      Nice. Failure is amazing. You should checkout a project the lead singer (ken andrews) did after failure broke up. The project was simply called “ON,” and it was released by Sony Music in either 1999 or early 2000s. It’s very unique and great stuff.
      Also, another great band who’s also hardly known of, but has a similar classic guitar rock sound as Failure, is Fugazi. I totally recommend them. Start with their album “13 rooms.” “The argument” album is good too, but “13 rooms” was my fav.

      Can you try to explain what that is to a non-musician like myself (layman) who’s never heard of such a term (dragging quarter note stab)?

    • @SPLEclipse
      @SPLEclipse 4 роки тому +17

      @@anti-ethniccleansing465 Sure thing! A stab is just a "hit", with guitar it's just a loud strum. With a drummer it might be playing the drums louder for a beat. Dragging just means playing slightly after the "real" beat should be played if you are playing to a metronome. If you listen to the very beginning of the song and all the harder parts after he says "all the other guys" there's a slow down in tempo. All of the chords in those "post-other-guys" portions are hitting quarter notes of the song, which is basically counting off the rhythm as 1-2-3-4 if you listen to when he sounds each chord. They slow down just a bit each time making it drag just a little. It''s almost imperceptible, but just enough to make you feel it. Adds a lot of tension.

      @@anti-ethniccleansing465 they way they aggressively lean into what is normally considered a boring/conventional time-signature lends itself to a metal aesthetic that is pretty profound. it's best illustrated in the outro where the entire thing falls apart from them basically stomping the song to death.

    This was the first Failure song I ever listened to. I found it from listening to A Perfect Circle's cover from their album Thirteenth Step which oddly enough I don't really like that much. Ever since I've slowly been building up my library with songs from these guys. It even led me to find some of their other music outside of Failure, like Year of the Rabbit and Autolux. Truly great artists. Can't wait to listen to what comes next.
