Can German Skynex Air Defense Systems Prevail in Ukraine?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 вер 2024
- The Skynex is a short-range air defense system, which was introduced during the 35mm Air Defence Systems Group event in 2021. The core of this air defense system is the Oerlikon Skymaster Battle Management System, which serves as the control node. It allows for the modular integration of various sensors and effectors, tailored to meet specific mission requirements. The Skynex system features a truck-mounted version and is specifically developed with lightweight and mobile design. Therefore, the Skynet system is particularly well-suited for short- and very-short-range air defense capabilities, where guided missiles may be ineffective. The standard version of Skynex can engage various threats, including aircraft, cruise missiles, tactical drones of varying sizes, air-to-ground missiles, as well as mortars and artillery rockets, at distances up to 2.5 miles. This feature makes Skynex an optimal solution for safeguarding critical stationary assets like military and civilian infrastructures, including airfields, military bases, harbors, bridges, and nuclear power plants, against aerial attacks in diverse weather conditions, both day and night.

Folks, you have an international audience!
Would you mind bury the antiquated US measuring system and go metric?
2 Skynex cost EUR 182M! Wow! 😮
Money laundry 101
It's more than just two trucks with cannons on top. A "system" includes a truck to mount the cannon, the cannon itself, a separate station that fires anti-missiles, a tracking radar and a bunch of computers to coordinate between the weapons, plus rather specialized ammunition.
Plus, this thing isn't just firing shells. Every projectile is programmed on the fly to explode at a given distance to the target - a distance that changes constantly as the target moves.
SO yeah. 90 million is expensive, but considering what you get for it....?
2 systems, not 2 guns.
thats several guns on trucks central firecontol radar battle management missile launcher container amunition delivery training etc, PER SYSTEM !
Now that's proper... Probably best drone defence tool I've seen
Imagine buying two of these for 192 million $ and then they get destroyed by a bunch of 500$ drones with an rpg ductaped to it
"they get destroyed by a bunch of 500$ drones with an rpg ductaped to it"
Unlikely a drone could get any close, this thing can shoot out artillerie round so a drone should be easy.. (unless they drone don't show on radar?)
@@anteeko a single drone is no problem but more like a swarm of 100-200 drones least one is most likely going to make it through, as they said the range of this gun is 2.5 miles with guided programmable airburst ammo. Within the time it takes to destroy the other drones, at least some may get past the defense and strike the target. One of these suicide drones costs around 500-1000$ so 200 of them would be 100-200k $. Using 100-200k $ worth of drones to destroy a 192 million dollars system would be extremely cost effective
You don't have imagine it, we will see it soon.
Patriot air defense systems cost and lost in Kiev is much higher 😂😂😂
That why war is big business
Imagine, you created a thing called human, you build during 18 years and then a bullet costing 50 cents destroys that thing...Brhhhh!!!
I've seen a lancet destroy a geppard. How's this any different. And the outrageous cost? 😭
They are not trying to learn any lessons, just sell some units on a juicy contract. To them, it's not war, it's a business opportunity.

Juicy target, ofc unless a lacet doesn't do the job first, like with the Iris.
The whole battery costs 182 million also Germany nearly 4 times the GDP per capita as Russia.
182 million euros for just two? Damn this is expensive as hell. That's a lot for a pair of close in weapons systems. A C-Ram for example costs 4 million $.
1 Skynex System does not mean 1 cannon. Should be 4 Trucks with 35mm Cannons in each system. So 182 million for 8 Trucks.
@@HansPeters1234 8 C-Rams would still be much less expensive
skynex includes way more than just these 8 trucks with mounted 35mm guns. Its not a cheap system but outperforms c-ram by a lot^^@@artiomvv569
Depends what they mean by a single system. It can be 6 cannons and one control station per system. Still, way, way, way too expensive. 20 Lancet 5 swarm attack drones is around 1m.
@@tomk3732 fpv drones are even much cheaper than lancets. I have another comment where I discussed the use of fpv drones as a way to overpower these V-SHORAD/CIWS systems
Skynex may get overwhelmed by 50 small missiles
As well as the ineffective patriot system.
@BOM_NLD😂😂😂 there's the clueless Russian fanboy.
@@wstavis3135 well he's not wrong. The most sophisticated western missiles haven't changed the tide for Ukraine, while Russia can strike every square inch of Ukraine if they feel like it.

