I think this is a great addition to the game! I don't usually play as a male wolf or venture into rival pack territories to find a mate, 'cause there's usually plenty of dispersals to choose from. But now I'll be able to have a reason to do both and play differently than I usually play. Can't wait for the next patch!
I almost always play as a male wolf because I’m autistic and everything’s gotta be accurate. Often I go into rival pack’s territory to find a mate because I saw a documentary about painted wild dogs (from Africa) where the dispersal males went around to other packs looking for young adult females.
Oooo, this is an exciting development-- I'm curious to see it in action! All these little details and nuances really help keep the game interesting, and you've done a tremendous job especially through the persistent packs update. Very excited to see how this plays out!
Oh nice cannot wait to watch the Chapter 2 video! It is amazing to see how far this game has come, and what all it entails for the future. Ironically whenever looking for a mate as a male wolf, rather than a female, I have always found it harder in general. Had always assumed this was an actual feature...did not realize it was not actually in-game feature yet...and that there is now a plan for it. This will make things interesting.
@@Wolfquestforlife I’m around just a bit busy at the moment, school is coming back, life is a little busy…will hopefully return to some normal WQuesting soon! 😆
I really like this lil extra challenge. And I have been so excited for the next Wildest Dreams chapter. Everything about this game and it's community is just.....I can't even describe it. Just please never let your passion die.
I think new players would only have issues with the differing dispersal odds if the game doesn't inform them about it in some way. That being said, I would really like it if this was a feature in the game regardless!
Im interested in how playing as your pups will be in the Saga, at what age would you be able to play as them? Or will it stay the same as it currently? Love WolfQuest, looking forward to its development in 2024!
This is cool to see. I was one of the artists whose work was used in the original game (the painting with the parents and the puppies at the end) and it’s fun to see the progress of the sequel even if I don’t get a chance to play it often. ;)
Wow!! The work everyone has been putting into this game is insane! I've been playing for around a decade now and seeing how far this game has come is truly mesmerizing, I adore how realistic it's become and especially the social interactions!
I don’t play wolfquest so often anymore, but for some reason i always watch these videos. These little devblogs are the most entertaining ones of all the games I play. Usually these things are dull and boring, but you somehow make them really interesting and neat even though sometimes I have no idea what you’re saying. Bravo, Dave! 👏
Oh my gosh I cannot wait! Thank you so much for putting so much time and effort into this game! I love how Wolfquest has grown so much since the very start 💕 The developers are AMAZING! ✨🌈🎉😃
Oooh! The dispersing system is getting more advanced and I'm very exicted! Also, the first mini "documentary" was very interesting and now..a second documentary is coming out?! This is the most entertaining channel, ever!
Thank you all for your hard work on this series. I remember playing the original as a ten year old, and I'm still playing at 25! :) Wolves are beautiful animals and unfortunately widely misunderstood so it's great to have an accurate game that's still fun to play. 🐺My friends and I still reference "I'm boss back off" from the original game 😆
Wow! Phenomenal work! I really thought the wildest dreams series would only have that one episode, I'm so glad it's coming back! Love the game so much! Cannot wait for the saga!
It's been amazing watching this game grow! I remember playing the browser version as a kid every day after school and now here you are, the completed saga on the horizon!
i love the development so far, i just have one small request, and it’s that you add wapiti/wapiti lake 2f back as a dispersal wolf option. shes very iconic and she was the only white wolf from any of the packs, and she even inspired me to make a character after her. thanks for such a unique and awesome game!
I think including it is a good idea, both for realism and gameplay. At the moment, there's no real gameplay difference when playing as a female vs a male. Having small differences like this adds an element of replayability and requires players to change their strategies a little. Besides, if I choose to play as a male wolf, having to sneak into "enemy territory" to charm a girlfriend sounds pretty funny. It's all fun and games until her dad and brothers show up.
i love the change! not only is it more accurate it makes there reason to actually risk enemy territory if you are having a harder time finding a potential mate
I like this! I was hoping that in the saga some of your pups might stay, because I tend to get attached to basically everything and cry easily, so I’d probably be crying if all my pups dispersed 😅
WolfQuest has always been one of my all-time favorite games and one of the huge reasons as to why is how realistic it is. So I'd definitely look forward to this new feature for sure, even if it's difficult. If it's one thing we've learned it's that a wolf's life isn't easy!
