What do you believe are the best & worst things about Zelda Tears of the Kingdom? Is it Perfect? What would you change? | UPDATE!!!! UPDATE!!!! - TotK is an amazing Game & the "worst" or "bad" things about it aren't actually that bad. Just small nitpicks.|
I love the game. It actually explains a lot but I didn’t know about breath of the wild plus they both connect.
Hi
Hi😊
I was told we were going to be able to pet the dogs
They did say that didn't they? 😅
Not gonna lie i was pretty surprised they didn’t add this to TOTK. They got so many comments about that in BOTW that i figured even as a joke that they’d add it. Its literally nbd at all but 6+ years development and u couldn’t let me pet our little buddy. Comeon
@@jasonnewbery not just that but I’m pretty sure there was a tweet specifically saying we can pet them in this game
None of that was ever said by Nintendo!!!
Use ultrahand. Instant dog petting
I don’t think the Zonai being mentioned as barbarians is a problem, and is actually pretty easily explained.
The labyrinth trials discuss the three clans of the Zonai: owl, boar, and dragon. These clearly line up with different elements of the triforce: wisdom, power, and courage respectively. We see that Mineru and Rauru both wear owl decorations on their outfits, signifying their attachment to the owl clan. This seems to make sense with their characters.
Perhaps the barbarian Zonai were the members of the boar clan, since power represents their greatest virtue.
Fun fact: the Ancient Hero Aspect has all three types of adornments: owl, boar, and dragon.
My favorite thing(s) in the game so far have got to be:
- Being able to find (old) Amiibo items without actually owning them. So, people who don't have them / can't get them actually have a way of obtaining these items now. Which is great knowing how hard finding the Amiibo (for a reasonable price) can be. There are always NFC chips and cards for people who don't really care about collecting figures.
- Putting the Travel Medallion in the base game instead of making it DLC exclusive again.
My least favorite thing:
- Removing elemental arrows in favor of "encouraging" people to use the new fusion mechanic. Which is cool I guess but I'd rather have the ability to buy Bomb Arrows, Electric Arrows, Etc outright instead of farming for extra materials. Especially when Bomb Flowers aren't really that easy to come by. IMO.
The love between Link and Zelda is very mutual and very special to me than anyone thinks:
- King Rhoam assigning “HIM” as her appointed knight in in the first entry of Zelda’s diary
- She is the only person that helps her Appointed Knight and Hero to be more opened to her as seen in Zelda’s diary entry in BOTW; explaining why he felt necessary to remain silent because with so much at stake and too many eyes upon him.
- After the Calamity emerges beneath Hyrule Castle and nearly 80% of the land’s population is nearby wiped out, Link is gravely wounded defending his princess. She jumps in front of Link which activates her sealing powers.
In the Champion’s Ballad DLC, Kass hints Zelda’s love for Link at the very last song. Read this lyric here: 🎵 “The princess's love for her fallen knight awakens her power / And within the castle the Calamity is forced to cower. But the knight survives! In the Shrine of Resurrection he sleeps, until from his healing dream he leaps! For fierce and deadly trials await. To regain his strength. To fulfill his fate. To become a hero once again! To wrest the princess from evil's den. The hero, the princess-hand in hand-Must bring the light back to this land.” 🎵
- Petals of the Silent Princess flowers represent their endless love as Bolton has mentioned after the Terry Town side quest.
- In memory 8 of the Dragon Tears, Zelda tells Rauru her description of Link as well as her fondness of her knight/hero/lover. Her ancestors acted like the kind of parents who would be interested in meeting their daughter’s boyfriend and hoping to put Link’s mind at ease.
- Before the pair set out to investigate the glooms beneath Hyrule Castle, Zelda was about to surprise Link with the newly improved Champion’s Tunic.
- Both become teachers in Zelda’s School to educate a new generation of Hylians in Hateno Village with the assistant of Symin (since they saw themselves through them).
- I’m not sure what the Japanese version is like, it claims that it is their home while the western called Link’s formal home “Zelda’s House”.
- After completing the side quest in Lurelin Village, NPC tells Link about the couple’s secret visit at the Lover’s Pond (meaning Zelda visits there with Link accompanying her)
- in the final boss battle, Light Dragon (Zelda) comes to save and aids Link against Draconified Ganondorf which could mean not all of her is lost. Zelda’s love for Link could be explained by her dragon instinct.
