      Tony Galvin's work for Villa's 2nd @12:30 was just as good.... perhaps more workmanlike though....

    Great coverage from the 80s I feel old now I must have been 11 or 12yrs old back then I wasnt at the match but spurs had a great team then like a lot off the comments about fixtures pile up I think that was a factor

    To think that 'new' stand is now just hardcore in the new stadium

    Best season and team we had in the 80’s. The seasons following this we were hit hard by injuries and never really hit the heights of 81/82.

      Totally agree as a fan of 50 years this year still believe 81/2 was the best season

      @Christopher Christos utpo to the Aston Villa game at White Hart Lane yes agreed then home defeats to Villa Everton Arsenal Ipswich and a 5/1 loss to Watford meant Everton won the league by 13 points and THAT was the season Tottenham were third in a two horse race

    • @dlamiss
      @dlamiss 3 роки тому

      @Christopher Christos correct but Tottenham were level on points with Everton and lost the previous saturday to Villa. EFC wont at Soton. So going into that game Everton were already 3 points clear. Tottenham had 9 of their final 13 games at home starting with Villa. Should have won the league with points to spare. Bowen slipped for the vital second goal and yes Southall played out of his skin. Have a mate who is a season ticker holder at Goodison and i asked him recently and he said Southall had probably half a dozen better games that season than the Tottenham game so he must have been bloody amazing

      @@iainclark5964 84/85 he is talking about. 86/87 never really in the title race, just came through strong to finish 3rd. 84/85 we were level with Everton in March and then in typical Spurs fashion bottled it despite having most of our remaining games at home, as he suggested

    What was it with Spurs and some of their seasons in the 80s with 'Games in Hand' that could have had them top. Shows its always best to have the points.

    Pickaxe III. YES - Spurs side played brilliant football. They had a brilliant blend of skill and strength for most of the season. Fixture pile-up was a major spanner in the works :-((((

      ossie did but ricky did not. still keith burkinshaw did not name villa in the squad for the FA Cup Final due to the Falklands War.

    probably spurs biggest win of the 1981/82 season.
    at one stage Spurs really did challenge for the title.

    • @mohdazmi10
      @mohdazmi10 5 років тому

      @Hannibal Barca 1984/85 Peter Shreeves was the manager while David Pleat was the manager in 1986/87.
      but the 1981/82 season was the most successful Spurs under Keith Burkinshaw. they played in two Cup Finals.

    • @mohdazmi10
      @mohdazmi10 5 років тому

      @Hannibal Barca the spurs team managed by keith burkinshaw reached its peak in the 1982/83 season. then the boardroom battle began and keith resigned after they won the 1984 UEFA Cup.
      Surely Gary Stevens remembers it clearly as he was the newcomer in the Spurs side that 1983/84 season. now he works in Malaysia as BPL pundit for ASTRO.
