Hey guys, I'm the cobra owner. This was another hell of a race no doubt. Been wanting to run a GT500 for some time. I was hoping for a W but that DCT was not having it lol glad you guys enjoyed the runs as always. AG always puts on good matchups no doubt.

Yup! My buddy has an 03 with a ton of internal work and big turbo - putting down 1200 ish to the wheels, car is bonkers 💪🏻. These things are secret weapons
I had a 500hp SRT-4 back in the day and was a highway monster. One day, 03 cobra came along and torched me. I've been humbled by these cars since.
But those srt4s back in early 2000s were awsome! Only thing I didn't like about them was fwd. If it was rwd or awd.... 😲

The Terminators are aging gracefully. Most Terminators are upgrading to the 3.4,/e85 making approx 845-900, and re- killing all the new car’s. This one is on chill mode with that 2.3 93 Octane.Still put on a great fight .
Lol, the GT500 is on chill mode being stock. Stock blower FBO e85 you can make 1200wheel
Whatever Ford did in 03/04. It will forever be historic.
This was the mustang that killed the camaro again. And the first mustang they didn’t just compare to the firebird/camaro but also the C5 corvette which was unheard of at the time.
The internals are beefed up quite a bit. You should see the 01 cobra rod compared to the 03-04 terminator cobra rod. It makes the 01 rods look like chicken bones.

Its doing good because its tuned way up with the better blower. Ive seen old camaros do the same all tweaked out but i am suprised how well it hung with the gt500 with not to many mods

Wow, such a great match up! The driver of the Terminator can shift pretty damn good. The clutches (stock ones anyway) in those cars were stiff as hell, and the shifter is awkwardly positioned in those cars. If you haven't driven one before and get a chance to do so, that combination will throw you off big time. Great video AG!!

Amazing kick off after a week pause. 2 generations colide. Old school vs the new. It was a great performance by both cars. That old termi gave us goosebumps everytime it shifts. Keep up the great content and make us happy with these races. 🤙

This just continues to solidify why I will never sell my 03 Cobra. pretty incredeble what a 20-25k car that is almost 20 years old can do up against a brand new car 3 to 4 times the price lol. These were some solid runs, I was hoping to have seen a 30-40 roll if that cobra has the stock 3.55 gears. the cobra runs hard in that range with 600-700hp. ive snagged a few Z06s and a ZR1 back when i was running 3.55s.
Don't sell it. I made that mistake 4 years ago..

That was intense. 2 beautiful Mustangs going at it. Seeing an old school Manual gearbox against the new DCTs..A+.
Super close race and nearly perfect starts too 😍. If not the Cobra's driver rippin those shift, it wouldn't had been so close. It's crazy how much a single slow shift can cost in distance. You can see the 2nd race his throw to 4th(?) was a little slower than in the first race and he dropped back about a car before he stopped the bleeding. That first run though flyin through those gears! He only lost time on the 5th gear shift.

Man. those early 2000's shifters are hard as hell to shift fast. My dad owned a tuned '03 Cobra making about 440 to the wheels. He would always complain that the shifter in those models took long as hell to shift and would frequently mis-shift or grind. Beautiful car but ford made it a pain in the ass to race in.
100% correct! It's one of the main reasons I didn't buy one back in the day and I loved those cars (I had a 92 LX 5.0 back in the day and later on a 2011 California Special).

Happy to see this. My 04 Cobra w/VMP 2.3 makes more hp. Next time a GT500 rolls up on me I won't back down. The Cobra has room to turn it up a little more even on 93. Maybe a W.O.T. box would help too.
Well he hasn't got tuned since he put his headers on so there should be some more hp after the tune. But it is running harder than before.

Cobra put a good fight. Those T56 tranny combine with a cable clutch are so hard to shift on point.

03 cobra still costing over 20 grand is insane!
Try like 35k+ for a decent well kept one with under 50k miles. Anything under 20k miles in the rarer colors like mystichrome is going to cost 55k-65k. I have couple terminators.

That's very impressive that a $10,000 car versus $100,000 car and if the driver of the Terminator could drive it better it would probably match the GT's 500 performance incredible the Terminators were true monsters and underrated
03/04 Cobra's are not $10,000 cars. They pull anywhere from $25,000 - 50K unless its in rough shape. The sonic blue one I just bought was just under 30K

03/04 Termi Cobra's were/are the current GT500 in their day. I would still own one if it was not stolen. Its a special car. Why do you think you still see full aftermarket support for a from the early 2000's ? Good runs indeed.
My heart breaks when I see races like this. When the clear difference is a DCT. Which really goes to show how old school with a few advancements can still run and/or beat the new school. Great race regardless!!
those 03,04's aint easy to shift and he kept up pretty damn good when he was on point with the gear shifts. Very nice races.

I'm thinking you mean in those gens you really have to lean forward to reach the shifter its a bit far away. Its bent back to be nearer to the driver for comfort and easy to shift instead of leaning forward. I havent been in one in years but thats what i can remember. The clutch on those especially aftermarket now the brand makes a difference is super stiff as well. So you gotta be good to be able to shift it that quick.

Nice runs! Need to replace the straight up gear lever with a "lay back" type lever: pulls a knob at least 1" further back which helps a lot. Clutch needs to be a dual for lighter pedal.

Both cars are amazing. Having owned a gt350 and now currently a cobra, and having driven almost every generation of the gt500 I’m impressed with how close that race was.
The gearing in the gt500 is all close ratio until 6th and 7th so it has a big advantage to work with, and it’s no surprise once the cobra hit 5th (which is a tall overdrive) it was all over.
One note I might add is unless things have changed, a tune is required to run that JLT intake on the gt500 because they get weird about not wanting to idle if the expected airflow isn’t close to stock.
I suspect there is more going on with the cobra if it’s able to run with a tuned (or even a stock) gt500. I’ve seen numbers on a stock gt500 from 660 to even knocking on the door to 700 and they cool very effectively so they can do back to back runs without getting hot. Cobras typically heat soak bad even with aftermarket blowers and this being a vmp it’s still not running as cool as a twin screw. My opinion is the cobra must be sitting close to 650 wheel.

Great video, love seeing old school vs. new school. The GT-500 is a more "advanced" design over the Terminaor which can almost be caracterized as a "go-kart" SN-95 chassis with a cable clutch and throttle body LOL! But boy can those cars be visious, are mod happy and easy to work on. I'm not surprised the GT-500 is prety much stock. All that sophisication comes at a cost, not something you want to mess with it can become a nighmare.