oh i was wondering if you guys would ever do this!! this works so well in game and just adds that one bigger step to realism roleplay that my heart is all happy.
this is great! I love it!!! I'm excited to make a male wolf and be just like Cassanova and go sleuthing through rival territories to meet the ladies! This adds some great depth to the game I think. Especially excited that this will eventually be reflected in our own pups on how long each sex sticks around for before dispersing, I love the idea that some of my female pups may never disperse at all! Thanks for the video update! always love to watch them :)
This is really cool! I do hope that females of an appropriate age tend to wander near borders and in smaller groups more often. I think that can help a lot with males getting lucky. Could potentially even scale females being closer vs farther from their pack home based on genetics/personality, so if you want a specific type of wolf which might be more genetically dissimilar and/or more likely to hang near home, that personality plays into how far out they roam from home.
I really like this idea! I've never ventured into rival territories to find a mate, it's never been worth it before. Like another commenter said, this would give a reason to vary your gameplay strategy.
Awesome! i've been wanting an update like this for so long, just what i wanted and hoped for, super realistic as well! Question as well, since female pups might not leave till later, would that also mean that if we play as a grown female pup, is there a chance they will they be older than 2 years old?
very good, I decided to leave a comment just now. Very interesting! I'm really looking forward to the saga. I've been playing WQ for over 400 hours now. And when I saw that one subordinate wolf became a breeder (or a pack leader), I would be interested, maybe this function will be added. Either way, that would be cool. I want to thank you and your team for making such a wonderful game. Thank you very much, have a nice day/evening.
No way. No flipping way. I told myself I was going to catch the next Dev blog as early as possible so I could ask y'all about the Wildest Dreams video... Awesome stuff as usual WQ team! The attention to detail is crazy amazing and definitely makes the game as whole much more immersive! Thank you so much for your undying dedication for over 15 years to the game!!!
OH MY GOD YESS!!! i love it, that some of the pups will stay and make the pack stronger over the time, super realistic! i really like to play with female wolves so it will be more fun! as for the males, it makes sense that they'll have a harder time in the courtship, since they're more likely to leave the pack! love everything about this feature, keep up with the great work
Man it would be interesting (may be too difficult to do) but if you select female wolf it allows you to play as an established pack wolf and be courted or you chose to disperse on your own, or even take over your matriarch. Again tho that is probs too difficult to do but fun idea lol
Every update, every patch, every single thing y'all are doing perfect gameplay makes me even more excited for the game! I do have a question though, although I know it is a rare occasion, but there are lone/dispersal wolves that join pre-exsisting packs. Will that happen with NPCs later in the saga? Can we have a function of the game where we can join a pre-exsisting pack of dispersals, or a pre-exsisting pack in general? I personally just want to have the free choice to start my own pack, or join a pack, and maybe attempt to take it over
Me personaly, I am not happy about this addition. I hate venturing into rival territory because it never seems to work for me, tried for hours to find a mate in rival territory and did not find a single one. If this ends up happening I think I am dropping my usual choice of choosing male wolves and only going to pick female. Love the rest of the additions, keep it going and after the full saga is released, if you choose, you should take a break as I can't imagine how hard you guys have been working! Edit: Don't come after me in the comments...
I think @justicedreams has a point. Since it’ll now be expected that a player will go to rival packs to find a mate, the pack females should be more interested in meeting the male player-wolves than being immediately on the attack like the tend to be at present. I think the greatest challenge will be if male pack wolves are with them it may be more likely to trigger a group “attack response” to an intruder. Otherwise, I imagine they’ll behave like dispersals, if a bit more defensive and requiring more convincing to reach the actual courtship phase of the introduction. The devs have been pretty good about making the game challenging without being too frustrating or impossible so far so, while to each their own of course, I’d encourage you not to write off male wolves quite yet.
I think the best way is when you have an button in your settings where you can decide it but for my opinion it's make it more real more interesting and more fun!!
