I've made lots of these over the last many years. Just love this method! Thought I'd pass along a tip. I didn't want to have a raw edge on the short side that goes behind the zipper, and since I don't have a serger and didn't want to have to zig-zag the edge, I first sewed a seam on each of the short ends before applying the zipper (sew right sides together on the short end, turn right sides out, press, then continue as Whitney instructs). Makes it a little more finished with no fraying threads to get stuck in the zipper, and just a few extra minutes added to the 5-minute zipper bag!
Ugh where were u for 2 weeks? Lol I was banging my head on the wall trying to figure how to easily sew a zipper on bag and since I only live with men...no help.lol I'm glad I found u. Thank you for this! You saved me hours of work. 🙂💕
I have been making lined zipper bags but a different way. Your way is SO much easier. Today is a rainy cold day, good day to make your type of zipper bags! Thank you.
Aloha Whitney... and our favorite Latin lurkers, et al... * * * I am always amazed at how easy this bag is to create... EVEN IF you do want to use directional fabric... it is simply a matter of cutting the outer fabric in half; orienting the images the way they are desired; and sew the outer fabric together again before beginning... easy peasy... adding another two or three minutes to the entire project... I have tried many methods of sewing zipper bags. This is the BEST method and your tutorial is excellent! It really is the easiest way to do it. I’ll never make one any other way. Thank you very much.
I literally watched this video and was inspired and popped out of bed to make one and it only took a few minutes! I made a small one and also added a key ring which took me a sec to figure to think about how it would work, but it did. I also sewed the zipper in the regular way you would for a zipper pouch to hide the edges and then did the French seams! Love it so much much? Thank you!!
Whitney, I just made 3 of these in about 2 hours. I am so glad to have a TRULY QUICK project that is something useful I can donate to needy people to bless them. Thanks, this is GREAT!!
Loving your style of presenting. I have made numerous totes and bags with my 15 grandchildren. You give excellent instructions with matching visuals. The kids are all so proud of their projects upon completion. Keep up the wonderful work!
i have now made your lined tote bag and lined zipped pouch; they are the first things I have EVER made! your tutorials were very easy to follow, thank you!
I love this! I made your 5-minute zipper bag several years ago. I was always intimidated by bags with lining. But this really is easy! You've done it again. I'm going to be making lined zipper bags this way from now on. Many thanks! Blessings!
@@moderndaymercantile I'm glad I'm not the only one! I was telling Whitney in a comment that my dad was with Singer for 50 years before he passed, but I only started sewing as an adult. Typical kid. Hi Whitney....revisiting your marvellous tutorials for zippers and pouch patterns....thankyou so much for all you continue to share...you are a terrific creator and teacher.Hope you and those you cherish are well x
I just sewed this bag for a gift exchange for an art quilt guild holiday party tomorrow--it was quick and easy as advertised. Your videos always provide clear instructions. I added a strap to it.
Hi Whitney, I've made many zipper bags following various tutorials, but this is the first I've seen with sewing the fabrics right sides out and using French seams - terrific! I can't wait to try one. The only other thing I would do is press with an iron as I go along to flatten everything out and make it as neat as possible. Many thanks!

I've been searching to find how much fabric to use with a certain size zipper your expination in the beginning is awesome and helps me know how much fabric I need
Thanks Whitney! This has helped me simplify a project I have been working on for some time. I don't know why some of us have to make things so hard for ourselves, lol! Thanks again, from a long time sewer, ;) !!!
