I finally created a lined version of this bag! It is lined, fully finished on the inside, and still super easy! Check out that version here --> ua-cam.com/video/tb461H_v-zw/v-deo.html
I bought a giant bag of zippers at a garage sale for $2 a year or two ago that I've hardly made a dent in. But in the past I've purchased 7-8 inch zippers, assorted colors, 100-150 at a time from zipper stop (ebay or etsy). They are good quality like you would buy at a fabric store and for a great price.
i have probably watched 20 -25 different ways to make a zippered pouch but this is the most original, easiest and cutest one on youtube. i love it. i have already made one and see many more in my future.
Went to a demo in a very good quilt shop to make this project. They were showcasing their embroidery machines (put your initial on it) but YOUR METHOD IS MUCH SIMPLER and terrific. Congrats. A quilter from OHIO
This was perfect. I adjusted the size to suit my project, and ended up with a cool bag made from canvas to carry tools and stuff on my motorcycle. Your zipper tricks here will be the foundation for many more projects. I was making a mess of this and flying blind till now. Many thanks!
I've had a heavy duty zipper and canvas laying around for years. With your great informative video I made a strong little bag for tools, camping stuff or whatever. Great job! Thank you! I might be the only guy that posted a comment. Haha! Happy New Year!!
Thank you! Bought my 12 year old niece a sewing machine for Xmas- looking for starting projects...I think that even I can do this- It will also be my first zipper:)
This is totally awesome and seem to be really easy to make. I will use your tutorial in my next sewing project.Thank you soo much for sharing. I don't understand why people would give this video thumbs down.🤔
Whitney, my sewing machine has been in storage since March 2016 preparing for a move. I always love your bag patterns. This gets me excited because I will be moving in the next 2 weeks, so March 2017 will be my new beginning!!!
Hi Whitney, Thank you so much for such a clear and clever way to make a zippered bag! I have viewed (and tried) other methods with decent results after MUCH effort. Your tutorial appeals to me because I can achieve the same results (better because of the time factor) WITH MUCH LESS WORK!!! LOVE IT!!!
I was searching for an easy to follow youtube video to refer my beginning machine quilters to. We will be doing some free motion quilting and then making a bag with a zipper. Thank you Whitney for this easy quick video they will really enjoy it and understand where we are going with the zipper for our class.
I use this size bag to keep my diaper bag organized. It's great! I have one for kid snacks, change of clothes, meds and toys.... Lovely simple tutorial, Thanks!
I followed your directions and made this bag out of leopard print corduroy. I have been wanting to learn how to sew a zipper, and your directions were good and clear. I am using the bag for my charging cables and ear buds. Thanks so much!
This is a great beginner sewing project for my daughter, and not to mention a great way for her to use up my scraps. Thanks a bunch for sharing this amazing project.
This an awesome quick project. I plan to try it when I get home but embroider on a initial on it before I finish it. THIS IS AWESOME!!!!! spare change will be put in it.
Whitney Sews, I want to thank you very very, much for your teaching skills. The first time I saw your skills I was wanting to put together, a bag, well I watched several people, and did not get it , but when i got to you, I GOT IT !! I would like to know how I could see every thing that you have created, cause i could use a little bit of every thing you do, for all that I do !! please add me to any more creations that you may have. I am a DUMMY when it comes to internet and computer use. THANK YOU again.
Nanna's Novelties Thanks, glad you like the tutorial :) You can find the rest of my videos on my channel page. Click the Videos tab just below the picture and they are all there from newest to oldest :) ua-cam.com/users/aglanceatmyworld
I am having a problem with putting in a zipper. I have made several sizes, and I need to have some different ideas, on the closer meaning zipper or flap over. please if you can give me,some insight I would really appreciate it. I made one of your 5 minute coin prses.did not turn out so hot.LOL
If there are thrift stores in your area check those often. I used to carry a needle, thread, full bobbin and scrap of fabric in my purse. So if I come across a machine that looked good I could plug the machine in and try it out. You want to make sure the engine doesn't smoke, that the stitches are fairly straight, and that it doesn't make weird noises. You can google to find what else to look for. I've always sort of lucked out with finding good machines, so I'm no expert. Best of luck!