YYYEEEEEEEEESSS!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ I LOVE THIS GAME SO MUCH IT'S MY FAVORITE GAME AND IT IS THEE MOST REALISTIC GAME BY ECOLOGICAL STANDARDS!!! Keep up the good work and don't rush it. You're all doing so great with the game and progress. This game is a true masterpiece and will help teach so many people about wolves.
Always exciting to hear of the new things being added 😊 i love how its been growing. Thank you!!! Im sure this is something that may take some figuring but i did go watch the documentary on white wolf - a yellowstone wolf- do you think you may add the ability to choose to disperse with siblings when playing your pups or to join a dispersal group of the opposite gender like white wolf did?
Yes! I love that a lot! It would really help my indecisiveness lol Plus, it would make having a reason to venture into wolf territory to be a good reason cause for now it's just kinda not important to find dispersals in other wolf territories. However if this was added then it would be important to venture into wolf territory to find a mate! I would so love this lol!
I think this would be an amazing thing to add! I play both female and male and I think it would be more interesting as a male if it’s harder to find a mate!
Has anyone else noticed you can now court 1 year old wolves? I did this with one of my wolves. The 1 year old male wolf definitely seemed a lot more goofy then than the other wolves. I thought that was a cool feature.
I'm gonna be honest, I'd LOVE the difference between male and female dispersals. Plus it would give you options to either look for a mate that's a dispersal, or look for a female within a pack. I'd love the extra challenge.
Sounds like an great addition to the game I think it makes it more fun and realistic, I have Covid-19 right now and It just started yesterday, but trying to recover from it and I had to get 3 swabs to test for 3 things, excited for the next patch to arrive!
Would a possible feature for the saga be to pick an “heir” of sorts who you’d might want to take over the pack after your current wolf? A way that decreases the odds of them dispersing but not making it possible to create a new save with them until you “un-choose” them? This could make storytelling a bit easier Only one would be possible to choose and they’d still have a possibility to disperse but maybe it would be lower than the others. Just to make it so there won’t be a pack with wolves from all litters still being present, which could be up to like 49 pups which would probably make the game crash.
I think it would be cool if, when our wolf dies, we had the choice of which remaining adult female to make our new breeding female. Provided out wolf was female of course.
In the saga, if you're playing an ironwolf and you die, would you be able to play as a grown pup and continue that save with that pack? Or would that pack (your yearling/2 year old pups, etc) be lost and you have to start over? I'd love to be able to play out a multi-generational pack, where even if my original wolf dies I can continue playing, as I imagine I'm going to get pretty attached to a specific pack, territory, etc. And I'd hate to reach the elder stage, die of old age, and lose that pack rather than it being continued. Whatever you guys decide, the saga is going to be absolutely awesome though.
As I currently see: if male dispersals are more common, then it means it would make harder to find a female. But as my luck in the game, it probably means playing a male means more likely to be jumped by 2 or more bands same gender wolves who does not attack each other just focus on killing the player. Plus the pack wolves. Fun times are ahead of us, unless we always pick females.
I think it be a great addition to the game. While i play mostly female wolves it doesn't really matter atm which gender you play since it's basically the same gameplay. With this gender change in hwo stuff works it would be surely interesting^
This is the "We want to have the dispersing differences" button ! 🎉
AWOO!
I think this is a great addition to the game! I don't usually play as a male wolf or venture into rival pack territories to find a mate, 'cause there's usually plenty of dispersals to choose from. Brilliant addition to the game. This change will bring a noticeable difference to how the different sexes are played, which I find super exciting!
Very nice 👍 this game is getting so realistic it's amazing
As a person who mainly plays male wolves and likes risking it around other packs territories I think it can be fun
I'm so happy we'll see the next episode of Wildest dreams 😄 I was afraid y'all forgot about that.

Plus the pack wolves. Fun times are ahead of us, unless we always pick females.
I would love to be able to disperse with my wolf siblings one day. Up to 1-4 customizable npcs or randomized coats
I think it be a great addition to the game. While i play mostly female wolves it doesn't really matter atm which gender you play since it's basically the same gameplay. With this gender change in hwo stuff works it would be surely interesting^
WolfQuest video my favorite!!