Is this another so called gamechanger ?
Ukraine should swallow their pride and go to the negotiating table and agree on a peace deal.
that's a big NO considering Rheinmetall won't make money when there is peace, Ukraine is a perfect replacement for Iraq and Afghanistan.
182mil for 2x skynex units????? That is ridiculously expensive
It shoots drones and artillery rounds in mid air. The people with IQ twice yours probably wouldn’t build or purchase this, if it wasn’t useful to them.
The U.S has a land based variant of the Phalanx called the Centurion c-ram (counter rocket artillery missile system)
Military TV: 🧐
Also Miliary TV: In our next video we take a look at and do a side by side comparison to the German made Skynex Air Defense System and the US made Centurion C-RAM.
they dont compare tbh
this german gun is much better. partly because of the larger projectile. raw physics dictates it goes farther, hits harder and can actually carry a payload.. the 2nd reason its better than Cram is the ahead ammo.
this thing will YEET the shit out of drones and kamikaze munitions.
Cram can do it too, but its not nearly as effective and wastes a ton of ammo trying to hit small targets.
...and it costs much less, $10M-$15M.
C-RAM is much more suitable solution for Russia's drone attacts.

Can Skynex destroy the Russian loitering drones that put down systems like IRIS-T and others? Or que will see the Russians destroying and studying the remainings of this system in few weeks from now?
Of course it gets destroyed in no time. What I want to know is why is Germany pushing so hard against Russians? Even though the USA and the UK are not close to what Germany is doing, they'll have serious troubles later.
Yes in theory, but with only 2 such systems in total, answer is no.

these will be fantastic at countering cruise missles and hopefully drones... but if even just one 30k lancet or Iranian drone gets through... that's 200m down the drain. it would have to down almost 7000 drones to be cost effective

Ukraine just a testing ground lol but just another target for lancet
It will be interesting to see how they are countered....
Very interesting. Good explanation!
Seems like a really good weapon vs pesky drones, but with protection radius of 2.5 miles you gotta need like 2 orders more of these systems to protect stuff in a current war. The area to defend is HUGE, the front line spans thousand of kilometers, Kiev, the most air protected capital, is 840 square kilometers. So - cool stuff, but two short-range units? Well, at least Rheinmetal can test those :)
They can shoot down even incoming artillery rounds, rocktes, everything in it's range. It's a completly automated system that should - If it works as claimed - protect from anything in the air, no matter what.
That beeing said, you are absolutely right. Way more of them are needed to realy make a difference.
But they are completly new. The system got only recently invented and made combat-ready.
So there litteraly aren't more in existance as those directly shipped to Ukraine.
Only if delivered Skynex are in large numbers that covers the entire front & networked with other air defense systems ( Patriot, Iris T & NASAMS ).
This war is one hell of a cash cow for the arms dealers and manufacturers and ammo.
Big big moneymaker.
@Paul-pz3us How true. Perhaps the world can now appreciate why the move to de-dollarize is being fought with such vigor by the G7. The west harvests money of the global south along with the others to fund all this military tech and the super yacht lifestyles that go with total domination. They (G7) aren't going to roll over and play nice just to appease the Third World. The US axis will simply push these people aside, like they did in Libya, Iraq and Syria(work in progress). There's just too much money (and power) at stake.
Cheaper then the little tyrant walking into the Baltics.
It is just an upgrade of the old but faithful Oerlikon 35mm anti-air canon system. It has gone out of fashion in the age of superfast jet fighter aircraft. But with the advent of the threat of slow aerial drone system and recent meteoric rise of it, this old anti-air gun is now hot again. It will be an indispensable component of modern mechanized armored force.
C-RAM with ABM ammunition has not much in common with old 35mm AA cannons.
Nah, it's something completly different then just an Oerlikon canon. Therefore the different name.
The next wonder weapon............will it end up like Bradley or Leopard.
Aha...we will see Drone footage how they burn also.
Portugal and Italy expecting their Leopard 2’s “returned” after the war? They should go retrieve it themselves in the mine-infested fields
They became scrap metal in the battlefield
For defense yes, to win the war? hell no.
First and foremost it should read: To protect lives? hell yeah!!!
@@dieterdodel835 The delivery of Western weapons to Ukraine only costs lives. The war had only lasted for a few weeks whitout it. Thousands of lives saved, ukraine not rubbled, no refugees, energy-crisis, inflation, resession etc...

