I grew ground cherry last year for the first time. I didn't have much information so I thought I'd space them as a 30"x 30" area and thinking 2' tall. Used tomato cages but unsure if I even needed it. Back corner of the garden next to my chain link fence. Well the Sweet Meat squash went nuts and reached the fence, sprawling all over it and all the way around, almost 30'. Sunflower from the previous year volunteered on the other side of the fence. A crazy jungle of plants. Not to be outdone, the ground cherries shot up to over 6' tall and completely filled the corner approx 10' x 10'.( 4 plants). I couldn't get in there. I think they were competing for the sun. I hadn't intended for them not to be in full sun. The squash and sunflowers were not in my plans. 😮😂. All this to say, I had no idea what to expect. I got some fruits from the ground cherries but I do think full sun would have done a lot better. I'll try again this year. They were very tasty.

If you haven't yet, try Hartman's Gooseberry tomato. Excellent flavour.

Thanks for sharing! We grew the Thornburn's Terra-Cotta tomato last year, 2023. It was delicious!!! I asked my 82 year old middle child from a 400 acre Pennsylvania dairy farm, born and raised, mother to taste it. The first words she spoke after tasting the Terra-Cotta were, "tomato sandwich." I said the same thing to my husband when I tasted it. We are in E TN zone 7a-b (2024 changes?). I hope you enjoy this unique tomato as much as we did.

Bread and Salt is one of the best tasting I've ever grown.

I'm growing Gobstopper and Ingleheart, and have a bunch of different purple varieties of medium sized slicers that I am going to be alternately starting once I can free up some space under my grow light and move the earlier seedlings outdoors. I bought a variety from MI Gardener called Ukrainian Purple which is a Roma style tomato; elongated with thick walls and sort of a lavender color! I'm looking forward to that one. Mr. Stripey is another that alot of people have been raving about so I bought seeds of that.
I've now got some green tomatillo plants that are pretty well established inside, and some purple tomatillo plants that are smaller, and I have been trying to get pineapple tomatillo seeds (the yellow) to germinate but for some odd reason they haven't yet even though they are the same age as the purple ones. I will keep trying, as I love Salsa Verde and want all 3 colors. I think they'd make nice Pico DeGalo.
I addition to tomatoes I am growing some Beit Alpha cucumber plants. Their stems are very brittle and a few broke while I was securing them on some hardware cloth to have them climb on, so had to re-seed some of those containers so that I have 6 plants.
I have Anheim, Serano, and Jalapeno peppers growing, and after I move those outdoors to harden off will be planting several exotic varieties of Bell Pepper; a white, a purple, and a yellow.
I have some radishes growing in a container that were slow to bulb and may still be gradually getting there. Sugar Ann snap peas are in the plan, carrots, and Bussels Sprouts.

Love this! Space under the lights is so valuable this time of year. I had to move a ton of peppers out to the greenhouse to make space for seeds we are starting this week(new video to come out!) This is one of our favorite times of the year! So much growing! Hope you have better success with the Beit Alpha than we did, had a ton of disease and pest issues with those! Keep us updated and happy growing!

I am growing 10 varieties this year. The only one on your list that i am growing is the Wisconsin 55. I just heard there are over 3000 varieties of tomatoes. Good luck, I just subscribed.

We appreciate the sub! Wisconsin 55 is a good all-around tomato. I would grow more tomato varieties but I have become a pepperhead. I am up to I think 96 varieties of pepper this year!

I gave up on speckled Roman I tried growing it 3 years in a row starts off looking great then next day ur tomato has blossom end rot...only tomato to ever give me constant problems not worth the space

We still fight with the blossom end rot a little bit. That tomato is so PH dependent it is unbelievable. I don't blame you for giving up on that one!
