- In today's episode of farming life at la forge we will be showing you all that went on during our corn / wheat harvest 2021 including what went wrong, cutting wheat, storing, baling straw and cutting whole crop for seed
Love it all the way from Ireland 🇮🇪
Your Mom did a great job raking Laura
Didn’t realise that the weather was so bad this year. Laura, I wish I had been born into a farming family with strong parents - like yours. Although Declan says it’s all fine, I can see a touch of “I worked so hard, it could have been so different”. My favourite time is in a combine, MF525 in the late 70’s and more recently modern Case Axelflows with all the bells and whistles. I can see that your dad is pleased to have you around to be the calving maid and cook - a very important role indeed. Don’t let the poor season get you down please, next year it will be fantastic !
With the rental cottages coming along, it is another source of income.
Take care, be safe and laugh lots.... plus keep smiling. If nothing else, you are super stars now and bring a lot of people a few minutes of pleasure every week.
Richard of Dorset England.
Ps . We passed our TB test on Friday thankfully and the cattle are up on the hill until Nearly Christmas .
Sounds like some great times! all in all we've had a good year but yes it can't all go to plan! glad you passed your TB test! take care :)
Well done Laura, great video. The weather rules us all and it can be soul-destroying to see how much damage the lack of rain had for your crop.
Keep making the great videos. You are doing a fantastic job.
Thanks for sharing.
My ancestors are of France. The house at Westhoffen they lived at is still there and I have Cousins in Alsace and also Paris. My ancestors come to America after Bonaparte who they supported and were driven out during the White terror. I just retired from farming in Missouri 2019 after 45 years. I plan to visit France soon and would like to visit your farm someday. Thank you for your video. It is quite informative and much that you do is the same as we did here at our home. HARD WORK!!!🇺🇸
Small world!!!
Hey Laura, I love watching your families life in france, especially your dad's collection of Ford and the older New Holland tractors
Great video Laura and Declan
Love watching what you guys are doing good job
I love watching your videos it's so different watching how everything is done in Europe or France to be exact compared to Canada and I seen you guys have a Thomas skid steer I was 10 years old when I learned how to run a skid steer and it was a Thomas I grew up where Thomas is built in Canada just wanted to say I love your videos and keep it up thanks a lot
Awesome drone footage Laura
Top notch video.. 👍Can't wait to see the leyland...
It’s a tough life Laura, thank you for sharing this years harvest with us, fingers crossed 🤞🏼for a better one next year, and a few less boar. Perhaps you should try and get a few in the freezer. Say hi to mum and dad, they both have my deepest respect.
Thanks, yes hopefully next year, it can't allways go to plan haha. Yes the hunt do bring us some during hunting season ;) will do, hope all is well over your end :)
Great video Laura.

thank you glad you enjoyed the video :)
@@FarmingLifeatLaForge just looking at video again and I have a question for you is safe to be walking in the silo without some safety kit on ? 👍🏻🇮🇪☘️
Great video Laura 👌
Thank you! 😀
Great video. Thanks
Great video Laura
Thanks :)
I could definitely think of worse things to be doing than a week doing grain carting and the likes in rural France. Ye’re doing a mighty job with the videos - keep up the good work!
The dust and heat is what makes it horrible, thanks glad you enjoyed it :)
one hell of a crop to get - years ago we used to fit lifters to the header - buggers used to bend and sometimes get up the elevator!
it sure is annoying when it bends over like that!
Great video. Its crazy the amount of damage the wild boars done to you're crop and destroying the field. Ye had a busy few weeks. Hope the rest of the calving goes well. The harvest was pretty good over hear in Ireland.
Thank you :)
Good afternoon from Grand Forks
Make sure to do a video on that Leyland Laura looks fresh👀! Love your videos from Portumna Galway
Will do!!
Good vid,, boy ur dad one hard worker 😅🤙🤙👍👍
Thanks, he sure is :)
Love it already
Very interesting video, liked that one a lot. Get the chasse to those sanglier it's there responsibility to keep numbers down.
