Thanks for this sound advice. It work overnight and saved our flock! I suspect hidden moldy food? The boss and biggest hen had ate around most of it keeping the others away, but the all had a case if upper respiratory disease. After 24 hrs she became worse with this terrible congestion sound the flock tried to fight to the death to get rid of her. They have had slight cases of this before but recovered on thier own. no matter warm or cold weather or conditions. This case was more severe. we went into the hen house at night when birds are asleep to easily administer the RX. Discovery this moldy food, cleaning it out in the pen area was part of the problem thinking they won't eat it...but they ate around it a mold spores travel well. Thourorly removing the top dirt out of pen and put more dimetacious down. Hen house, nest boxes. pen and food got sprinkled with the RX extra and dose of vitamins A sunny day to range free while I cleaned the pen. And I have to also say be sensible hen keepers there is too much bad advice on the internet. Go to the Vet if you have too!
So glad she is feeling better and that you found a natural remedy. Will remember to pick up some VerTex and take a look at the label next time I visit the feed store.
try herbal ingredients for sick chiken. it works great and no chemicals : 1. one slice of garlic, ginger, 1/2 tsp of turmeric. 2. Juz put all of them in water n boil it for 45 mnt, n let it cool. 3. replace the water in ur chicken coop with herbal water. 4. do it everyday ntill the chicken healthy. usually a week. ur chicken can drink it anytime she wants. in case she's too sick n not drink anymore u have to force it. i rarely use antibitoc for my chicken unless if I have really no option left. worth to try! may god bless ur family n ur chickens farm :)

Hey just wanted to share something. Not sure if you do this but I put a drop of oregano oil in our chickens water (it works as a natural antibiotic) Our girls are super healthy. We actually use oil of oregano when we get sick & it seems to work wonders!
The main ingredient in VetRx is oregano oil! :) if you read the ingredient label it says "origanum" oil - which is oregano oil. This VetRx also uses Rosemary oil. I guess the camphor is used to provide a 'smell' that's cohesive to breathing? Like Vicks Vap-o-Rub.
We got the Vet RX today. The hen started making that strange noise yesterday. Not one has made this noise since we got back with the med! What's up with that!
Help please! My chicken is has respiratory and I used this Vetrx ! ( on her nostril, tongue, wattle, comb, under the wings, on her neck and on the feet ) but I don’t know if I see anything starting to get better! She can still walk but day by day I think she is worse!!! She still has a raspy voice with gurgling and her eyes are half closed a bit… please give tips, I give her garlic paste, cucumber, lettuce and a bit of chilli powder as well.
Thank you for sharing! But how do you open your chicken's beak, without her biting? And can I add the remedy to the drinking water? Is it okay to keep this chiken with the flock, as they share water?
Can you show me where it's written that you cannot label eggs organic if they were given antibiotics once? I know they cannot be labeled "No antibiotics ever" or "raised without antibiotics" but organic standards do not stipulate that you can't treat sick hens, do they? I can't find this info anywhere.
The respiratory issue, from what I was told by an expert, is actually present in all the birds, but when they get stressed it can affect them. The VetRx seems to work fairly well as several game bird people have suggested it to me. I was told to use the powdered antibiotic by soaking their food in it to make sure the others did not get infected or so that the sick birds would not get a secondary infection. I think the issue is that it is actually a virus, so the antibiotic won't prevent it, just secondary infections.
Great info, much appreciated. Glad there r options. Anyone know if it's available in Canada? Due to covid we can't go to the US to pick up products any longer. Thx again.
Antibiotics are always last choice, but if my animal is getting worse/dying, I will use antibiotics. Natural is preferred. Tetracycline will cure respiratory diseases, if administered correctly. It can be used with layer hens; you just have to separate them and toss their eggs for 20 days. All that said, I'm glad you found a natural cure.
Brandon & MeredithWhich way did you use the VetRX ? It says it can be, but doesn't have to be diluted? Did you add it to the water also? did you put it under the wing or orally? Lots of different instructions on paper and your paper is 2014 the 2016 is different..... my hen is doing this too .

The women at Tractor Supply Company gave VetRX to me. two days later she is alert, eating, and drinking! I tried to vaporize it but my diffuser choose the worst time possibly to stop working correctly. I recommend it greatly. If you've lost one, I'd clean any surface that chicken had contact with (change all their food out, its bad. clean this water. brush out their coop and replace their bedding, it could serve as a way of spreading it. I cannot stress this enough- ISOLATE ANY CHICKENS SHOWING SYMPTOMS RIGHT AWAY.

While I can appreciate your desire to have good quality, antibiotic free eggs, you also need to have compassion for the chicken who is sick and give them what they may need in a time of crisis. There are different ways to use it. You can mix it in a spray bottle and spray it over the flock. You can take a drop or two and put it under their wings. You can do the vaporizer. You can put a drop on the roof of your chickens mouth, put it in their drinking water, and even sprinkle a few drops in their bedding. I’m pretty sure you can look up the directions online. Of course they felt better after using this- they could breathe! Much like using Vicks for a toddler, VetRx helps cut through the mucous to ease respiratory effort so the chicken can actually rest and not fight for air. You were told to treat the whole flock because respiratory diseases are notoriously fast spreading diseases. 🙄
This is some great information, but there was no need to present it so rudely
Don't use that use filling filling are the pills pound sign are the pills
Wth did u just say?
What did you show? Nothing! Not even how you applied it to the chicken or even the chicken's state after. This is just an ad!

I dont recomend that vetrx. It does not come with good instructions. Very confusing
Just like vicks but for chickens.
You never showed how to use Vet RX or even said what it is! gee whiz
show the process of application of Vatrx
There are different ways to use it. You can mix it in a spray bottle and spray it over the flock. You can take a drop or two and put it under their wings. You can do the vaporizer. You can put a drop on the roof of your chickens mouth, put it in their drinking water, and even sprinkle a few drops in their bedding. I’m pretty sure you can look up the directions online. It’s different for different chicks. Like if it’s a show chicken a breeder, etc. just make sure to read the directions. It’s very simple and the vetrx has to be warm/room temperature.
