I'm 75 years old and just got my first laser engraver this week . All I can say is Thank God you are there.
Awesome! 👍 Thanks for watching!
Totally agree, Iam 77 and just got mine. Also got a C& C machine, gotta stay busy and active.
I am 75 also and just starting...Thank You
OMG you are a god sent for creating such a wonderful website! Thank you for all your hard work.
Thanks for watching and commenting Sam!
Thanks! You are a life saver. Just got the LM3 and had no idea where to start.
Wow! Thank you so much! I appreciate the Support Twana!
Thanks!
You're welcome! Thanks so much for the support! 👍
Thank you Rich. Truly a wealth of information and resources, beautifully presented
It's all about sharing Julio!
This is not just your hobby...it's your PASSION. I'm new to laser engraving and purchased a Comgrow Z1 10w based on lots of research including your review. I had no idea how complex yet simple using lightburn would be. Without this resource I would have spent countless, frustrated, and long hours trying to get it right. This is so amazing. I have woodworking experience and spent a fair amount of time on inkscape developing patterns for the scrollsaw. May the Lord bless you for your willingness to freely share and the dedication you have put into this resource, as well as, this channel. What an amazing gift. Thank you seems so inadequate, yet what else can I say but THANK YOU!!!
Wow! Thanks so much! Woodworking is my other hobby.
Thanks!
Welcome! Thanks so much for the support! 👍
Thank you!! So many UA-cam videos overcomplicate laser content but you have a way of simplifying the process for the average beginner. Thank you so much for what you do
Glad it was helpful! Thanks so much!
Sir, I’m so new to this arena that I haven’t even been born yet. I felt like I’d become an armchair expert before purchasing my laser just by watching your channel. You are a true blessing and it’s evident in this video alone. The thousands of hours you, undoubtedly, put into providing these resources in such detail is amazing. I can’t wait to get started exploring, learning and creating because you have truly inspired me. ❤Thank you so much.
Wow, thank you Patricia!
Has inspire so many !!! Thank you 🙏
I just received my first laser for Christmas. I didn’t know where to start. Thanks to you I have a fighting chance. Thank you for your slow pace teaching
You got this! Have fun!
You Rock!!!!!!! I love just browsing around your website! It is so informative. Thank you so much for blessing us with this resource. I will be donating to your cause!!
You are so welcome! Thanks for the support!
Fabulous contribution to the community. I am a lab technician at a school in Tasmania and I help teach high school students. You have eased the learning curve for me incredibly and this in turn is making it easier for my students. we are laser cutting parts for submersible ROV's and Model solar cars. students are seeing the benefits of both additive and subtractive manufacturing at a level that gives them an advantage when looking for jobs when leaving school. So thank you Rich you are making a difference.!
Wow, thank you Derek! Keep up the good work!
Thank you for doing this video explanation. And appreciate how genuinely patient you are in explaining the what and why along with the important HOW. Keep the excellent work up. I'm going to put to use everything you explained.
Awesome! 👍 Thanks for watching Steven!
THANK YOU for the work you've put into this. I just downloaded lightburn and am ordering the neje 3 max next week and donating to you site. Watching your videos has really made a difference.
Glad I could help Stephen!
Just became a member of the forum. Been trying to learn my laser for a while now. I appreciate you sir.
Welcome Aboard Josh! 👍
Thank you so much for all of your hard work and willingness to share with the community.
You bet! 👍
Thank you SO MUCH for this video and site. I've only had my laser for a few days and have really struggled getting into lightburn and engraving. This helps and I feel like I understand enough to take off now. THANK YOU!
You're very welcome!
Thanks again Rich! I review most of your vids from time to time especially before starting a project I haven't run in a while.
Great to hear!
Love the channel. This video explained a lot to me.
Maybe I'm the only one using Lightburn on more than one computer--one in my shop and the other for designing at work far away. Lighburn's license allows up to two computers--and three if you ask nicely. I used your folder structure and put my libraries in my Microsoft OneDrive folder so the same libraries are available where ever I am and i can work seamlessly. This would work the same for Google Drive if that is your preferred cloud storage.
And one other benefit is you get a cloud backup of your files! Keep up the good work!!
Good suggestion Tim! I have a NAS, so that's not an issue for me.
Thank's Rick, new to this laser printing, you make things so much easier with your tutorials. With regards to the libraries, I followed everything but then was looking in the wrong libraries. Your detailed explanation and video helped me out tremendously. Nobody does it better! Thanks again.
Glad to help Marty!
I want yo start off by saying thank you for this! You're making this a lot less threatening for a complete newbie. I've been binge watching all of your videos all this week trying to learn as much as possible.
Glad I could help!
You are amazing and self-less in your willingness do these videos as you say to "inspire.. create.. learn.. teach.. help someone today." You have helped and continue to help and inspire me. Thank you so much for all your time and effort you put into and have put into everything!
Wow, thank you Ben! I appreciate that! 👍
Im just getting started with my OLM 3.