Perfect timing...was looking for something quick and easy for co-workers and this fills the bill. You can even square off the bottom a bit so the pouch can 'stand'. Awesome with good instruction. Thank you :)
Love!! I am addicted to bags so this is right up my alley! I could put make up, make it a little bigger and put toiletries, knitting notions ect. The ideas are endless! Thanks so much for another great tutorial!
I wish I had ran across this video when my daughter wanted to make a very easy zippered bag. We labored over making the one with the zipper on the top and using Pink Panther material for the lining. I love that you were able to use the regular sewing foot as guide and how clean the zipper looked.
This was a blast to make! It really only took me a few minutes and I had everything I needed at home! I made it a little longer just for fun. Plan to make tons of these for friends! What a great video! Thank you!
I was googling how to make a tote bag with zipper, and I landed here. Not exactly what I needed, but I'm definitely going to make this! So easy and cute. Also, your machine is SO pretty!
I'm so glad you happened onto my channel and liked the video :) If you haven't subscribed already I hope you do because I post a new sewing video every single week!
i made my first bag using this video! Also my first project with a zipper! i made it with a tapestry place mat i had picked up at a yard sale, very easy to follow and thank you so much
lOVE this video Whitney ...you are such a great wee teacher!! I made my first tote bag a couple of years back through your video ...wonderful stuff. Hi from Northern Ireland !! x
Once the fabric is sewn to the zipper on both sides (while still inside out) arrange it so the zipper tab is on the opposite side from how you want it to end up at (like if you want it to open from the left have it so when closed while inside out the tab is on the right). Then open it part way and sew down the sides. When you flip it right side out the tab should then be where you wanted it. Hope that helps!
Love your tutorials. Really helping me in my sewing. I made a little black one with a tea cup on it to take a few tea bags with me when I am out and about and want my own tea.
Thank you so much again Whitney for showing us how to make a easy zipper bag. I have looked at a lot of other sites for sewing zipper bags but I always like to come back to your site. :) I am also going to send your site to my little sister Pauline. She really wants to learn how to sew your (Easy) zipper bags. Sincerely, Talitha Arrand P.S. I hope you and your precious family have been doing well. ;)
OMG! This is so easy. I am making a new tallit bag (prayer shawl) for my dad and was trying to sew the zipping at the same time as the lining. This means taking it all apart but it will be much easier with my arthritic fingers. Thanks. Oy1
I had my friend make your easy zipper bag on her third time sewing. Yes, your easy zipper bag was made by my friend with only 6 hours of sewing experience and she made two of them! We joked that this"5-minutes" zipper pouch took two hours, but it was her first time cutting fabric! We will be making your lined version soon. Thank you!
entirely 2-2 easy -- I've gone crazy embroidering names on the fabric 1st and then making the bags . . makes a GREAT little thank you gift or a jus' cus' gift . . Thks much for the Toot :)
I just inherited a whole craft room and there's a thousand pieces that I thought I couldn't use but now with these zipper bags maybe I could use them and make them for gifts and stocking stuffers for the upcoming holiday season thanks
Whitney I love your quick and easy tutorials. They are so easy to follow. I have made many of your projects! Would you be able to make a tutorial of a bag made out of see through vinyl sewed with fabric and with a zipper? Thank you so much!
