For future reference, IIRC, all Japanese made cameras are obligated to have a shutter sound of some kind due to issues Japan has with voyeurism. The "chikan" issue they have on trains in particular is likely a clause for this since many perverts try to take pictures up girls' skirts in the tight quarters. This is much more difficult to do when the camera makes an audible sound since Japanese public manners generally leave public transportation being very quiet (it's rude to be talking on your phone for example", thus making the fake shutter much more audible and the perverts, much easier to spot.
Basically, it's a cross between an (D)SLR and a compact point and shoot. It offers the interchangeable lenses of the SLR, with the compact size of a point and shoot (without lens), and the control of the SLR (lots of point and shoots nowadays have this). It does have drawbacks, lack of accessories outside of lenses. Body may not be too great for everyone, etc. That's basically how I'd put it though. I purchased this over an entry level SLR because I wanted the compact size with the control.
1. I ONLY considered the Sony NEX line after watching your initial in depth reviews of the 5N vs 5R. 2. I was talked out of a full frame because of you. 3. Your channel is hands down one of the best UA-cam channels in general. 4. Keep up the awesome work! DD Fan for life!
The sony nex 3n is now on sale at amazon for $289.99. I also saw the same price at B&h PHOTO VIDEO. I just purchased the sony nex 3n earlier today. I dont know how long this sale will last so grab one if you can. Unfortunately its only for the black model not the white. If you want the white model its $498 on amazon and $440 at B&H. I've been researching for a week and was debating on the panasonic lx7 or sony nex 3n, but when the price dropped to the same price as the lx7, I just jumped on the sony nex 3n.
i bought this camera used as a bundle of 16-50 and 55-210 mainly for the lenses. I intend to sell the body and pickup a higher end body down the road like the Nex-7 or a6000. I also like the a7 but thats full frame and thus will require pricier lenses. I really want a nex 7 or a6000 pretty much for the viewfinder.
To the speaker in this video: Did you compare pictures between 3n and 5R using the same lens? How is the image quality in different conditions? Would be GREAT if you were able to make a separate comparison video.
Didn't think much of this camera until I picked it up and started shooting it in the store. I had it in auto and it was grabbing moving subjects very well. It blew away the rx100 and wasn't that much bigger.
Well I have just paid 49 pounds for a Sony NEX-3N and 76 pounds for that lens..lets see how good it is.. I need to travel lighter that with slr cameras
I have the nx1000 and it is an awesome camera. The only issues is the write speed and the focusing speed. Focusing is an issue in low contrast or low light situations. 20% of my pictures were out of focus. Also, the nx1000 is missing the articulating screen and build quality.
This channel is brilliant. I didn't even like Sony cameras until I started watching these videos. You're both factual and passionate with these reviews. Great work!
This is a good review, very in depth and detailed. However a bit repetitive but I don't mind simply because I am on the fence about getting a NEX 3N or NEX F3. I like the fact the NEX 3N is newer at a bit more compact but here are some of my pluses for the F3. 1. Better grip and shutter button location 2. Much better LCD to view in sunlight (which I often am fishing or with my kids outside) 3. It's slightly faster then the 3N 4. It's cheaper the 3N by at least $50+
First ever removable lens purchase for basic picture taking (point and shoot in the past). Thinking about trying my hand at posting video responses on you tube as well. Looks like I may have accidently purchased a gem LOL. Thanks!!!
How is the video recording? Is there a lot of autofocus noise when you are recording video and using autofocus? How does the autofocus noise in video compare to the 5r? Thanks for taking the time and doing a great review.
Hi, Just wanted to say how great your reviews are.I trust them and they are well presented and informative I am highly likely to buy a nex model on your annalasis. Thanks for all your hard work.
Thanks for the great review, I've just ordered one. I'm upgrading from a Sony A200 I was set on a Sony A55 for months but decided I wanted something smaller so I can carry it with me all the time, but still have full creative control. I love the 3N small form factor, it reminds me of the Olympus OM10 I learnt on.
Is this sarcastic, or serious? If serious, the 15-50mm/3.5-6.5 does come in the kit. I think Sony does offer the 3N body only as well (don't quote me), the body only obviously won't come with a lens.
hi! i just ordered this camera. :) i saw ther is hot shooe adapters you can plug in place where you usualy plug nex-3 flash, and you can atach any flash. my question is can you mount some electronic view finder on it?
I really respect your videos on the NEX line-up. I had purchased a 5RK, but I copped out and bought a NEX-7N... lol I gave the 5RK to my wife as a anniversary gift, so now she thinks I was buying us both matching cameras, when secretly I didn't feel like gift shopping and I didn't have a better way justify 2 cameras... it's an asshole move I know, but I blame you for what I have done. lol
Best reviews by far!!! You are too smart! Thanks for that- I picked up a Nex 3 for me on ebay and a pancake. Its got a monster zeiss on it right now lol cheers
Excellent review, thanks. Maybe a bit too long (too much repetitions), but great anyway. Why don't you show the AF speed, in order to let us make our own opinion? :) Otherwise, your vid helped to choose between the 5r and the 3n. I'll take a 3n as a backup camera, in addition ton my reflex (D7000). Keep on the same way!

