All these years on from making the video and your still helping people such as myself, thank you so much! You really have done a great job of breaking this down step by step and managed to fit so much info into this keeping it watchable, none of the usual baffling or out of focus cameras either. Once again thank you !
Those engines are an incredible peaces of engineering! I drove one Defender 110 for about 650000 km then the technology new cars appear! It was parked up since 2006 engine still run today (we are talking about a 110 build in 1996)Talking about diesel engine ...our 300 TDI engine is most probably the one for critical situation(agriculture fields )God knows how long an engine like that will run! Super video! Thank you guys!
Cheers for the comment. I like the 200tdi above all the smaller diesel for its grunt on acceleration. It was a welcome change from indirect injection diesels that were awkward to start in cold weather.
that was a really good video. I don't even own a Land Rover but that is one of the most informative videos I've watched. Clear Good dialogue and graphics. Well done.
Im finaly at this stage after rebuiding my 200 Awesome video explain much easier then the manual :) and Finally my cheap ass torque wrench has a use for the belt :)
At 21:48 in the video you mention the valve clearence , how much is needed? But then when yiu tighten the rocker shaft up you just seem to push them down until they touch? I'm a little confused, any help would be much appreciated! Thanks, Rich
Valve clearance is 0.20mm. some valves will be pushed down when the rocker shaft when fitted ... please watch this video on adjusting valve clearances for the 4 cylinder Land Rover Engines ua-cam.com/video/Yv6d0E1p2_k/v-deo.html
Hi, might have missed it but how do you know the cam shaft pulley is in the right position? Is that white dot & the casting web, (looks at about 8:00 o'clock on the cam pulley) the timing mark? Sorry for not paying attention properly.
At 2:07 in the video...what is the name of the part that he is spinning with his left hand? and where the hell can i purchase one? I've been looking all over for weeks
Thanks for your fantastic videos mate...very clear and precise, I wonder if you know of any other way I could get the flywheel in the correct spot when setting up the timing as my 200 engine is fitted in a Series 3 unfortunately there is a big square X member right under where the locking pin screws in with very little clearance. Nick.
Yes indeed same here but with a 300tdi in a series. I assume that setting the crank key to its mark is sufficient. Is your landy still running ten years on?
great video, my van has possibly just had a cambelt failure, will find out after the weekend, im preying its not as it just cost me £800 to get it through the mot last week. :-(
Very well made video! I'm interested in buying a 200tdi here in new Zealand, however I have never had any Landrover vehicle experience. Was wondering if you have any precautions or recommendations I should take when purchasing and/or maintaining a landrover 200tdi?
If I’m wanting to swap the casings from a defender 200 onto a disco Would it be visa me to time up the disco Then remove parts and put on the the casing ?
Apprezzato dagli esperti e dai professionisti.
TF, thanks for the wonderful videos as always. What is your perspective on using aftermarket tapper assembly? I have head that rollers sometimes wear asymmetrically on some of the aftermarket brands. Can individual parts be replaced on the tappet instead of a whole? I am redoing the top end of the Defender 200TDI, any help will be much appreciated.
+mightymikee I think it comes down to you get what you pay for. Internals it may pay to be very choosy when buying parts. anything external can be replace fairly quickly so theoretically can be brought cheaper. Do you get my way of thinking?
+Land Rover Toolbox Videos I hear you. Do you replace the tappet assembly as a whole? Is it ok if I just replace the bronze component by itself? One more question, the fuel pump gear, I see that I can be adjusted a little, do you have a video on how to adjust the fuel pump? Thanks!
Tappet slider replacement depends on wear of the other components but it is possible to do that FIP pump setting ua-cam.com/video/9h55ym1sp1s/v-deo.html
i am battling to refit my new timing belt as it won't slip over the fuel pump gear, i tried refitting the old belt and it goes on perfect, i have tried loosening the fuel pump bolts as explained int he dvd. when comparing the old and new belt they appear to be the same size. On your dvd the tensioner is different, my tensioner has dowel so to speak goes under the idler pulley and locks when the idler is tightened.
***** Hi i tried that, but didn't work, i got it on by removing the fuel pump gear and fitting it on with the gear, still battled but managed to slip over. Everything was fine for the past week and engine and fuel pump is timed perfect, but now there is a rattling noise coming from what i think is the dust cover plate that fits on the crank pulley, i did tap it down into place on the pulley but i think it has come a bit loose, can i remove that plate? i dont see a need for it besides for dust, dirt etc...
Len Van Rooyen Hi again, sorry to hear you are struggling. Happens sometimes. Must be the nature of the beast......With regards to the dust shield....It would be better off the vehicle if you can't secure it properly.
No welded on...but the inspection hole is worth looking into...no pun intended.... Can you get away with just using the TDC mark in the flywheel housing ????
You didn't answer my question. I suggest you do you homework then come back to me and explain what the differences are and why you are telling us that this engine in the video is a 300tdi. Telling us why black is white without any explanation to why you are confused doesn't help anyone. I will explain that there are 300tdi parts in the video but the main engine with the green cylinder block seen is the 200tdi engine.
All these years on from making the video and your still helping people such as myself, thank you so much! Thank you! 10 years later and you're still helping.
You have a way of telling us exactly what we have to do to get the job done. Best I have ever seen. good job mate.
Thank you.
I'm pretty confident to tackle my 200tdi after watching this tutorial, cheers mate

Thanks for the video series! When does the camshaft pulley bolt get torqued?
What is the name of the tool you used to show belt tension please mate?

take the bolt out of the adjuster and let it drop enough to get the belt on.

Ah good. Everything is okay now.
Are these all imperial sockets ?
Do you do Any Freelander 1 stuff?
Is the process the exact same for a 200tdi defender engine ?
Yes it is.
Grand job, thank you
your welcome.

www.steveparkers.com/conversions/
Excellent video but please lose the music in the background. It's a distraction & competes with what youa re trying to get across