Thank you for all your time and effort.
Glad I could help Mike!
Just started watching while waiting for my laser. You said you were at IBM in the 70s in the PC division. More than likely you knew people my dad worked with or even worked with him. Crazy small world.
Wow, interesting! I don't recall the last name but we really didn't use them. We all used nicks or first names; mostly nicks.
Rich, you are phenomenal! I just received my Xtool D1 and Lightburn...you have helped me immensely. The learning curve is slightly steep for this old dog, but you have helped open up a world of creativity for me. Thank you.
Fantastic Tim! Glad to hear it! 👍
Rich, thank you for your, relaxed information filled videos. I purchased an engraver a couple of years ago, played around with it and put it away. I am looking forward to getting to know my engraver and also my new CNC, I was not aware of the capabilities of Lightburn. Cheers, I will be checking and looking forward to more of your content
Great to hear Michael!

Just discorvered this channel and the forum. Brilliant resource for someone like me who's completely new to this hobby. Subscribed and looking forward to waqtching the other videos on the channel.
Welcome to the obsession! 🤪
New Subscriber here, also to the Forum, So glad I have found your channel, as I am new to lightburn, and Lasers in general. But I have so many questions, Like i was wondering why you cannot set different materials and their settings etc, and found your video which explained it clearly and precisely, which i respect, 3 videos so far and i have learnt more than any other of the lightburn videos out there. You sure seem to be a fountain of knowledge. And will save this being just another hobby that goes by the wayside through boredom, with what seems like endless possibilities for projects and ideas. So Thank You.
Wow! Thanks so much for that! I created this channel to help a few friends and it's grown into a full time hobby for me. So many people drop out of the hobby before really understanding all of the possibilities and the joy it brings! This is one of the most satisfying hobbies I have ever had, and if spending all this time creating videos saves just one person from dropping out, it's worth it! It's a good feeling to know that my simple lessons have made tens of thousands of people happy with the gifts they received from Makers like you! For some, it's even lifechanging! Thanks for the sub! And welcome to the obsession! 🤪
Thank you for all you do..I registered earlier today and look forward to dive right in; unfortunately I can't do much during the week because there is a place I have to go to that keeps my paychecks lol...
Awesome! Welcome aboard Jill! 👍
Hey Rich, You truly are the best! When you get into something like lasers , its a very specific interest and It not like you can just go down to your local laser shop and find a community to learn from or to resolve issues etc. For this reason your channel is invaluable, and the fact that you actually respond to us all is just amazing!!! Thankyou !
Wow, thanks Kennie! Comments are important to me. I feel like y'all are my friends even though we haven't met.
Rich, too new to ask intelligent questions yet, so I will spend my time absorbing what you are showing, and thanks again for all the time and effort you have expended in helping others. Just retired as well and looking forward to Laser usage and CNC as well.

Glad to help Mark.
Thanks for sharing your years of knowledge and hard work. I just got my new xtool d1 pro 20w/IR combo also got the rotary attachment. I joined your forum and look forward to trying my hand at making one of your designs. Thanks again for helping take some of the "work" out of it, so I can get straight to burning stuff. lol
Awesome! 👍 Thanks for watching!
Unrelated, but your comment about working for IBM in the late 70s jarred some memories. I operated many of the IBM machines in the early 70s (sorters, interpreters, reproducers, 407 accounting machine, etc. and punched/verified 1000s upon 1000s of Hollerith cards. Probably few of us left that knew what those holes meant. :)
Can you imagine seeing a modern cellphone back then Wayne? It amazes me how many things from Star Trek and the Jetson's have become reality in our lifetime! I saw they just launched a Jetson's like drone car recently!
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy And Dick Tracy's watch. Our shipboard hi-tech was a Sperry/Univac 1500 with a teletype as a keyboard, and IBM keypunch/verify machines. 90% of my work on the keypunch was using the numeric keys, so my muscle memory still reverts back to the placement of those keys which are reversed from today's numeric keypad on the keyboards. It messes with my brain. Oh well... I'll stop waxing nostalgic.
I really appreciate your videos. I have an Aufero Laser 1 on its way and want to learn as much as I can before it gets here and this old brain needs your kind of detailed explanations.
Thanks for the video, I had the same question about not being able to load files to Lightburn now I know why. Many thanks, I will be watching a lot more
Glad I could help!
Newbee here. You are awesome. Wish I had found your information a month ago but your information is so helpful, Just can't say enough. Great that you explain in such detail and that you do it live. How about that sharing of the Libraries etc. So cool! Thank you!
You are so welcome! Thanks!
A very succinct tutorial on Lightburn libraries. As usual Rich you've captured the essence of the subject masterfully. I believe you are by far the best Lightburn educator on UA-cam. The LHG forums are a really great resource for info too. I check it out frequently and try to answer questions whenever I have something to add. Thanks for the video!

