- Croom was an old town that existed in the late 1800's into the early 1900's in Hernando County. Turpentine and logging were big industries in the area. A railroad line once went through the town and connected many other small towns in the area. The area was once known as Pemberton Ferry, the site was located near the Withlacoochee River. Today the area is part of the Croom Tract at Withlacoochee State Forest. When visiting please be respectful and leave all history as you find it, much of what was here is now gone but some remnants can still be seen. Watch part one here: • Croom Ghost Town in Wi...

I’d contribute if you actually showed people where to find these places but im over here doing the work in finding them myself so what am I contributing to?
This was excellent. Love how you intergrade the old photos with present time. Thanks for the hike!!! 🖐️
The last passenger train through Croom was on May 1, 1971. It was Seaboard Coast Line train 93, southbound from Jacksonville to St. Petersburg that ran via Gainesville, Leesburg, Tarpon Springs, and Clearwater. It carried a through coach and a sleeper from the Illinois Central's "City of Miami" from Chicago, as well as a grill car from Jacksonville. Cross platform connections from New York were possible in Jacksonville. It was the last run of the "City", as it had left Chicago the previous day. Amtrak began operating passenger trains on May 1, and it did not select the "City" as one of the trains it would run.
The last northbound train on this route was train 92, which had run the day before, on April 30th. The tracks here were abandoned by CSX in the 1980s.
Thank you.
Wow! The trees growing around the rails are spectacular. Great find as usual!
Yep like you say nature reclaims it!
@@FLtrailblazer look on the side of the rails and you'll see the year that the rails were made and the state they were made in
great video, been back there many times. that's old iron bridge on the sumter co side you were pointing at. very rich in history, keep up the good work , love your videos !

Had no clue! Thanks for your adventurous and educational videos! Looks like I have a new to do Hike!!!
I need to go there . Its on my list. Thanks for the video.
Croom is definitely Sumter County not Hernando. Here is another fun fact.... The Withlacoochie River Divides Hernando and Sumter County Lines as well Citrus County and Sumter.

very cool research. Do you have any old photos of the mining operation that is now the bike park? Last week I was there riding and found the concrete slab with the well casing from the pump house.
That ghost town was off the rails....haha. But seriously, imagine the effort needed to do survey marker work in the time before GPS and lasers.
I know! I am sure you guys have been by this area...
Cool to see someone mention land surveying, my Dad owned Greene Land surveying in Brooksville until he passed away, he was always interested in anything old land surveying related and Florida history.
I live on the dirt road that runs from River Junction campground past Iron Bridge to Hog Island. What is the history on Iron Bridge?
Nice video!!! ❤️ be safe!
Good job, ghost towns are interesting .
Great job on the video buddy
Where exactly do you enter to see this. Only part of croom I know of is the motorcycle park since I used to ride there. Im very interested in checking this out
No use in asking he will ignore these questions unfortunately
Great video. Is that I-75 I hear in the background?
so many places in florida being developed hard to hike anywhere without some sort of road, plane or boat noise...
Good one!