Thanks for a great video. Glad you used 2 very different patterned & coloured materials. It shows up well. Great little project. Going to try this method for 2 coin purses for my 2 granddaughters for school
such an awesome idea! I've made lots of your bags and little zipper bags. I always go back to your tutorials to remind me how to do a step I might have forgotten. And I always look for new tutorials from you. So I finally pushed the bell!! Don't know why I didn't do it sooner. You are a great mom and an inspiration for even old girls like me. Thank you for your efforts
Thanks to you, I was able to create a lined zipper pouch today for my friend! 😍👛✨ I made it 5.5 in x 9 in though so it could be used to carry smaller items like coins or lipgloss. ☺️ I sort of failed on the French seam, but all in all the end result made me so happy! Especially since I’m not the best at sewing! Ah! You’ve given me so much confidence to try more! Thank you, thank you! 💖
That is so wonderful! Even if it didn't turn out exact that isttotally ok! My projects don't always finish exactly how I want. Let me know how the next one turns out...I'm sure you'll keep getting better and better :)
Whitney, I found your YT channel this week and this tutorial is amazing! I made three large bags (14” x 18”) yesterday for cross stitch project bags. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful pattern. I made Christmas, Patriotic and a very girly rose project bags. I plan to make some smaller one for gifts. I am making cross stitch Christmas ornaments for my Children and I will make bags for them to store them. I also have friends who have to carry Epi Pens with them at all times due to allergies and I plan to make small ones for them to carry Epi Pens, antihistamine in. It’s so kind of you to provide such a helpful, easy to follow tutorial. I am talking about your tutorial on the FB pages I follow.
I'm so glad you like my channel and found this video helpful! I would love to see pics of the bag you made! You can share them on my Whitney Sews Facebook page if you get a chance. Thanks so much for sharing my video with others you know. Hope you have a wonderful day!
Brilliant!! Epi pen bags! I take my son to hospital for allergy shots every month. We can’t leave early unless I prove I have our pen. . . in a ziplock bag. I’m going to make s bag for that also. Such a great idea. Thanks.
Great tutorial! I've made two small bags last year and just finished making a third one in a larger size! My skill at sewing in a zipper is improving each time! Thanks so much!
whitney could you come up with a diaper and wipes bag that could hold at least four diapers and a package of wipes. I have two great grandchildren coming and I know that eventually the mothers are going to get tired of carrying a diaper bag around all the time. sometimes you just don't need that much.
This is an excellent video Whitney. It is helpful, clear and concise. Thank you so much. I’m glad I stumbled onto your channel. Now I am a subscriber and I won’t miss the next great tutorial.
So glad I watched this! Super easy and makes such a cute little bag! I was able to put one together so quickly (while watching along and pausing your tutorial LoL). Thank you!
I made one of these today, and it turned out pretty well. I quilted the main fabric using fusible fleece. One thing I found difficult is attaching the second side of the zipper, and that's because the fabric was covering it. Also, when I open and close the pouch I see raw, rough edges of fabric on one side of the zipper. Great video ....but if you could actually show the sewing part (how the presser foot is positioned along the zipper), that would be extremely helpful. Another thing I found is when sewing the final side seems if you don't have at least a quarter inch seam allowance, a few raw edges and bits of fabric will show through on the outside.
WOW, great video Whitney!! Now I have something to do with all my smaller pieces of fabric. Glad you are on UA-cam, have a great and successful New Year with your adorable family!!
I love this little pocket! It can be any size/shape. It’s such an easy way to add a little keeper pocket to an existing tote or even in the inside of a jacket or coat. I hand sew it into place and it’s a custom pocket!
You are amazing, I've been looking for tutorials I can start out with and you are the one girl. Thanks so much for your wonderful videos. I'm so sorry for your recent lots and you are in my prayers..
Thanks again Whitney!! I sew this bag today (it was my first time sewing a zipper, quite scary) and it looks great. Not perfect (because I am more of begginner intermediate level) but I learnt so much!! I already searched through my stash what fabric I could use to make more ( I have a few extra zipers)!!! They are great to tidy up, and would make great gifts too!!
I like using a rotary cutter, an acrylic ruler, and a rotary safe mat. Those really help a lot! You can see my favorite ones in my Amazon affiliate link - www.amazon.com/shop/aglanceatmyworld
Thank you for such an easy to follow tutorial. I am using this process for all my zipper bag, pouches and iPad cases. I have figured out how to add foam stabilizer. My request is would it be possible to do another tutorial and add a pocket and/ or a double zipper. Thank you again
I love this one. It's much easier than other lined zip bags I've seen. The french seam makes it easy, like the pillowcase. Thanks BTW, I deconstructed a cheap pouch, which has a waterproof lining, and I think I can use this method to add a new exterior fabric, with minimal effort!
