowledge of the city.
Without a doubt the most English video you guys have ever made
i remember car blankets in scotland they were always red tartan and kept below the rear window and this was before the seat belt law (showing my age ) lol
"name a car" Jane names literal named cars like Christine and Herbie XD
Thank goodness Mike isn't driving the Hogwarts Express...cause we all remember what happened last time he tried to drive a train... xD
Good job this game didn't let him out of the train.