-Zelda’s dragonification is reversed when Rauru’s light power and Sonia’s time power channeling through Link. The reason why it happened was because they required Link’s stronger motives. And we have seen that before in BOTW where Zelda’s motives to save Link triggered her Light powers. It was love.
- Link held on to her tightly as they landed on a lake. Upon being woken after being asleep for hundreds of thousands of years, Zelda can describe it as “a warm, loving embrace”.
Nintendo needs to stop pretending that they aren't in a relationship or leaving it up to the players. What fans wanted is Zelink to be canon! This ain't rocket science. Not unless you are Master Kooga.
Poor Calyban, she cooks specifically for Link every day 🙁
I like to think the $70 is justified because of the multiple year delay from Covid. They lost years of revenue and could’ve forfeited the project altogether but they pushed through. I think $70 is reasonable
Another youtuber made a good point, inflation has impacted almost everything else, yet game prices have barely changed. And as big as this game was, it didn’t bother me tossing an extra $10
Also thank you for putting into words what I was thinking about the conflict regarding the Zonai being “an ancient barbaric race” vs “literal gods from the sky”
Maybe not all zonai were like Rauru were good. Perhaps some tried to conquer before Rauru? A common overlooked fact is that the sheikah actually pre date the zonai and had tech before them ( not the tech we see in botw, but they still had tech). Maybe when the zonai descended there was a bloody war between the sheikah and the Zonai tech.
I know every person and their mother is coming up with wishlists for DLC. However, I think it highly probable that Kass shows up in a DLC. First, Kass is actually mentioned in the game (not by name but by deeds, meaning Nintendo didn’t forget him), and the bulk of Kass’
Importance in BotW came in the DLC.
is it a controversial opinion, that i would love more zelda games on the same hyrule land, maybe several years later again, or even a different generation of the reincarnations of zelda and link in the same land
Thanks to TOTK, it proved BOTW and TOTK are reboots to the whole franchise, just like I thought when I first played BOTW. There was no convergence of multiple timelines as fans speculated, it's a full blown reboot starting over from scratch
I don’t believe in a convergence but I’m not sold on this being a reboot. Nintendo has spent a lot of time and money developing the lore of the franchise over the past 35+ years. Nintendo also gets a lot of free advertisement with fans making theories surrounding Zelda and the timeline. With a reboot there’s just nothing to discuss. To throw all the old games out of the window or simply say that they are myths and miss remembered legends makes them meaningless to their core. Would be a huge mistake for Nintendo to do this.
I think this is half the case, if that makes sense. I think it’s still connected to the main timeline just very far ahead (both past and present). So the all the main integral parts such as demises curse, master sword and races are still around, it’s just so far in the future that the events of the other stories don’t affect the story of these two but they still happened.
Best thing in game is new abilities and exploration, even after 300 hours i was not bored. Most disappointing thing for me was how short and easy the temples and bosses was but i really enjoyed the build up to the actual temples. Overall i loved this game and will be revisiting it over the years.
Queen gibdo be like
@@wyalalee6968 lol, with exceptions. Ganondorf also was good.
@@SharpShadow7they were more spectacle than anything else imo. Which isn’t bad per se but I was definitely hoping for SOME challenge in the fights. I went into Ganondorf’s fight underpowered with 10 hearts bc I spent so much time exploring and beat him without having to think about it. But boyyyy oh boy was it a beautiful, climactic fight.
I love how people are complaining that there are complaining about it being " no better than a DLC" and has no new additions to the map.... as if there isn't an entire area equal to the size of Hyrule's surface that wasn't there before in addition to adding another entirely different area IN THE SKY, which requires an ENTIRELY new level of 3 dimensional thinking to traverse. Not to mention the vastly updated textures ( due to not having to redesign the base area, and instead focusing on refining said area ). I really wish I saw less unconstructive criticisms without offering any alternative (AKA complaining just to complain), especially those that are based in ignorance. My personal gripe about the game itself was the lack of individuality for the sages. I hope they go into greater detail about them, and draconification in general in a DLC or maybe even a third installment in this series. Alternatively, connecting each sage to a corresponding memory of Zelda's pertaining to their individual areas could have been done to avoid story spoilers while also maintaining a non linear model.
