I noted that the bandit that steels your coins in the Original Goombella tells you that you have been robbed, however in the new version she doesn't tell you at that you been robbed, but you do still see your coins get cut in half.
I love how once you give her a new contact lens, after berating Mario and insulting him constantly, when he goes to see her she's like "oh. You look well or whatever." 😂 Makes me wonder if she even gets along well with her sister.
Here is another change, in the original Gamecube game, when Mario talks to an NPC, he raises his hand. He doesn't do that in the European version because it was resembling the Nazi salute. In the remake of all versions outside of Europe, Mario no longer raises his hand when talking to someone.
If you go to the koopa who’s obsessed with peach and petal meadows and hit his posters with your hammer he will do a freak out animation. All of the other characters stay still
One difference is in the original game when trying to first find the thousand year door, the three goombas in the sewers will start catcalling goombella while in the remake they just insult mario
some very neat changes I've found: in ch. 1, when the timer's low enough, the ceiling spikes will actually wait til the timer actually reaches 0 to fully crush mario+Partner even more interestingly, in ch 2. during the bomb sequence, if the timer runs out as Lord Crump is talking to Mario+partner specifically, before he stops the timer, if the timer reaches 0 right there, they all actually have freak out animations as the bomb explodes(Lord Crump ad Mario flail their arms around), whilst the elder closes his eyes. in the original it legit just "pause/Freeze-Framed" on whatever frame the chars were on, like Lord Crump could be froze right on the remote as the screen turned white in the og, but in the remake that remote gets put away and all 4 chars freak out- 🤔 these're very subtle and nice changes. another neat change is ch. 4, in the original, both Mario and Doopliss couldn't hurt each other at all no matter how many times you fought him and you only had the "NO RUNNING!" line+the obvious Star Dinks to go by as to run away. Surprisingly, Doopliss can hurt Mario this time in the remake during these forced encounters. the remake deff fixed the forced encounters entirely lore-wise, alongside giving Doopliss 1 additional line in battle telling the player they should run by saying "you're not thinking about running are you?" Doopliss also gets very nice characterization in the final fight of ch 4 where he gets dialogue for the 1st time he takes damage there too, making ch 4 a lot better. I'm really loving all the neat lil changes TTYD remake's had so far, esp the lil unexpected ones like the bomb sequence, giving Lord Crump and Mario+partner a reaction to the timer reachin 0 🤲 Doopliss's deff the one I appreciate the most but the best part of the game is most deff the Mario thumbs up during dialogues 👍
I’ve never played TTYD before outside of the remake (playing it rn) and Doopliss’s “you’re not thinking about running, are you?” line is literally what told me “hey maybe I should run from this fight” if it hadn’t been there, my brain wouldn’t have pieced that together

While its gameplay is still great, its polish now looks dated by today’s standards in terms of visuals and pacing via its backtracking. The basic/generic NPCs make little to no varied expressions, while Mario, his partners, and Peach were at small limits of expressions with little to nothing to show off their emotions; and, to be fair, that’s what exclamation points and question mark bubbles each were for back then, but in that day and age, their lack of expressions during conversations still left much to be desired. On the other hand with gameplay though, it remains fun to progress through the main story, but what doesn’t help is how much pacing you have to do back and forth throughout the various areas and levels (most of which are massively extended) you’ve already explored to make progress trying to collect the Crystal Stars; the first half of Chapter 7 (next to Chapter 4’s second half, and most of Chapter 2 as a whole) is most guilty of this. Thankfully, the remake did WONDERS in improving them both, or at the very least for the gameplay, lessen the damage they caused just to keep that satisfying experience via the presentation.
