I could be wrong but with cedar (maybe not so w cypress) you must back prime the siding before install to prevent future moisture probs. Also since top of lower boards will not be reachable for finishing, one coat of the finishing should be applied to wood on all sides. Builders don't do this maybe because they don't know what finish owner will desire, or bc they want to hurry up and get it done and go on to the next project.
Is it required to prime the back of the wood prior to installing. Any issues if not

Is it a good idea to use a gun nailer to secure the siding or will the pressure of the guns impact crack or split the material?