But, I'm not a Dev and I guess I just think that people are far too critical sometimes and don't stop to appreciate the vast amount of work that goes into this stuff. I challenge anyone to write even the simplest functional code and then say this game is just a DLC
The depths is literally just an inverted surface map with the exact same aesthetic throughout the entire map.. the structures are all copy and past… the sky islands are all copy and past. They are small, empty and boring additions. I mean adding a civilization to the sky and underground woulda went a long way. But then again those civilizations woulda been super small just like the other villages on the surface. You can count the number of people per race in a village. Pretty small for this huge map.
Given how much Nintendo does listen to their fans I was astonished that we still can't pet the dogs
Lol i don’t understand why people want to pet a dog in a game 😂
@@SharpShadow7yeah. Of all the things nintendo needs to fix with the last 2 installments people are worried about petting a dog.. the future of the franchise is at risk.
The timeline could just be a simple explanation of that botw and totk world takes place in the "past timeline" in Skyward Sword, after Demise's defeat.
It explains how there is both a Skyward Sword and Master Sword.
Depths needed more environmental variety like crystal caverns or cobwebbed ruins, & its own roster of enemies. Amibo gear from the last game being in most of the chests was kind of disappointing too
They could have really differentiated the shrines by just creating a few template themes and randomizing, rather than just reusing the same technological theme 156 times or whatever the number is
If im not mistaken most if not all connections between barbarians and zonai were fan speculation due to them both being related to the faron region
My theory about Tears of the Kingdom's past is that this is NOT the original founding of Hyrule. I think it actually takes place after an apocalyptic event I like to call the Great Convergance which caused the timeline to merge and it was only after that did this Hyrule be created by mixing all the others into one. However, it didn't have overarching effects, especially on the Royal Family who fell out of power, and the Zonai who just suddenly appeared from the air. However, people learned to adjust to this and eventually, Rauru became the leader of this Hyrule but he and his sister were still treated as outsiders somewhat so he decided to marry Sonia who was a descendant of the fallen Hyrulean Royal Family.
This theory basically comes from the fact that according to Creating a Champion no Gerudo male has been born for 10000 years due to Calamity Ganon and Ganondorf still being alive, the ancient hero appearing to be some kind of Hylian/Zonai mix, all the former amiibo-only sets now being in the game proper, and the fact that Ganondorf says to Rauru that he's taken a Hyrulean woman as his wife not just a Hylian woman.
My biggest complaint about ToTK is there are some conversations that make it feel more like a separate game than a direct sequel to BoTW. I love the game to death and it's one of my favorites but if I had a complaint it would definitely be that
My issue is mainly with the difficulty in triggering sage abilities. It’s far too extraneous!
The thing I hated most about TotK, was the fuse ability, at least kind of. The thing I hate is how normal weapons were just rendered completely invalid, via being damaged by gloom. I am a fan of blades and stuff and was disappointed by how I had to glue a stick and a rock together to make a weapon and not just have swords I can find. In my opinion I just felt like the implementation of the fuse power has great potential and obvious benefits to using it that could have been accomplished without completely nerfing the "real" weapons. But I completely ynderstand why they went the route they did and the system works well.
I'd say the Reuse of the existing map is still the worst part of the game, the new areas are fun, but the sky islands are most floating shrines and a brand new map would be far more exciting than seeing whats new on the old one.
Pretty much agree with most of the points here, except L&Z's relationship.
There's no evidence that they live together. In fact, most of the evidence suggests that Link conducts his affairs elsewhere, such as the Hateno villager's lack of familiarity with Link, references to Zelda's house (not Link's), and Link's legendary status amongst the central Hyrule soldiers. The devs left a smattering of other minor hints as well which I've discussed ad nauseum elsewhere.
L&Z's few interactions also suggest that they're not in a formal relationship. They may be more than close friends, but it's clear nothing has been formally agreed to. Their reactions to each other at game end are a perfect example, and there are a few other subtle hints left by the devs.
I do wish Nintendo was a bit more explicit on the subject instead of just leaving it to the player to believe what they want. I think it makes for better storytelling and greater immersion.
