But no they were kicked out of their homes, had their bank accounts frozen, and given none of the profit of the unwanted sale of their property. This is the second time the Archdiocese of Los Angeles has abused the IHM Sisters. In the late 60's the Archdiocese took issue with the IHM's Vatican II renewal and tried to exert control over the Sisters even though they are a Pontifical Congregation. Then, over 300 IHM left to form a community not under the Archdiocese. Once again, the Archdiocese is overstepping the Sisters' canonical rights. Sad.

Their faith may not be rational but if they don't stand up for change it will never happen. The Catholic church tends to respond much more appropriately to human rights abuses in the face of litigation, unfortunately.

What an order has belongs to the entire community, not to individual sisters. This was their home. All homes have value, including yours. The services they rendered supported the community at large. They had bills to pay, and social security that they had to pay into. They were also responsible for the health care of their elderly sisters. If you have ever been involved in the care of the elderly, it is terribly expensive. Please become informed! Know the facts.

She bought it, and the nuns wasn't poor to begin with. To be considered a nun their family have to be considered to be of noble heritage by any means necessary that in itself is horrible. The way the nuns have a framed picture of house almost feels like idolatry. Didn't Jesus teach us to store our treasures up in heaven because if we store them on earth they are exposed to rust and thieves or something? Greed and materialism is unholy. Yes this is wrong however I question some statements in this film. When talking about Dana helping when they couldn't access their bank accounts, and Dana gave them $250,000 for care of 2 nuns for a couple months?! Most Americans don't receive 6 figures a year salary! Yet these two nuns need $250,000 for a couple months?! I honestly think just goes to show how much money is running through the churches tax free while everyone else struggles and pays taxes. Its impossible to remove people from their own home unless there are dire circumstances such as the home being unlivable. Regardless, the court sided with the Archdiocese which means they do not own that property. I know the courts make mistakes but real estate is pretty straight forward. And i have no particular love for the Archdiocese nor Katy Perry. This kind of story is normally the sort of thing that makes me very angry. However, they did not regain occupancy of their home and they just lost in court regarding the sale of the property. Should the correct documentation present itself in favour of the nuns...then it would be time to raise hell. Good night.
I don’t feel sorry for any of these people! This is a story of absolutely stunning greed- by all parties involved. Everyone in this story is motivated by greed. It’s really appalling. The Church wasn’t using it to help anyone but themselves, the nuns weren’t using it to benefit anyone but themselves. Everyone involved in this story just wants this property so that they can be even more obscenely rich. $30 MILLION DOLLARS (Hollister’s last offer). I know the property is beautiful and valuable (and the owners should be paying property taxes!). I wish it could be a (public) facility, like a center for victims of torture or a place for people to heal from trauma (maybe victims of sexual abuse?). Donating the estate for those uses would have proved decency and charitable intentions (no one needs 15 million dollars for their last couple years of retirement, and the church has a lot of abuse victims to compensate!).

This is the second time the Archdiocese of Los Angeles has abused the IHM Sisters. In the late 60's the Archdiocese took issue with the IHM's Vatican II renewal and tried to exert control over the Sisters even though they are a Pontifical Congregation. Then, over 300 IHM left to form a community not under the Archdiocese. Once again, the Archdiocese is overstepping the Sisters' canonical rights. Sad.

What an order has belongs to the entire community, not to individual sisters. This was their home. All homes have value, including yours. The services they rendered supported the community at large. They had bills to pay, and social security that they had to pay into. They were also responsible for the health care of their elderly sisters. If you have ever been involved in the care of the elderly, it is terribly expensive. Please become informed! Know the facts.

The way the nuns have a framed picture of house almost feels like idolatry. Didn't Jesus teach us to store our treasures up in heaven because if we store them on earth they are exposed to rust and thieves or something? Greed and materialism is unholy. Surely a good nun would know that and refrain from it. The problem here is that the nuns are attempting to Demonize KP's purchase, when the nuns have 'sold' the property to a commercial enterprise themselves. The nuns were put out of their home seven years ago by their own people. The nuns do not and did not have the right to sell a property they don't own. The nuns did not have the decency to lay out the correct circumstances for the public to come to a sympathetic conclusion. Instead they chose to muddy the waters with deceit.
It’s just sad that shes suing a nun over something so trivial hell she could built the exact some thing somewhere else.
They don't own it but yet they paid for it and have paperwork that says they paid for it! It's their property to sell or either live in whatever they want to do with it! Just because they decided to sell it after all these and the Archdiocese trying to steal their property and ALL their money! He took all their money! So yes they can sell it their own property they paid for out of a lot of the money THEY earned! They took the money their earned now want to sell the house and property they paid for and take the money for that! When these nuns have barely any money to survive, no retirement nothing! How the F is that right? And where is your proof who owns it/buy it/paid for it? Because the nuns have proof!
And like I said it's their house/property they can sell it and sell it to who ever they want to if it's theirs which it is! They had many paperwork going far back saying this was their property and they paid a LOT into it! But of course shady people just want to come in and try and take advantage of the nuns and because their old!

Mia CW I don't know why I am bothering lol but, clearly they do not/did not have the correct paperwork. Its impossible to remove people from their own home unless there are dire circumstances such as the home being unlivable. Regardless, the court sided with the Archdiocese which means they do not own that property. I know the courts make mistakes but real estate is pretty straight forward. And i have no particular love for the Archdiocese nor Katy Perry. This kind of story is normally the sort of thing that makes me very angry. However, they did not regain occupancy of their home and they just lost in court regarding the sale of the property. Should the correct documentation present itself in favour of the nuns...then it would be time to raise hell. Good night.
I don’t feel sorry for any of these people! This is a story of absolutely stunning greed- by all parties involved. Everyone in this story is motivated by greed. It’s really appalling. The Church wasn’t using it to help anyone but themselves, the nuns weren’t using it to benefit anyone but themselves. Everyone involved in this story just wants this property so that they can be even more obscenely rich. $30 MILLION DOLLARS (Hollister’s last offer). I know the property is beautiful and valuable (and the owners should be paying property taxes!). I wish it could be a (public) facility, like a center for victims of torture or a place for people to heal from trauma (maybe victims of sexual abuse?). Donating the estate for those uses would have proved decency and charitable intentions (no one needs 15 million dollars for their last couple years of retirement, and the church has a lot of abuse victims to compensate!).

Katy Perry sued nuns. That’s as disposable as anything. She should have seen the situation and bowed out. That’s the wrong she did. No House is worth putting these really old nuns through this, especially with all the good work they’ve done in the community over 8 decades.
Tonya Powell Perry doesn’t ‘put the nuns through’ anything. The nuns had disputes and legal battles within the church for years and years. At the time Perry wanted to buy the property it was rightful for her to do so. It’s still a church matter.