Cheers and bon courage
Yes the chasse are about but they can only hunt during hunting season but they do keep on top of them mostley
Another great video Laura, sorry to hear harvest yields weren't good. I'm just in from harvesting barley myself
Oh well can't all be go to plan unfortunetly. Hope all went well with you barley?
@@FarmingLifeatLaForge yes thanks Laura, yields and harvest weather have been good here this year
On the prairies in Canada golfers and badgers are bad for digging holes all over the place they make tunnels everywhere great big mounds of dirt it's crazy
Your mum and dad never stop. Loved the combine and the Bailing. Can't believe there are wild boars causing havoc. Loved the video.👍😊
No they don't! thanks, glad you enjoed it
Hi Laura, don't hesitate to get your local chasse committee round and show them the damage as you can get some insurance money for it. Happens alot here in the Dordogne for the maize
yes but it would have had to ba assest while the crop that was dammaged was still in the field :) thanks!
Such a shame, the damage to the cereals and the weather, didn't realise you'd had so much rain.
I hope next season is better.
Yes it has been a very odd summer here, but no drought at least. Thanks :)
great vid thanks........
Thank you :)
Great Video Laura...how many acres are you and your family now farming in France? 👍👍👍👌
Sorry to hear harvest wasn’t as good as should be. We are all at the weathers mercy. We had no rain for 2 months in late spring, early summer which affected our wheat crop yield. Nothing ya can do, salvage what you can and go again.
Hi Laura Super vidéo. My god a lot hard work. But it has to be done. Your mam is a great asset. Well able to get the job done. And Declan is coming on a pace. Very matter of fact
Like and subscribe !!!
Thank you so much!
great video again laura , does the old leyland run ?.
We'll be doing a video on her soon ;) Thanks
Hello wäre are you in france? Wish you Happy eastern.
Laura that looks like if it the straw lodged,
I presume ye sprayed it to keep that from happening?
yes it's lodged, wee get a lot of stormes here in the summer
You mustn’t get much of a break during harvest time. Too bad about the drone. I have a couple of DJI Mavic Mini’s. I could send you one if ours interested. I haven’t used it in over a year. Let me know if you’re interested.
Was that wild boars running through your wheat field
On camera? That was our dog. In the video we did a while back tour of our cattle a wild boar ran in the background
wild boar (in the u.s., we call them feral hogs) ... they have become a serious problem for wild life as well as for farming and natural reserve/park areas... the crazy part is that they were introduced to the environment by hunters and the hogs have reverted to their natural wild nature and size (they are huge, aggressive wild animals) ... but the government and hunters introduce wild animals into the environment all the time... (now, i've got mountain lions tracks around my property as well as bear and i live fairly close to urban/city areas)... i enjoy hunting but not when i've got work to do and animals to tend... your wheat/corn looked like duram wheat (do you feed duram wheat to your cattle ?)
Hello can I ask where abouts in Ireland did ye live?.
We're from Co.Galway :)
he's getting good on camera, Like and subscribe!!
Are farmers in France allowed to control wild boar on there property or is it against EU rules. Its even dusty here in the UK in the wheat and barley this year its a strange year
you have to have a hunting licence and only during hunting season, but yes you can
Well that’s farming
Hey you might be knocked off the wedding list for not supplying the square bales
Very un Irish not to support the wedding straw
Looking forward to a bumper harvest here in Western Australian fingers X
haha I don't think we'll be knocked off don't worry ;)
Wheat harvest
Yes in america corn is maize and to us corn is grain ;)
Corn ?
macht dein vater alles alleine auf der farm oder helfen noch welche liebe grüsse
You lovy girl xxx
cutting it with a hay mower would get most of it maybe?
yes that's what we did, we got a lot, but still too many rocks :)
Time for some feral hog hunting…
@@FarmingLifeatLaForge
It would be good to make us a presentation video of the farm, as well as the reason of your adventure in France. I also make an effort in English. 😂
Great video Laura and Declan