DD Fan for life!
picked up the 3n at Best Buy for 150.000 including the power zoom lens!! it was an open box missing battery but 150 was a steal!!!
Damn... if you sell it in parts you might make a lot of money!!!!

My left ear enjoyed this video a lot.
exactly what I was thinking.

Is it possible to turn off the fake shutter sound ??
Brilliant thorough review, I love how you elaborate and make the buying decision easy. Thanks for that, just ordered the Nex 3N!
How is the video recording? Is there a lot of autofocus noise when you are recording video and using autofocus? How does the autofocus noise in video compare to the 5r? Thanks for taking the time and doing a great review.
Can I use my old canon lens with this?

the 5R w/kit lens is at $430 today with Adorama
bought this camera last week for $329 at adorama which includes the kit lens.

Great review. How good is the image stabilization. I understand it's in the lens and not the body. Also can you use filters on the lens.
How can you get videos from this camera on to iPhone?
Thank you for the video! Just getting starting in photography and am really happy with my purchase.
dont know about those since i never tried them, but those are more expensive i believe.
It does

RX100 should complement the NEX series...get the RX100 as a pocketable backup
When using the flash, does it cast shadows when using it with the kit lens
Brilliant review - appreciate your time and the comprehensive information you provided!!

so what did you end up buying?
Great review as always. Btw has the NEX-5R received any updates, any performance improvements?
Extremely honest review!
How good is the zoom on this camera, with the kit lens?
Best reviews by far!!! You are too smart! Thanks for that- I picked up a Nex 3 for me on ebay and a pancake. Its got a monster zeiss on it right now lol cheers
J Moore hi! have you update firmware to version 05?
Thanks for your Review, i am not sure to buy this or RX 100, can you give your opinion pls?
i bought this camera but the laguage was japanese pls someone can help me change it to english??
many thanks for your interesting video

Great camera, great review. Love your videos!
what lens is that on the 5R you have?
Very useful review thankyou
I just bought this in mint condition for £45 in 2022....😁
is it better than samsung nx1100 ?
Great review, just don't repeat your self, it's video, we can rewind if we're interested in something :)
i wanna buy this camera, how good is the macro mode?
I was impressed with macro mode, but this is also my first camera so... But I love the macro photos
Sebastián Garín Ortiz now $224.98 z
The ISO a camera goes to, has NO bearing on whether or not it performs well at those ISO's....waaaaaaaaay too much high ISO talk going on here
A camera review without a single photo being taken? lol
save money and just buy the 3n...rx100 is too expensive...3n is small enough to carry around w/o a problem...also, better camera
watching this in 2020.
too bad 16-50 is worst than older (also not so perfect) 18-55 mm
I'm pretty sure body is metal on this one
you are better off buying a sony nex 6 used
now my cell phone is better than this
