I saw them open for Tool at Porter Hall in Ottawa, Canada on Feb 22, 1994. I still have the ticket stub and the demo cassette that they threw to me. I've been a Failure fan ever since, glad to see them back!
holy cow! this may sound weird, but i too saw them in 94 at the Roseland opening for TOOL where they also threw a demo tape into the crowed, it literally landed on my head! lol ever since i've been a fan till now. great music!
I had pretty much the same experience -- only in Buffalo in January of that year. And I didn't catch the promo cassette w/ the three songs from the album. But I was blown away and became a fan on the spot.
Along with Trent Reznor, Maynard and Raymond Watts - Ken Andrews is my favorite musical inspiration! Complex artist with a unique musical landscape vision! So sincere and a truly real one!
Agreed, Failure is the secret sauce of alternative music to me... they are very good at that vibe of melody over heavy, but remains solid in heavy territory too.
Discovered Failure back in '96 after hearing "Stuck On You" on the radio. I bought Fantastic Planet based on that one song and was totally blown away -- that record is a masterpiece. Bought their other two, Ken's solo stuff, Year Of The Rabbit. It's exciting to see them back together. I hope they tour and come to the D.C. area.
Just discovering these guys. They seem like a cross over between grunge and shoegaze. I like what I hear. I heard their version of "Enjoy the Silence" and I loved it. Glad they are back!
Thank you for finishing up Magnified and sticking with it. I wish you would go back and fix up Comfort in the same way. Just amazing music, and you are right that the music didn't get the recognition it deserved. Great music, great stuff.
Been a fan since 92 with the comfort days, and saw them last night in SF. Was blown away by how tight they are and how big the sound is. This is one of the best atl bands EVER. Go see them, then go see them again. Very happy everyone is clean and I hope that it stays that way.
These two guys have a unique slant and twist to their songs that is just so alluring. It was really cool to attend the El Rey reunion show and chat with fellow fans. Everyone seemed cool and laid back with their own stories to tell. Good people. Now we'll wait for that Failure EP or album!!
Do they still have the original 4 track recordings necessary to do that? I always thought it all ended up being recorded together and that’s why they were forced to re-record the whole thing over, even though that was their plan to begin with... they didn’t allow for the possibility of using the demos... well, what do I know...
Im so overjoyed that you guys reunited! After all the years that passed away and you guys laying off the drugs its like fate gave you guys time to recollect and start on other material that would conclusively lead to you guys back together! Failure is a success story! :D can't wait to see you guys live again! Your gigs are extrodinary!!!!
they just played last night @ Sunset Street Music Festival here in L.A and they blew my mind! definitely a diamond in the rough. i'm watching them again!! listen to their story, lots of bands probably have gone through the same but these guys are bouncing back with a humble approach.
I love these guys. Their music is so badass and otherworldy but as human beings, they seem very down to earth and humble. Hope i can see them play live, maybe meet them one day.
They are following the same path as glam bands did. Many glam bands reformed in the early 2000's to surprising success. I think grunge bands are starting to reform and that is fucking awesome.
@execration_texts I wish yall would have been a youth like I was in 1996', there was a Bond film that featured "Stuck on You" as the main theme for the opener, and then this song was on a Doc Marten's Music Sampler, a gift to get you to buy their expensive sandals/boots, that co trained a mic of 10-12 songs, all current hits. It was really neat getting a pair of the sandals to rule them all, then hearing this as an extra. It was straight to Barnes and Noble to pick up Fantastic Planet, and Magnified, as a shot in the dark. One thing I found with this band, you're never disappointed, each album has bangers that have me coming back if not daily, every other day.
They're totally different bands, moreover, most of Tool fans aren't actually understanding what they're listening to and it's meaning. I greatly appreciate both bands, but they're very different; no need for competitions. I guess Tool has been around for more time, won a Grammy award, has more material and so on. I guess that's why they're more famous than Failure, but after all it's great to see that more fans of Failure's music are gathering. We must appreciate every band and song independently. Like Ken said, people were obsessed with Nirvana and Pearl Jam that they didn't have the opened mindset to understand and appreciate our music.
@@Dillonmac96 I actually don't like Nirvana. I can still listen to RHCP, but I can't listen to Nirvana. It's like I've grown up out of that phase. RHCP though and the album One Hot Minute... To me, not even Nevermind comes close.
It's crazy. I OBSESS over Failure and their greatness, and when "The Heart is a Monster" came out, I was convinced it was nostalgia telling me how great it was, but no; it sounded just like it needed to sound to be an evolution of the band and a continuation of their sound. And then "In the Future..." came out and I was blown away by how they managed to top themselves again.
David Nash Thank you! Our song Choices was used there. The stuff in the beginning is not ours. There are credits in the end. The Spanish Armada is the other artist credited. Cheers!
How is it even possible that they broke up for 17 years and have reformed and put out two albums of some of their all-time best work? And doing so without just mining the same sound of the first 3 albums and not evolving?
He probably is, but that’s kinda just how he is too. I have a similar thing...hard to make my sentences flow on the fly sometimes with words occasionally getting stuck
Alright ladies and gentleman... APC's 13th step when I was introduced to FAILURE. I was 11 when these guys were approaching Fantastic. Seen m live, hung out with Andrews and support them throughout the rest of their legendary ideas. Speaking of "drugs" as an issue?? Well... A wise man once said "Rockers against drugs?!?!?" Boy they suck!" - ?
we fucking love you in aotearoa. please come here. 'magnified' is like part of my flesh. and i am not alone. please come come to new zealand. please. PLEASE. you will be pleasantly surprised by how much we dig you. you might even get a haka out of it
Yah! They're playing Emos this Saturday. I found out about it last month when I went to the new album listening session at Waterloo. It'll be nice to hear some new songs live.
I saw them open for Tool at Porter Hall in Ottawa, Canada on Feb 22, 1994. I still have the ticket stub and the demo cassette that they threw to me. I've been a Failure fan ever since, glad to see them back!

