One thing this game does that I hope every single open world/GTA-like games do in the future is the virtual sign posts that show up at every street corner. In these kind of games, I usually just stare at the mini map and don't look at the environment enough. Those little sign posts telling me when to turn were a god send.
This review does a great job of articulating why the game is great - mechanics are nothing new, but they’re implemented functionally, in really entertaining situations.
Just finished this today. Was nice and short. Had some faults but once you’re in it you’re in it. Might be the last Mafia/Mob game for a long time so everyone should enjoy it while they can. I haven’t heard of any other game coming out in this era. Now a Godfather remaster or remake would be something too.
I just finished it yesterday. It was really an amazing game in my opinion, despite of how short it was and some technical issues I was having on PC. I haven't played any other Mafia game besides the Mafia 2 Demo on the PS3, so I was pretty shocked to say the least by the end of it lol. I was not expecting that.
Thought I heard a while back that they were thinking about making one set in the equivalent of Las Vegas, like how they set Mafia III in the equivalent of New Orleans
Just bought the Mafia Trilogy on Xbox One this week. Very interested to play this game. Also very happy to see all three games come on their respective discs. 😁
I still remember having so incredibly much fun with Mafia 2, i immediately wanted to play 1 afterwards - was disappointed back then when i tried it. Then Mafia 3 was announced and i was once again, really disappointed. So will this be for me?
I wasn't aware that the big race was such a infamous mission... I had WAY more trouble with the mission before it where you have to drive the opponent's racecar over to the mechanic to bust up the engine... The race I got on my second or third try 😅
Easy Allies consists of pure, objective gamers loving gaming and then, after that, paid people who do reviews and what not. That's why Easy Allies is > IGN + Gamespot combined! Keep up a great work guys!
BTW the game just had a HUD customizability update and now you can remove that stupid yellow diamond that ruins the whole immersion for some! You can also turn the HUD completely off or remove gps routes etc.
They are. And sadly (or not depending on your opinion) Its a direct sequel to Mafia 3. (Which I personally hated in terms of a Mafia story. I want to be in the Mafia, not take one down.)
Is it really remade from the ground up when the developer reuses gameplay, animations and the same driving mechanics as in their last title Mafia 3. I started playing yesterday and ran into 2 pretty significant glitches, one where all audio besides dialogue wasn't working while driving and another where I got stuck in a lock pick animation.
Well its a remake of an old game which by today's standards simply feels quite barebones. The story is entertaining enough though to make for at least one enjoyable playthrough.
@@DiamondDead Which is why I feel like remakes should strive for more than just remaking visuals. It's like making a shot for shot remake of a movie. We have that game already. If you're going to remake the game, remake it from the ground up like FFVII or RE2.
This review is a little more positive than my personal experience. I would say watch gameplay for it. This game is really barebones and could potentially be a disappointing buy
@@e1iteyoshi998 I agree with Jason117 just don't expect GTA or Saints Row level of craziness and you should be good. I actually finished GTA 5 right before I played this one (I know I'm late), so it was pretty hard to not compare but I definitely do think the strongest aspect of Mafia is definitely it's atmosphere. I felt pretty strongly immersed as Tommy, and I could empathize with his story about wanting to do the right thing but being stuck in the mob. For someone who's only played the Mafia 2 demo, I enjoyed it up until the very end. Was a good first experience for me. I'll probably buy Mafia 2 next at some point.
I'd give it 7/10. Good story but mediocre gameplay. Rent if you can or find it on a deep sale. Because once you beat it there is really nothing to do after. It is a linear game.

We didn't get early access on this one, and Huber was already working on Hades when it came out. Picked this one up after he was done. Plus, it just came out two weeks ago. It's not that late. -Bloodworth
I found the story interesting, but the gameplay to just be absolutely terrible. I think people would be better served watching an LP of it than playing it.
I beat it last week in like 12 hours. I remember playing the OG game when I was a kid on my computer, never going very far. I think I got stuck at that race. Anyways, this time around, I liked the game, but its visual presentation is extremely inconsistent. At times, this looks extremely good and at other, its pretty bad. Inconsistent is the word I'd use this describe this game. The gunplay mechanics are extremely simplistic,( only the death animations and bullet impact on bodies made saved it, in my opinion ) and the stealth-ish missions are plain terrible. The weapon wheel serves no purpose, as there is no difference to hitting someone with a knife, a baseball bat or your fists. And if you do a silent takedown, the weapon gets unequiped anyways. It's a fun game to experiment for the story (which is itself pretty average and jumps to its conclusion extremely fast, like in the OG game I guess) but gameplay-wise, it's barebones and feels very stiff. Even Mafia 3 had better gunplay and controls, for some reason. There's also frequent glitches and bugs ( those scenes where you talk to the agent in the restaurant ? one time the place had no walls or seats whatsoever). All in all, this is a faithful recreation of the OG game, warts and all. I wouldn't recommend it just to anyone though, you need to know what you're getting into.
Its not an open world game exactly, its a linear game with an open world more as a backdrop for the time period. That's why after every mission you begin the next one and there are no side missions. The original was this way.
Didn’t like this one as much. Felt the gameplay itself was developed with almost no care. The animations, the gunplay, the AI were all so lackluster. And I couldn’t really see the greatness of the story. It was good and engaging but it was nowhere near some of the great stories we have seen this gen. It felt so simple and lacking though the performances were good, there wasn’t any mind blowing character that could capture your attention completely. Overall an ok game for me, that I just wouldn’t have made time for at all, if it wasn’t about the mob. Perhaps with the simulation aspects and semi non-linear design of the original mafia, this could have been better
I never noticed anything about the animations or the AI, and I actually liked the gun play. I've had no issues with the gameplay. In regards to gunplay I actually found it pretty realistic that the crosshair is a circle, because Tommy is a cab driver and isn't meant to have perfect aim. I did still technically have some performance issues on PC though. It seems badly optimized, or maybe just a really demanding game. With that all said I still enjoyed it a lot but I agree, it probably wouldn't be as good if it wasn't about the mob. The story is pretty simple. But that's also kind of the whole point of the game though in my opinion, to be a simple believable story. Personally I kept comparing it to GTA 5 since I just finished it the day before (I know I'm late), but I also realized it's not really meant to be compared to games like those, because GTA 5 is more fictional than Mafia is. The characters of GTA are meant to be all wacky, so of course characters would be more interesting. While in Mafia everyone is usually always so serious. Anyway this is my first Mafia game (other than the Mafia 2 demo) so maybe I'm a bit biased, but I'm glad it came out because I would have likely skipped right to 2 if it had not been for this remake. I enjoyed it.

I really liked the music in this video, is all the music in Mafia that good?
yes, that's the most important thing to telling a story of high organized crime.

Plays a sequel of a game from 2011 then preceded to have high expectations for its predecessor from 2002, makes sense.
No, this game is just as bad. It's a broken mess with a poorly placed plot and bad combat.
