Nah, these are super cool. At least they're not boring and samey like 99% of mainline Magic art is these days. Thought Vessel and Command Tower especially remind me of the classic old Magic art style, as do the head basics.

@@BensonMTG I was actually just a fifth grader when the set came out and I got a booster pack and a starter deck for my birthday. I was a dumb child at that point who didn't know the game. Times have changed and I wanted to build a deck that's an homage to where I began. Nice video! Hope you were able to get any drops you wanted.

i think they're cool if you can find a deck that can carry the "goofy art". Im putting all em trashy art into my Oskar, Rubbish Reclaimer cedh deck. Your trash is my treasure. The borders and art style remind me of 90s MTV and old-school MTG. Sol Ring reminds me of "Claws of Gix" which used actual photo of the artist's sculpture.
The core set is an absolute get for me, the art is awesome imo. It gives me un-set vibes. Doubt I’ll get the creatures, but I’m unsure about the lands. I really enjoy them but I think if we had a choice between the two styles, with like 5-10 each like you said, in their own packs I would be more inclined
The island has a charm to it, the little critter pictured reminds me of long time MTG artist Foglio. And thanks for the civil, thoughtful comment and opinion.
The tattoo cards reek of proxies I’m not a fan of just a human arm with a tattoo of MTG references being called card art, besides that I like everything else!

They remind me of one of my favorite games, Cruelty Squad which also has that kind of “putrid 90’s aesthetic.” I realize I’m in the minority for liking this, but man if I don’t love it and it will be the second secret lair I’ve ever bought and I plan on getting all 3

Tbh they must be old and very out of touch by now then because if they were actually ‘tapped in’ then they would’ve been aware of a collective that already has had previous magic collabs (this isn’t the first btw). I get the appeal of alt art special lands, I wouldn’t mind some of the prior Godzilla SL lands but end of the day…it’s a basic land. The tattoo art is lazy, imo.
@@BensonMTG the lonely secret lair lands I’ve ever got were the Godzilla they are pretty nice but I’ll probably never get any more but the bob Ross lands but I like I said 5 lands for 30+ dollars is the dumbest thing I can buy half a commander deck with that

@@BensonMTG let me be sincere then, I think this drop is cool, its fine if you think otherwise but I feel that the way you criticized/mocked the drop was very arrogant, as if you were somehow above this drop and anyone who could like it, I think having some cards be a real tattoo of the original art of the card is objectively unique and subjectively awesome and disregarding it because "uhmm.. how would you wear a picture?? so dumb" is silly. you just seemed to be overly nitpicky and cynical in your "criticism" and generally opposed to anything fun, I thought repeating your arguments along with the nerd emoji would make you reflect and realize how you were coming across, It's fine to dislike something someone else likes but trying to make other people feel stupid for liking something is lame, that was at least my impression of you not only from the video but from the way you responded to other positive comments about the drop. Meteor golem is included most likely because of how well it works with kiki. Every card is good for a kiki deck but the sphinx

Some of the lands are passable, but not paying 20-30 bux for basics. I’d pay that much for a few alpha or beta basics, that’s about it.
