What a fine singer Kim Beacon was...I was at his funeral sadly only about half a dozen people there....such a talent and he never knew just how much he was loved and respected....a sad lesson for all of those who chase the demon drugs and booze.

I got to know Kim around the last ten years or so of hi life when he can back to medway....I had most of his last recorded work...lent it ro someone to copy and of course they lost it....I know he was working sometime with a guitarist 'Billy?' inb Scotland on and off.... I did some recording with him at a studio in London on a song called ' Chasing the Dragon' pretty apt s it happens.......I liked Kim he was always a good bloke and such a wasted talent....As I say the demon drugs and booze not many can beat it...

'A Curious Feeling' is such a wonderful treasure. The fact that it didn't sell makes it that much more intriguing these many years later. Its a required album to discover if you love Tony's musicianship.
To not know Tony's solo albums is to only know half the man. To take the time to explore these diamonds will (vastly) increase your adoration of him.

Joe Whalen Absolutely. This album captured my heart in 1979 and I still love it, perhaps a little less intensely, but it always will occupy a large place in the musical jukebox of my mind and heart, as well as many of Tony’s other works.

If Phil Collins wrote A curious feeling it would have been a hit..Nobody outside Genesis knew who Tony Banks was that's why it wasn't a success! I think Tony's solo stuff was just as good as Phil's. It came down to how Virgin/Charisma records promote the album that's all!

I’ve been a Genesis fan since I was a little girl and have always gravitated towards Tony. I had no clue why. Was it because he was attractive? Because he played piano (something I myself also did)? Because he always seemed a bit on the stoic side in the videos and I found it relatable? I never knew as a child. But, as I matured and really began hearing various parts in the music and found Tony’s solo works, it all made sense. He wasn’t just some piano/keyboard player in a band. He was a pianist, a true artist and master of his craft. Honestly, I wish he’d have gotten the recognition he deserved for his talents. But at least there are some of us who do recognize what real talent is. I hope he reads these comments and sees that there are those of us, though few we may be, who are fortunate enough to recognize true musical genius when we see it.

I found this to be the case in many bands: The keyboarders appear to be in the background, but they are in fact the musical heart of the band. Other examples would be Ken Hensley in Uriah Heep, or Jon Lord in Deep Purple.

Genesis keyboardist Tony Banks recorded his first solo LP, “A Curious Feeling” (1979), when the band was taking some time off in 1979. Its a concept album about a guy whose mind is collapsing.
Banks explained where the track “For a While” fits in : “There’s a particular point in the song where he knows he’s about to lose some of his memory and faculties and everything, and he’s just reflecting on how it is for him, and also for his young lady, and how it affects her. It’s a sort of sad song in a way, and out of context, it doesn’t make quite as much sense.”
THE WHOLE OEUVRE IS WORTH A LISTEN OR TEN‼️ 💜🎵💚

This is awesome. Both highly (!!!) underrated!!! Been a fan of Genesis ever since I heard White mountain back in the early 70's. And they only got better and better. Then Peter Gabriel unfortunately left. Don't really care for the "mainstream" years (with a few exceptions). But in the early/mid 70's they were my fave band!
Been listening to their stuff more thoroughly lately. Tony Banks is a master, a wizard, a genius!! Word! All those 70's songs are true masterpieces! Especially Firth of fifth. Awesome! But this solo album really beats everything else. It's so soulful, breaks your heart. A curious feeling, Lucky me, and this one, just woooowww - they are my top fave songs!! RIP Kim Beacon! What a tremendous, amazing singer. That voice, just wonder why he wasn't more wellknown, more successful. I bought the TB album when it was released, but didn't really reflect about who sang on the album. Never heard of him until I saw this video recently (2021) and learnt about his story. So sad he's gone.
Yes, really, both highly underrated!! Thanks for posting! 🙏💯❤️🎵🎶

    I feel it leading me
Away to I don't know where.
    I might be back someday,
But the people and things will change
And no one will remember me then.
    Don't need no sympathy,
    For soon I'll forget everything.
    I feel it fading now,
And I see in the eyes of my love
Tears for how it might have been.
It sure felt good for a while.
Yes it was good for a while.
I found somebody to take my hand
To the promised land of the loved.
Now as the night draws in,
A dark with no promise of dawn,
I feel my eyes grow dim,
As I see in the eyes of my love
Tears for how it might have been.
It sure felt good for a while.
Yes it was good for a while.
I found somebody to take my hand
To the promised land of the loved.

'A Curious Feeling' spent five weeks in the album charts reaching no.21 so it must have sold some copies! The 2009 remix CD is well worth a listen; the fade on this track is longer. Tony makes reference to recording this promo video with Kim Beacon and then losing touch with him over the years. When he looked him up for this reissue project, sadly he learnt that Kim had passed away in 2001. RIP Kim.

Great tune, this. One of those songs you think would have fitted in nicely to the Genesis albums of the time (and a far superior replacement for, say, 'Misunderstanding' on Duke). Easy to imagine it being sung by Phil Collins, although Kim Beacon's vocals lend a burned out poignancy to the lyrics I don't think Collins' ever could. Still rather curious that Banks' solo career never reached the commercial heights of his bandmates, especially as his solo debut was such a fine record.

Great song, fabulous album. I bought it in 1982 and absolutely loved it. I then lent it to a friend and fellow Genesis fan. Unfortunately he had only got into Genesis with the Abacab album and really favoured the Phil Collins shorter songs. He gave it back the next day, dismissing it as 'rubbish'. I didn't bother lending him my copy of Wind and Wuthering!

Genio entre los genios. Es Burt Bacharach, Lyle Mays y los demás.
El -con todo respeto- fue Genesis. Su trabajo es un master sobre el uso de los teclados emplemáticos. Como músico sus melodías, armonías y arreglos son otro master.

I remember Kim Beacon from String Driven Thing - Please Mind Your Head. There is so much energy in his voice. The track "Overdrive" especially great.

Wow- had no idea this existed, and I've loved the song since it came out when I was a kid. Otherwordly-sounding as ever...but could not possibly be more 1979-looking.

This album (A Curious Feeling) is one of the very few LPs that I loved on 1st listen ( in 1979) and still feel the same when I hear it today. In many ways Kim Beacons voice seems better suited to Tonys writing than PG (or maybe vice versa?). Thanks TONY!! ITS A CURIOUS FEELING........

I friggin' *LOVE* Phil Collins, but I can't help but wonder what Kim would have sounded like on some Genesis tunes? "One For The Vine" would be on my wish list!