I saw them a week prior in NYC feb 14 94’

Nice! These guys are fucking heroes and pioneers in music.
@@JakeTheMDog they went on to record many good artists too.
@@caiusmadison2996 I know, they are still awesome
Seriously the most underrated band of the 90s and I would even say they’re underrated now.
Agreed, Failure is the secret sauce of alternative music to me... they are very good at that vibe of melody over heavy, but remains solid in heavy territory too.
Damn u can tell it’s genuine answers the way they answer it I’m 22 now about to see failure live for first time
where? i don’t believe they have any upcoming dates as iirc they canceled their appearance at that festival in vegas
@@colonelspicymustard oh shit that’s where I was supposed to see them @sicknewworld
@@dedmex666 yeah, they canceled, only show I've wanted to see too, since moving here to Vegas 2 years ago, and it's canceled.

They are coming to Silver Spring @ Filmore 6/5.
Got tickets my brother!
Billy Hughes me too!
Hell yes!
Funny enough, they were just at the 9:30 club a week ago.
Saw these guys in Atl with Local H in the 90's. One of the best shows I have seen. New album is awesome
Just discovering these guys. They seem like a cross over between grunge and shoegaze. I like what I hear. I heard their version of "Enjoy the Silence" and I loved it. Glad they are back!
Don't forget the industrial drums and dilapidated keys. That's a main bench post of their sound.
Thank you for finishing up Magnified and sticking with it. I wish you would go back and fix up Comfort in the same way. Just amazing music, and you are right that the music didn't get the recognition it deserved. Great music, great stuff.

Ken/Greg, please, please, get Kelli to replace the drum machine parts on the Magnified demos, and release them. Sincerely-every Failure fan EVER.

Holy shit, I can't believe Failure is back! Now if HUM gets back together my life will be complete.
HUM plays a few shows every couple years or so. Mostly in Chicago though.
They play random shows here and there, but they never really came back as a proper reunion. One can dream, though.
Cuda Hendrix Amen!
Cuda Hendrix Not sure if you're aware, but they're touring together in August.
Well your life is complete now. Hum's 'Inlet' is a phenomenal return album.
failure has a way with melody that i really like. i knew "stuck on you" back from when i was 12, but recently i've been getting into "undone".
They're geniuses when it comes to creating original and effective chord progressions, that's why I love them

i saw ken andrews when he was with year of the rabbit touring with thursday. fell in love of that band too. all his songs were great!! YOTR!!
I am beyond stoked to see these guys play on the same stage as T00L, again, 17 years later

Hell yeah the new album is crazy good. These guys are amazing. Dynamic duo
Thank god you still had the thing!
I agree, not taking away from the old stuff but building on it. The new stuff is next level Failure
Big fan
We dig the hell out of you guys. Going to see you in Detroit for the first time in April.
Been listening since 96 and that was my first show too :) hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!
Just saw them in STL....still crying
Only 421 views? These kids nowadays need to know about these guys. SPREAD THE WORD!
The new records are just as great as the old stuff, amazing music.
these guys where such a great surprise in San Francisco with Tool this past week - what a great show !
their fantastic planet set in new york was literally perfect. one of the best shows i've ever seen

everyone raves about Fantastic Planet, but Magnified is flawless IMO.
I agree, although i love both. Magnified catches my ear a bit more. But the lyrics of Fantastic Planet really hit hard for me
you guys are amazing
I'm in my early twenties and I just found these guys a little under three years ago. I truly wonder how much of their fanbase is relatively new?
Farfig Noogan For me the same, discovered them like three and a half yrs ago. 26 years old though.
Oddly I also found them at 26. Strange...

Now, in hindsight, the 3 new albums
Absolute masterpiece albums
Hope they go for the next 20 years. They sound better than ever
Nashville, Tennessee please
Interesting about the Magnified demos. Although they are EXTREMELY close to the final product performance-wise.
Your favourite band's favourite band.

Failure is underrated, Tool is overrated.