Judging by Nintendos track record it seems they like to ship link with fish. First Ruto, now mipha, and now Sidon. Wouldn’t be surprised in the next one if links love is a Hyrule Bass or something
All this confusion is why I stick to the re-establishment theory, especially since the nature of the evil plaguing Hyrule is so cyclic in nature.
my biggest gripe is how you use the sage abilities so much so I dont use them at all, except for Tulin, Tulin is cool
it gives us 3 times the amount of things to see and do.. goty contender for sure
3 times more stuff to do compared to botw. But compared to other games in the series it fails in comparison. Quality over quantity. Massive collect missions like koroks and gems and wells and signs have zero depth compared to meaningful side quests in previous games.
Ceave did a really extensive 1.30h review of TotK and I perfectly agree.
The biggest issue I have with tears of the kingdom is just how many blessing shrines there are. I don't feel that moving a rock from one place to another is a good enough puzzle to replace a fully fleshed out shrine.
Shrines are one of the worst additions to the franchise imo. It means developers make a lot of mediocre shrines instead of working on meaningful and fulfilling dungeons. I mean.. flip 5 levers and that’s it. No puzzles or keys or head scratching or anything like that. Map literally marks where the switches are in the dungeons. I’d rather have a smaller amount of mini dungeons and more larger in depth dungeons. Similar to the bottom of the well from oot. Shorter than dungeons but in depth and have independent lore in their own right.
@itsmunah1241 I absolutely agree with that. But if we must have shrines I would definitely prefer them to be more fleshed out. And for some reason in my playthrough it didn't mark the location of the gongs in the fire temple which was a refreshing return to form but I think it was just a glitch 🤔 I'm not sure lol
I'm just want to be able to swim underwater ngl 😩
I didnt like the temples either. Any of the Divine Beasts were better than these 4 temples. The 4 divine beasts were worse than these 4 temples though. Vairety is key for that. But still, as temples they were super lackluster. It was way more fun reaching them than completing them.
Haven’t played this yet but I’ll watch this video anyways seeing I’ll probably use this as an appetizer for the game. I respect the grind you you put into your channel. Thanks for the follow on IG! I’ll be around and binging your stuff 😎 Take care!
kaepora gaebora (the owl from ocarina of time) is not rauru. he's a reincarnation of a different, previous sage
First off it’s a reestablishing of Hyrule Kingdom it was refounded near the end of the timeline only way it works also it’s a different Ganondorf not OOT Ganondorf.
Worst:
-The sage abilities are garbage straight up, other than Tulin. Even worse, they clog up the screen and are just obnoxious. By far the worst part of the game, and actually a pretty large downgrade from the purity of BotW.
-Agreed that the temples are temples/dungeons in name only. Very underwhelming. Yes, they’re an improvement over BotW, but that’s not saying much.
-The story being told in memories is still lame.
-The old Sheikah Slate abilities being removed.
Best:
-The creativity in the gameplay and new abilities is almost staggering in its possibilities and freedom.
-Attention to detail, but also the beauty of the simplicity of Hyrule’s world.
I miss your videos!!
What happened to the channel
I disagree with the Temple part. Aside from the Water Temple and the Construct Factory/Spirit Temple (which was kinda saved by the boss), every dungeon is amazing. Especially the Lightning Temple which is honestly one of my 3 favourite dungeons in a Zelda game ever. (Sky Keep and Tower of the Gods are better and I personally like the Lightning Temple more than the Temple of Time from TP). Also you can obviously cheese every dungeon, but where’s the fun in that. You could also theoretically travel everywhere with a hoverbike, use a rocket/flower bomb shield to complete half the shrines and use an interactive map to find every lightroot/shrine. You could do this, but the point of open world games is playing the games in the way you enjoy them, so setting limits for yourself like navigating through the dungeons and shrines normally and moving through the world normally should be standard. Obviously you should f*ck around with the mechanics a bit if you want to enjoy this game to the fullest, but I personally only that in the overworld and not in shrines or main story sections.
Aesthetically they were more pleasing than botw. Gameplay wise they were some of the worst in the franchise beside botws divine beasts. I want more than flipping 5 switches that are marked on the map for you.
