I really like and enjoy this In the Weeds series. Oddly enough I'm just amazed at the accuracy and fluidity Gabe flows with using the big yellow pen. Just awesome and well done :)
I think Josh Heupel coached this game about as perfect as conditions allowed for. To myself it appears he understood the path of least resistance came through keeping our offense on the field and out defense off the field during the second half. The OU defense was drawing a schematic on how to beat the Tennessee offense and it had to be stopped. Heupel simply chose to hold his cards close and allow our offense to get in some much needed practices. Which did not disappoint considering the struggles faced. Still a miles away from any real offensive identity but a gain was made towards and I do not regret it at all. Hawkins will grow mentally and I hope Jackson Arnold’s frustrations mend to a sound play level. Jackson Arnold was thrown into a bad situation with the injuries and I believe it out him into desperation. I hope he grows from this and does not regret the wisdom. I’ll thank him for his dedication through all of this. We need growth not regret.
I can't argue with any of that. Personally, I think pulling Arnold was the best thing for everyone, and that includes Jackson Arnold. Given the adversity and the opponent our offense was facing, I'm guessing that at some level, he was thinking he had to be Superman and carry this offense into the SEC on his back. Given the resources and coaching available to him, I suspect he'll one day he'll be thankful for the opportunity that this circumstance provides him.😎
we've been missing the offensive chip on the shoulder that baker and other greats of the past had. glad to see Hawkins bring the edge that our offense needed. hopefully we can build on it and shore up the season with great wins from here out.
As far as the narrative around Oklahoma the great thing? We still have 8 games to change that narrative and it starts at Auburn this weekend. We play just as well on defense and we have a functioning offense we beat Auburn handedly and in just one game the talk will begin to change. Then 2 weeks later we really can change the narrative in Dallas but it starts this Saturday. So those of you worried about what the talking heads are saying right now those guys flip in two seconds and what they say has nothing to do with nothing. A lot of fans are acting like this season is over yet we knew we were going to lose games in the SEC and a lot of people had us losing to TN. All of our goals are still ahead of us and attainable and I promise you BV is preaching that exact message. As a player you view things so much differently than fans do and it’s not nearly as emotional with those guys. Put your head down, get better everyday, correct the correctable and then control the one thing you can control and that’s playing with effort. The effort and the passion is just lacking on the offensive side and the weak leadership has something to do with that. When the guy you’re looking to as your leader is literally in shock and so twisted and lost in his own head, how do you think those other 10 guys feel? Especially if MH has been playing that week through fall camp. Add on top of that, your QB is the single most important position on the field. Hopefully just the change in attitude and energy that MH will bring will get these other guys excited and going. It shouldn’t take that but sometimes it does. I HATE the lack of maximum effort on every single play that I see from the offense compared to our defense. If the offense could at the very least play with that same kind of energy the results would be completely different.
Better hope so. Right now OU has the worst SEC conference record of any team. Every other SEC team that’s lost this season so far has SEC conference wins in their past. OU does not. They are 0-1 all time in the SEC. Better hope they can beat the 16th rated team out of 16-Auburn.
Great point about the two TDs from Hawkins. Everyone nationally keeps downplaying them, but I promise you that the Tennessee defense was downplaying Nothing! They were fighting like wild men to keep Oklahoma out of the end zone. I was watching. There's a reason the refs called back both of his TD runs. Tennessee defense was flying around like men on fire to try and stop him! I'm OK with the first overturn, but not the second. There was enough of the ball past the line to call that a touchdown! That was BullSpit!
They definitely were. Tennessee was aware of that long streak they had of keeping a opponent out of the endzone and working hard to preserve it. I don't know how people didn't catch that.
@@dewittmathews2508 I think the point for most people are that OU fans are overhyping 2 late touchdown drives during garbage time when the dude had over an entire half of nothing. That game was nowhere near as close as the final score indicated. OU’s defense is good enough to beat a lot of teams but you play that game 10 times with whoever at qb Tennessee still wins. Hawkins will help alleviate some of the OL issues but it’s not gonna get any easier from this point on. Good luck the rest of the way!
I don't know anyone who's over hyping the play of Michael Hawkins Jr? I have heard a couple of people say that Oklahoma could have possibly won that game IF Hawkins had been the quarterback this season instead of Arnold, and I agree that it's "possible". Not likely, but definitely possible if Hawkins had 4 starts under his belt and had game planned for Tennessee and was playing at home. There's always a possibility of un upset with that defense and being at home. It's college football. But seeing a true freshman come in under that kind of pressure, against that defense, on prime time tv, with everyone in Oklahoma looking to him, and lead the team on two TD drives! It's hard to "over hype" that. That's impressive as hell! That's not luck. That's getting it done under the most extreme conditions!
Man if his decisions and balls remain that quick and crisp we will be a problem and able to compete. He has a double gear to get up field or to the edge. Very encouraging. Now if we can either just decide to run a gap scheme or get to the edges to run we might be back in business. We can do this.
Hopefully Fans support him through both his ups and downs. Expectations need to be realistic and if he happens to exceed those then obviously that’s great. As a player but especially a young player you need that positivity of a fan base behind you and not one that gets in your head. That’s the last thing we need. It looks like with his style of play that he will have the fan base excited.
Based on Hawkins Jr.'s stats playing two quarters during the Tennessee game, if we copy those to the first three games and to Future games too, here is what his stats would have or could look like.🤭 . Now on the stats I gave him two touchdowns for TN game, since the referees took away the one that was 2 inches short, which was bullshit. But this would balance out anyways since the first three opponents were powder cake teams somewhat. I am just trying to get a "general idea" as to what his stats could have looked like or would look like based on what he has done during the two quarters against Tennessee, which the experts claim is a national championship caliber defense: . - Passing yards: 3,168 - Rushing yards: 528 - TDs: 48 - Pass completion %: 70 - Turnovers: 0 🤔😆🤷😲💪
