    We sold the heck out of those Echo’s during the last of the (Wild Wild West)car salesman days ‘99-‘07🤣

    Had a 2012 Tc and absolutely loved it! Most people don’t realize it but CH-R was actually supposed to be a Scion until the brand was discontinued by Toyota. Its styling was too radical for the Toyota buyer.

  • @BSFJeebus
    @BSFJeebus 2 місяці тому +5

    having owned a Scion, Toyota created the brand explicitly to gain new buyers, who would grow up and buy toyotas, and then make money and buy lexus, marketing 101, client retention. period. but of course, the 2007/08 crash broke the target demographic and old people have money, the end.

    I see you don’t get the FRS . It’s not a car for drag racing . It was never supposed to be a light to light street drag car . It was always made to be about driving dynamics . It was the return of AE86 . As legendary as the AE86 is , it was never a fast car either .

      You gotta realize how the road system works in the states. Most states in the country are long straights so most peoples concepts of “fast” are high horsepower numbers and quick 0-60 as opposed to tight driving dynamics and a light weight chassis

      @@jamesstewart3771 Being a great handler is not my issue with it. I can’t quite explain it, the FR-S felt as if something was missing. I definitely did not like the clutch pedal when I tested it in 2013. The 86 felt more of what the original FR-S should have been.

      @@BrkDownMedia Maybe the inputs feel dead like the shifter the throttle response ( drive by wire systems can do that even if there's a sport mode) the boxer engine may not have as much at the top like it runs out of breath in the top of the rev range. Especially us Honda Guys we expect to have a car that breaths well in the top end and all inputs including the clutch should feel mechanical and sort of well oiled, like the inputs encourage you to use them. Subarus tend to not have that vibe.

    As a millennial as well, when I was in high school I thought the xB was a really neat design, coming from playing video games like Midnight Club and stuff, the tC did not even cross my mind at the time
    Fast forward to now, I actually bought a tC because of its subtle sporty design and reliability. It's an amazing car, fun to drive, great quirks such as the hatchback and massive cargo space when the rear seats are folder, great engine, and timeless design (the thing looks like a more stylish Tesla from the side).
    The FRS still looks like a cool car all these years later though and if I could trade my tC for the FR-S but still maintain the reliability and, let's face it, the torque of the tC I would in a heartbeat.

      The TC always caught my eye, and I honestly wanted the one with the supercharger. But ultimately I always ended up going with the Civic Si.

    I bought a 2015 xB 5-Speed with 32,000 miles on it during the early months of the pandemic, May 2020. It was a 1-owner car, and brilliantly clean. The dealer had it on their lot for 6 months and they just wanted to get rid of it. I bought it for $9,000. It's basically a rebadged Camry (same engine and transmission). The same dealer now wants to buy it back from me for _more_ money than I paid for it ... XD ... They emailed me offering $10,200 for it. It's a no-nonsense car and it drives beautifully. I put another 30,000 miles on it in the past 4 years, so it's a 9 year old car now with ~63,000 miles on it. I bet I can drive it until 2035 and I wouldn't need anything besides oil, brakes, and maybe transmission fluid eventually. I agree with your points, though! You're totally right about what happened with Scion. I still love my xB and I'm so glad I got it when I did :D

    • @BrkDownMedia
      @BrkDownMedia  2 місяці тому +2

      @@bc5084 The FRS is arguably those things, but we’re discussing the TC which was the better seller cause it was more practical. The TC is what set the tone for Scion as a youthful competitor to cars like the Mazda3 hatchback 2.5 and Honda Civic Si.

    What do you mean the FRS isn't sporty? It's one of the best handling cars ever made. It is fast when the road isn't a straight line.
    People don't understand why Scion exists but never question why other manufacturers do the same exact thing.
    GM has had Chevrolet, GMC, Pontiac, Cadillac, Buick, Oldsmobile, and Saturn. There are others, but they are from other countries that GM has owned or been affiliated with and noone ever questions it.

    • @BrkDownMedia
      @BrkDownMedia  2 місяці тому

      By sporty, I mean it lacked punch. We can argue that it was a handler or power car, but ultimately it lost to other competitors because many didn’t find it as a better choice of buy. It sold better than the BRZ but as I said before the new 86 did a better rendition of the initial formula.
      I have an unreleased video explaining Saturn, it got cut for the same reason Scion did - Unprofitable.

    Was trying to find a tC for such a long time but ended up with a Honda Fit. Worse choice ever. I'm never buying a Honda again. So unreliable. It's only a 2018 as well.

    probably did not help that these cars were so ugly. i just got my first car after driving an old corolla for a long time and i didn’t even look at a new toyota because they were just so damn ugly my brother and mother are also looking at cars that are not toyotas due to the design. i had a great experience with the old corolla but am much happier now