A typical fixed wing air launch optical missile range is 8-9 miles at 15000 feet...so well outside this system gun range...Helicopters like the KA-52 shoots guided missiles from ~8 km which is 3-4 miles very low level...
it's only the last layer in the concept of layered air defence. A NASAMS or IRIS-T will take down the Helicopter from a longer distance. And for balistic missiles at the longest distance there still is Patriot.
@@webcrawler9782 The Patriot proved its ops. failure just now in UA and before that in Israel...
Besides the astronomical price the production bottleneck is also real...so it never became widespread asset not even in NATO countries...there is a 1600km wide frontline which would require 10 Patriot batteries...UA got 4-6...
About $95 million a piece! Where do they come up with these figures. This system should not cost more than $2- or $3 million each.
I was telling the usual people who all said Germany's military has terrible performance and issues (such as the G36 rifle small issue, which was fixed)- they really are a sleeper build that is ahead of the others. Others may critique or compare as if these things aren't quite good or needed, but are simply low iq..They don't realize how important it is to have electronic systems that mark friendly positions, enemy positions, and integrate everything into one system. These systems especially made by Rheinmetall and similar companies are impressive even on the public side. The US hasn't even integrated many of these systems yet, even if they do have many capable systems themselves; even as large as the US is, they are 'aware' of some of it, or due to deploy it, but haven't yet made it or distributed it themselves; their 'future infantry' upgrades are due in the next decades. Germany would surely be more effective than we think and even though much smaller in scale, they are many times ahead in electronics and futuristic tech that while some acknowledge it, lower IQs will continue to neglect it and say it's not needed. Yet some of these are 'already' quite better than the existing ones you are comparing them to. Sure it wouldn't be enough to stand alone against the top world militaries, their numbers and other weapons would win. But if they scaled up their numbers/personnel, using all German technologies, tanks, defense systems, then it would be a threat, or become ahead of the adversaries. They aren't as weak or as useless as you think, even with the armchair idea that they have small problems and inefficiencies; similar to huge novels written by armchair inexperienced nobodies that likely wasted gigabytes of bandwidth through the last decade, by losers debating about how T72s and some russian were 'good tanks' with 'secret capabilities' on them, until now in 2022-2023. Only some people 'get it', that's why Yugoslavia is the only group who shot down a US stealth bomber, etc. while Russia has yet to do it, and so on, even if that group no longer exists. However for all western nations, it's likely a model that is all about money, they aren't mass producing it for a war, but only to test it on a smaller scale anyway.
The most important ingredient in modern war is 'Human lives' so far there are humans to keep fueling the war the cost of weapons are a small significance.
Music in the background - source? Band? Anything plz.
Is it any better then the Gepard?.
NATO: 192$ millions for 2 Skynex system - AA gun, no missiles.
Russia: 26.30$ millions for 2 Pantsir-S1M system - AA gun, SAM, SRSAM (domestic price is even less, because this price is meant for export).

I'm thinking a week or two until a Lancet destroys one.
Lancet will hit them as they are being transported to Ukraine...
One Lancet drone is enough to destroy that skynex worth millions of dollars.
Que bonito, montaron un cañon de barco en un camion, próximamente un goalkeeper en un Iveco
At 100$ million a piece and a range of 2-3 miles, the Ukrainians would need 1000s to cover their huge front lines for effective drone control. Obviously this is not feasible so the effect of this pricey weapon is only felt in UA-cam and other morale boosting propaganda outlets. I guess that these units would likely be placed to protect very important Russian targets from attack (e.g., presidential palace, very strategic targets) etc.
Germany lost ww2 because its weapons were overcomplex junk. The russians will take it out with a few $40k drones. Clowns just don't understand basic economics. When war is done for profit, it is lost.

Not a defence system for attack on a jet fighter or fighter bomber! It's 2.5 km range which is 2500 metres could only be used on a slow low attack jet like the Su-25.
It's radar would be picked up and easily avoided.
You have no idea about integrated weapon systems, do you?
@@iiilllii140 I didn't make myself clear......the Su-34 & 35 have a highly effective EWD which deflects missiles off target at about 200 metres. So integrated or not it gets deflected if it's a missile! If the 34's came in low then it's possible that heavy machine gun fire could damage the plane.
To this date no wreckage has been presented of 34's or 35's being downed, a small number did make it back with damage. MOD did state one 34 crashed from mechanical failure no 35's whatsoever have been downed.