I commented a couple days ago about how excited I was for this tutorial. As I've always been a little intimidated about lining things partly because I am wheelchair bound and have dexterity issues. I had a thought. Could this method be used to make a tote bag as well?? You got me thinking about easier ways to do lining lol. If so, could you do it tutorial about it? I don't think I told you in my first post how much I enjoy your content. I've watched for a number of years, but you're really helping me to get back into sewing. I could watch you make and talk about just anything ! And the fact that you do cosplay just puts it over the top. You're not a Doctor Who fan by any chance are you? Thanks for all you do. Blessings!
Hmm, I would proabably work for a tote, but the top edge would have to be hemmed or something if you don't include the zipper. Straps could be sewn to the outside after making the bag portion.

That is so wonderful! Even if it didn't turn out exact that isttotally ok! My projects don't always finish exactly how I want. Let me know how the next one turns out...I'm sure you'll keep getting better and better :)
Whitney Sews Will do! 😍✨
Astonishing! Will try asap. Too late tonight.
Watch you over and over. Thx
The best and easiest tutorial!!! Thank you so much!
Super easy and like always your fabrics are so gorgeous!
Thank you!
So clear and to the point and beautifully focused! Thank you!
These are GREAT! I made 3 today! So easy! Thanks for the tutorial!
Wonderful! So glad you love the video and made three of your own bags :)
Thanks.
Genius! I'm only worried like you mentioned about that zipper. Can't wait to try this!
Done took me 10 minutes. Awesome tutorial. Now to find another zipper.
Awesome! I'm so glad you gave it a try and that it was so quick for you to make :)
Saw your video on fb and i follow you now on here. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.
Whitney i love all yr videos on bags....am doing some bags tomorrow ...can hardly wait am so excited!!!! #GreatJob #ExplanationWasClear
Thank you!
What a clever way of doing that. awesome.
Thanks :)
This is awesome. I’m gonna try and put a batting in between the fabrics for an IPad bag.
TFS
Thanks so much Whitney for this easy tutorial. Will be making these for our church fete. God bless and love from India 😍
very clever. I used to sew lining differently. Nice fabrics also.
asdona mur she always chooses the best combinations!
Thanks :) There are definitely other ways to make a lined bag, but this is the easiest way I've found!
yeah, this IS the easiest way :)
Great video and technique! I’m going to iron interfacing on the outside piece and make a wristlet ❤️
Thank you for this video. Love it. French
seam is so much better.😍
You teach us in a very good way very well
WOW, great video Whitney!! Now I have something to do with all my smaller pieces of fabric. Glad you are on UA-cam, have a great and successful New Year with your adorable family!!
Thank you!! So glad you liked it :)
Thank you Whitney! You are sent from heaven!
Well done! Thanks for saving my little gray cells!
I love this little pocket!
It can be any size/shape. It’s such an easy way to add a little keeper pocket to an existing tote or even in the inside of a jacket or coat.
I hand sew it into place and it’s a custom pocket!
Awesome!! Thank you! I got a bunch of zippers and didn't know what to do with them!
Glad you liked it :)
Really great. Top stitching was tricky! I love this method. Thank you!!
Glad you liked it!
Great job. I will be making this bag forever. Thank you. 😁
You are amazing, I've been looking for tutorials I can start out with and you are the one girl. Thanks so much for your wonderful videos. I'm so sorry for your recent lots and you are in my prayers..
Thank you! So glad you found my tutorials and that they are helpful for you!
Luv your tutorials, Whitney.. The first one I made came out perfect..Thanks
Whitney plz can you give me some tips on how to cut my fabric straight. Thanks!
I like using a rotary cutter, an acrylic ruler, and a rotary safe mat. Those really help a lot! You can see my favorite ones in my Amazon affiliate link - www.amazon.com/shop/aglanceatmyworld
Love how simple this is!
I have made so many of these. Love them. Thank you!
@@Whitney_Sews thanks so much! 😊 I will let you know if I try it.
Mine came out great! What a great gift and so easy!
Love how quick and easy this is! Thanks
