At 46 miles, Biking Florida's Withlacoochee Trail is one of Florida's hidden treasures. The Trail is of the longest paved rail-trails in Florida.
The time we spent in the Floral City area was very refreshing. Biking The Withlacoochee State Trail was only one of the highlights. We spent time checking out the quaint downtown as well and that video will be up next week.
With a generally flat terrain and many access points, biking Florida's Withlacoochee Trail is an ideal venue for all skill and fitness levels of cycling, running, walking and skating. An unpaved equestrian trail parallels portions of the paved trail. The trail corridor traverses three counties (Citrus, Hernando and Pasco), offering an enjoyable, varied journey as it runs through small towns, ranches and six distinct natural communities between Citrus Springs and Dade City.
Officially designated as part of the Florida Greenways and Trail System, this state trail is also designated as a National Recreation Trail. It offers rich opportunities for viewing plants and wildlife and provides access to many outstanding recreational opportunities.
Among the recreational highlights nearby are the unpaved trails in the Croom area of the Withlacoochee State Forest, the Withlacoochee River (South) Canoe Trail and Fort Cooper. So much history surrounds the areas all along the 46 mile trail. From thousands of years ago to present day, the area has so much learning to bestow on us.

Nice video guys! A few answere to questions noted in the video: A). The species of the turtle on the trail is a Gopher Tortoise, a species protected here in Florida that lives in ground burrows. B). The concrete posts with black and white stripes are railroad "whistle markers" with the thick black line indicating the engineer to sound long horn pulse, and the thinner black lines a short horn pulse, made in combination; for example, a wide black line and three short black lines would be a long horn pulse followed by three short horn pulses.

You asked about the posts along the trail that were white with 4 black stripes on them. You’ll notice from top to bottom the stripes were wide, wide, narrow then wide again. Pay attention the next time you hear a train whistle over a crossing. They whistle long, long, short, long. That is Morse code for the letter “Q”.
The is code for The Queen, who of course always has the right of way!!
Great video and hope that answers your question. Thanks.

Great video Dwight. That is definitely a bike trail that Tammy and I will have to check out. We definitely love our Rab Power bikes.

We're glad you liked the video, thanks for watching. It was awesome meeting you two as well. We are also looking forward to the Lippert Meet up. We try to do a video a week, so next weeks video will have all of the other cool stuff we did in the Floral City area including an airboat ride!! Take care my friends.

Whistle markers are located 1/4 of a mile from a cross road.
