Great video. I only ever leave a dead bait in a spot for a few hours at the most, but if i do I will twitch the bait either on the pop up or by lifting the rod and re-setting. More often than not I get a take before I’ve re-clipped the rod. Those night takes looked like Eels. You did the right thing winding in for the night. 👍🏻
Appreciate the feedback! I have only been pike fishing and dead baiting a handful of times now so really new to it still. I usually reel in and re-cast every 2 hours or so, and probably switch the dead bait every second cast roughly. I know that changing it more often makes it more attractive but its so many mackerel I would burn through 😆
I will make sure to try twitching the dead baits a little after a while, maybe that can incentivize a bite! What do you usually do with the old deadbaits, do you use them to feed the area you are fishing or is that counter productive?
@@fishandchill. Unless the Crays or Eels have smashed your bait it’s ok to keep it on if it’s fresh to start off with. Older baits I chop up with meat scissors to tiny bits and feed them in as loose offerings. They add attraction but also keep the Eels occupied if they are in the water. Just make sure they go in close to your bait. Pike won’t wander far especially big ones when the water temp really drops. If the water is coloured or after heavy rain I swap the lead for a big open ended feeder that I pack with chopped fish, ground bait and oil. It adds a good scent trail but also attracts bait fish that cause disturbance that draws out the Pike in. I’ve had some good results doin this. Last weekend I had 4 fish, only to mid double but others on the water struggled or blanked, the water was heavily coloured due to heavy rain. Also no need to let the Pike run.. that’s a myth. Always strike as soon as the clip pulls out. If you miss a run on the strike put the rod straight back on the alarm and clip back up. If it happens a few times it’s either small Pike, Eels, Crays or incorrect hook placement in relation to the size of the bait. Also pop your baits up (you may do this) and if you are on a soft bottom put the lead or feeder on a long weak link so the run ring doesn’t get clogged up in silt or soft mud. I use Catfish pro ceramic rings and a large 12mm rubber stopper bead or a modified Pikepro boom. I also always use an up-trace. I use 120lb crimped mono for this. It’s thicker than wire and does less damage to the scales or fins if the Pike wraps it’s self up, which they can do with an up trace. 👍🏻 😃

Just watched all 3 of your videos mate, personally i find circle hooks better if you want to fish overnight because the pike and eel dont get deep hooked, fair play to you i hope your channel gets big

dude, you seem totally stoked about catching pike. i was out today... pikes kept following my lures and i got two strikes but they did not follow trough.
at one time, i could see three pikes right infront of me in the water. they all had followed my lures, i tried to change it up but i had to leave emptihanded...
i'm sure, if i had used some deadbating makarel! i would have gotten great success!!! :)

this must be super frustrating seeing pike follow but not properly attack, maybe try the same another day and have a lot of success. deadbaiting is very effective and the pike love them oily fish, so definitely give that a try if you can. thanks much, there is more videos to come once I am fully recovered to the cold I am suffering now haha

yeah definitely, I am mainly a carp angler actually and want to improve my feeder fishing aswell! I was thinking to go to my local pond and go for carp, but the drops in temperature don't make it very easy 😅

@@fishandchill. Yeah sadly the temperature isn't helping but there is always hope for a fish. I'll be waiting for the carp videos and I definitely recommend getting better at long distance feeder fishing cuz that can open up a lot of possibilities when the weather starts heating up.