I skipped a step... Sometimes one needs to stop and start lightburn for things to work.
I've never had to Seth.

Glad it helped James!
Thank you! Just a quick question... are there now libraries for the Creality Falcon 12w? Thanks again!
Not that I know of.
Hello Rich, I'm new to your channel. I have a channel as well but it's for a completely different hobby but, we still share some of the same hobbies. I'm new to the laser hobby but I am not new to cnc. I have a cnc plasma cutting table and cnc carving (router) machine and seven 3d printers. I've recently purchased a new laser (Sculpfun S9) and I am still learning to use it and Lightburn. I am a designer and still somewhat of a quick learner in my older age. I have been using cad programs for years. I've used other programs similar to Lightburn but more complicated. All of the design programs I use for cnc, whether it's for carving or 3d printers are very similar in that they use layers. I've been watching several of your video's and really enjoy watching you. You move at a pace that makes it were anyone can learn. I've watched other UA-camrs video's and some of them go through things so quickly you have to watch it several times to understand it. I subscribed to your channel and joined your forum. I look forward to watching your video's to continue learning about laser cutting and using Lightburn. Thanks for your videos & art files and keep up the good work,, (Dan) Chief Drone
Welcome aboard Dan! Good to have you! I wish I had more time for the CNC.
Thanks for revisiting libraries, great, concise information Rich.
My pleasure Rob! Thanks for watching!
Exactly what I was looking for. Appreciate your great work and research that you're putting into all of this.
Glad it was helpful Andreas!
Rich i have tried from several of your videos to down load and print the Lightburn shortcut sheet. Whether I print regular or mirrored it prints in reverse. How can I get a clean readable copy? Thanks.
You can try and print it directly from the Lightburn website Tom.
Utterly brilliant videos and content. Registered on forum. Thanks

🙂I love all you do and appreciate all the information you provide. I was hoping to see the Air Force Graphic used in the video as part of the Military art download. As a retired Air Force Member, that is what I was hoping to find 🙂 Thank you for all the great info you share. (I used to live in Alexandria, LA)
It's on my free forums. lahobbyguy.com/bb in the members only download section Ron.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I grabbed the military file and no Air Force graphics in it. Lots of Navy and Army.

Thanks very much Rich!! Minstrels will write songs about you! I'm 5 days into my Laser CNC journey and feel like you just teleported me about a year down the road! If there was a Mount Rushmore of Laser expertise....you'd be on there!
I have a Jinsoku LC-60 A (Sainsmart) which seems to be an excellent machine for the money (time will tell) and there's not much on the forum re: Sainsmart products so I may be able to start a post re: those machines. But its effectively the same power as the Ortur Laser Master Pro...5.5 watt output. Hopefully I can add some value!
Thanks again!
I have an LC-60 John, and it's a fine machine! Pretty sure the diode is 6W, slightly stronger than the OLM2 Pro.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy hey Rich! It is a 5.5 watt on the LC60 A…just curious if you’re planning a review of that unit? Seems to be great so far, but one issue that you might be able to point me in the right direction….when I engrave a ‘grid’ or a ‘template outline’ on my spoil board, the ‘Y’ axis lines are perfect, but ‘X’ axis lines have a little up and down irregularity?? Not wavy, more like short vectors that subtly change direction ( +\- like 0.5 mm) not wildly off but has to be a way to tweak? All my images and graphics seem to be perfect and unaffected, but weird why ‘X’ axis straight lines aren’t straight. Thanks in advance for giving this a read! And for your amazing channel/forum/assistance!!
Best,
John
@@johnsherwood3213 The only thing I can think of would be a hardware issue. I don't see any eccentric nuts on mine so I’m at a loss on what it could be. I’m not having that problem at all.
Thanks for the video, i saw that your mode selection in lightburn is totally different from mine. Mine only has Line, Fill and Offset.. Do you perhaps know how i can add more modes to my lightburn. I'm using Algolaser DIY KIT 10W..
That was on an older version of Lightburn.
I have really enjoyed your lesson. You should consider doing so radio voice over work.
Thanks so much!
Thanks Rich, We appreciate all your lessons and files..... I now have a huge library.
Wonderful! Now get making and show it off on my forums! 😎

Hi Rich, is there a Library for a 22w Diode?
Yep
Your Videos are incredible ! What you are doing is invaluable to the laser community. Im coming from the hobby CNC world. Getting really interested in purchasing a laser. You are the Man Rich !
Wow, thanks!
Thank you, very helpful.
Glad it was helpful William!
Thank you this was so very helpful. I do have a question thou. If I make my own art files what do I save them as is there a specific format to save them as (png, svg, jpeg etc) and 2 will I be able to save them in the art files like you did the ones in this video? TIA
You can save any file on the work bed into a library, it becomes a digital Lightburn file in whatever format it was.