Pretty much the same list as yours. As far as the dungeons, I feel like that was their first iteration on a proper dungeon. With how vast they made the depths and surface levels of the game, they might have been running out of space?
Flip 5 levers marked on the map you were automatically given.. worst dungeons in the franchise next to botw “dungeons” if you even want to call them that.
@@_itsmunah I totally agree!!! Not too mention they give you the tools to really cheese on how to get there!
Nice video.
Underwater is my only complaint.
Tears Of The Kingdom is a good game but it has no ice themed dungeon just like Skyward Sword
Well, i'd like to say first off the price of the game was ridiculous. I expected to pay that when it comes with a book. But happened to wait a whole month just to get. The book is ridiculous, but my number one complaint is. I buy the machine I buy all the games. I do everything I'm supposed to. And then Nintendo takes control of my machine and won't let me play The Game unless I download. I wanted to keep the 1.1.2 I think it was but no, it won't let me play the game unless I download it. I don't like them holding my machine hostage. I think it's unfair. That's all I have to say. I love my Zelda, but it's getting harder and harder to play.
I disconnected mine from the internet. Airplane mode and auto downloads off. I’m still on version 1.0
I will never understand the Zelda UA-camrs infatuation with underwater exploration.. I've been playing Nintendo since the 80s and water levels are always annoying. Maybe the best they were able to do was Majora's mask when you had the Zora mask. One of my favorite features of breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom is no underwater exploration 🙂
No. it isn't you just need to get good
@@L8RSTORMSome people have thalassophobia. Despite having both Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask the years both came out, I didn’t finish either until YEARS later. Why? Because water.
And also spiders, but that’s beside the point.
So…where has Jesse been? It’s been 3 months and no word. Not here, or his Twitter.
Where's this guy been?
Hi Jesse
Awesome a video
Glad you enjoyed it
Played this all the way up to the Gannon fight and just stopped 🤷🏾♀️ its hugely underwhelming and shouldnt have taken them six years just to make botw again but this time with more bullshit to distract you. 😒 like idk i was expecting more new interesting new content rather what feels like a copy and paste of botw with more meaningless shit that doesnt add to the adventure.
Wow this game was so disappointing that Jesse went back to his normal life and ran away from Zelda tubing, mad respect bro!
However did want to check up on you and hope to hear from you soon!
This game really was disappointing
to me, gripes about the timeline are an issue of people making themselves unhappy. it's clear to me that the developers see the timeline incredibly loosely, as something to play with rather than rigidly adhere to. it's clear to me that this is a multiverse situation, or maybe a situation where the line between history and ~legend~ becomes blurry. who knows which of the games actually happened and which is just a story? it doesn't matter; they all are ultimately just stories. you can enjoy the games and their stories a lot better if you just let the developers have their freedom and creativity. themes are repeated, elements are referenced; the games aren't locked in rigid sequence but rather freeform rhyme with each other.
I gotta be honest with everyone, but TOTK just didn't do it for me. Especially after waiting 6 years for what felt to me (IMO) more of the same. In 6 years I would have rather a new game on a new console.
It's a good video game but it might have been better for me if I had never played BOTW first.
Ohh and the "dungeons" were disappointing.
Anyways good to see you back Jess!
Best thing... Where do I begin?
Worst thing: Why can we still not pet dogs, and where are the cats?
I don’t even want to compare with breath of the wild….I really want to burn the switch such a pathetic game.
BotW was better
also, rauru sucks
Am I still in the Discord server?
sorry i know you are a great zelda fan and i admire you 4 that but im really dissapointed
link with a parachute in breath of the wild just like in skyward sword and a cellphone and the cellphone create bombs and stops time, how that works i hate this new era just because of cellphones why nintendo did that in a zelda game
the last good zelda game is a remake of links awakening for the switch and before that is a link between worlds on the 3ds
the story of those games arent good and the music is boring and horrible they did that to save money why they dont compose new music
breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom are a bad games the franchise is hurt by those games and NINTENDO is making a bad moves with those games and they kick mr Charles Martinet and im mad as hell and nobodys care about it
played breath of the wild and dont like it that game is a horrible zelda game just like skyward sword and never gonna play tears of the kingdom