Liz Turney I have a couple of videos making bags with vinyl (with drawstring closures), but it's the same idea. You would want to sew a little bit of fabric on the vinyl to attach the zipper onto, then make the bag like normal. If you sewed the zipper right to the vinyl it can weaken in because you would need to sew the zipper on then flip and top stitch which pokes a lot of holes. Hope that helps :)
Oh my!! Only just found this video!! Put my 1st zip in...OK had to unpick once but realised my mistake! Thankyou will make a few pouches and will progress.. thankyou great tutorial
I made this bag for my 17 year old daughter. I used scrap fabric and a very old zipper I found in my mothers sewing stuff. My daughter uses the bag for her makeup brushes. I am new to sewing and it was my first time putting in a zipper. As easy as this video is to follow I still sewed the zipper on wrong and had to rip out the first seam and do it over but the end result was very cute.
I made two. The first one was kind of messed up at the French seam part. The second one turned out great. Hours later I figured how to fix the first one and it ended up a coffin shape Batman Bag! Score! Thank you so much!
not as quick and easy as you made it but I've now got a general idea of how to do it and will move forward - thanks for this. Really helps beginners like me - many thanks
You make it look so easy! I will definitely be trying this - it's my type of quick and easy project with a great looking result. Thanks for posting it.
Hi!! This is very help full as a matter of fact i made my very first simple pouch bag today... i made it.. although it took time for me because i'm just starting to learn how to sew... i wish i did it when i was younger but my mother did not teach me every time i tried, our sewing machine is having trouble..! Haha.. so i did not thought I'm going to get interested in sewing...! Haha.. thanks you!
I have several recycled zippers to re-purpose, but I'm thinking I could also use some of these bags in all sizes & depths, but using long strips of hook & loop tape in place of the zippers. I'd add a small fabric loop under the middle of the flap to get the "rip"-open started ;-)) and in the case of the bag w/the Zip closure, I'd add an extension to the zipper pull-tab [ribbon, insulated wire "curly cord", rickrack, yarn, floss, metal keyring, small carabiner, charm, crochet stitch marker...]
This would be a great idea for christmas presents.. Maybe fill with sweets and chocolate for kids or pens and pencils. Maybe toilettries or make up for adults or teenagers. So many possibilities. I will deffinately be making some of these. X
A quick and easy project!! I just have one question - does it matter which way you lay down the zipper on the first application? I would like them to open from left to right, which is opposite of the way you did the demo. However, I did notice at the end, that you did have some going in both directions. So what do I need to pay attention to when I put the zipper face down on the fabric? Thanks for another fantastic video, Whitney!! Grace
So awesome! I love to sew, and I've done a few small projects like this along with a dress for myself, but lately I haven't been very inspired but I want to do something small thats versatile, quick, easy, and a good gift idea. This is perfect! Thanks Whitney :)
I love this!! I've been looking for a tutorial to make easy zipper bags to store my girl's toys and these will work perfectly!! Thanks for sharing (from one youtuber to another :))
I have a pencil case in my bag holding all sorts of odds and ends, tablets, Vaseline, pen etc but this would be prettier so that's my project for today, thanks Whitney :)
i made several bags similar to this design out of beautiful fabrics. i even went on to line them and hide all of the seams between the two layers of fabric. they were so nice. i think i might have sold 2 or 3. i don't understand why some things sell for some but not others.
I finally created a lined version of this bag! It is lined, fully finished on the inside, and still super easy! Check out that version here --> ua-cam.com/video/tb461H_v-zw/v-deo.html

fab...can't wait :) !!
I will have some for sale in my etsy store, but it won't be until next month because I have a craft fair coming up first.

So glad you figured out how to fix it!
So very easy. I like the zipper placement. Thx for the video!
Great project! Looks so easy. Your instructions are so clear. How would you line this? Time for another tut, lol for lining. Thank you so much!

Haha.. thanks you!
I'm so glad the video was helpful!
It really is super easy to do :) I hope you give it a try!
Grace
what a cute little bag. Whitney made it seem so easy. I was intimidated before of a making a zipper bag. Not now.
ben Harrison I'm glad the video was helpful! I hope you give the bag a try :)
