My two sons accepted Jesus at a Petra concert that I took them to in the early 90's. Josh McDowell gave a mini sermon at the concert followed by an altar call. Both sons went forward and love Jesus still today. Thank you to both you and your father for your commitment to Christ. You have made a huge difference in this world.

36:07 THIS is what Ive recently come to understand as being the ONE thing that was a stumbling block for me: the fact that I was A) never taught what practical faith is, and even MORE detrimental, B) never SHOWN what practical faith in practice LOOKED like.
There was pressure to spend time in the Word, to pray, to be a student of the Bible, but it was never modeled for me and THAT has been the singular conviction for my parenting- not to just say what all these things are to be done, but actually walk thru the Bible reading, the praying, and the deeper studying WITH my son so that he doesn't have the desire but lacks followthru because of feeling overwhelmed.

Many people have conversations with people they agree with, but as soon as they talk to people they don't agree with, it turns into a debate. @SeanMcDowell is someone who is able to have conversations with both sides in a loving and charitable fashion. Great respect for that! My biggest problem when having these conversations is not that I feel attacked, but that I always hear the same weak arguments and it just makes me so sad that people miss out on knowing this amazing, loving, holy God because of superficial, copy paste slogans. I'm praying for both of your ministries. Thank you for your work! God bless!

My reason for leaving Christianity was because i saw all the infighting between the varios demoninations . Each throwing scripture at each other to prove they were the ones with Truth.
I found Christians real judgemental, impatient and down right rude .
I saw a lot of lip service and very little actually being done to heal people who are in sin.
I delved into the occult for while then had a great experience that lead me back .
I have returned to Christianity and have settled into the Catholic Church.
And do not be so amazed that we are in a great falling away , Jesus said this would happen. And He said the love of many will wax cold , and this I've seen even amongst Christianity.

@@vladgor4099 It's not an expectation to be perfect, it's that many Christians weaponize certain sins and not others and a lot of Churches are not welcoming to certain people.
I have a friend that's gay and she's married to a woman. People in our church had issues with them as a gay couple being there even though they didn't do anything to attract attention.
So basically, they wanted the gay couple to break up and be abstinent and not act on their attractions. They wanted some kind of work in place if they were going to welcome someone who is living in sin, even though we all do.
However, there were multiple fat people in that church that were living in the sin of gluttony. Most of whom were not on diets. Yet, they were more than welcome to the church even though they were living in their sin and not actively working to remedy them.
People would not be leaving as much if so many Christians weren't so hypocritical and judgmental.

The only disagreement I have with Sean is in relation to confidence in Christianity being true, rather than certainty. I’d say there’s a subjective certainty every Christian has when the power of the gospel transforms the heart and the promise of the new birth begins. When the Spirit of God bears witness with our spirit that we are children of the Father, that’s an experiential reality of a God-inspired proposition. However, I believe he is spot on with the church lacking a basic education in textual criticism. Making it accessible to the common man in the pews should be the aim.

Just a thought based on something profound brother McDowell said:
A lot of Christian’s won’t spend money in a place that funds or supports abortion. However, we forget that the money isn’t ours anyways and that we must be good stewards of it (Sean McDowell). He pointed out that oftentimes Christian’s won’t put money in a company that has a different political stance but rarely do we consider how we spend money interest place regardless of what the money goes towards. I’m convinced that it’s because of the so called “American dream” and how many Christian’s spend based on their devotion to conservative America rather than being devoted to a Holy God.

god see's what everyone does, and they will be held accountable. but the issue is, what am I going to do with christ, not what everyone else is doing. many people use the excuse that they reject christ because of hypocrites, but that wont save them on judgement day. each person will be held accountable only for what they did. the hypocrite argument is used a lot in order them to avoid dealing with their own sin. secondly, many people don't have a clue what a christian even is. mormons, catholics, moonies and others call themselves christians. lots of confusion.

You don't need anything dramatic or negative to happen to question or deconstruct beliefs in your life. You may feel like a good parent and maybe part of being a good parent is to question and deconstruct if you are truly a good parent or just believe that you are. Sometimes asking questions lets you know that you are doing fine, sometimes it lets you know some alterations are required, sometimes it lets you know you took a wrong turn and are headed the wrong way. Yes, disruptions in life almost demand questions, but even when it is smooth sailing, it is not uncommon to question the smooth sailing.

Told I didn't believe in Christ, that i was stupid, called names. I dont identify as a Christian, but I believe in Christ and that pattern is how i live my life. Only two people tried to talk to me and conversate. One of them ended up telling me on the phone "You're more Christian than people who actually call themselves Christian". its simple, people are ruining it for others. I think the crushing blow for my issues has been being told God doesn’t love everyone and being told it doesn’t matter how genuine iam because ultimately God decides if He wants to save me or not. I was fairly new in ny walk with the Lord 4 years ago. I was absorbing everything I could got confused on the meaning of a verse looked it up only got Calvinist answers. Starting thinking God didn’t actually choose me. I couldn’t confirm I was chosen and 4 years later I’ve been drowning in confusion. I now have OCD that I never had before and I’m still stuck waiting to understand it all I read the word every day still attend church but I’ve been feeling pretty empty and depressed and I know there will be someone who says feelings are unreasonable which I agree but that doesn’t help my confusion.

I think that the Reformed theology can be taught in simplistic ways that risk some people's faith. I'm sorry for your pain and painful doubts. Some people from within this tradition would probably assure you that your sincere questions and turmoil are actually strong evidence of saving faith. It matters to you! (Even if there are periods of true doubt mixed in with a more confident faith, faith in a living, loving G*d matters to you.) Your personality will also make a difference. Mine finds it easier to accept a faith in a sovereign Heavenly Father who calls me through no inherent goodness of my own. I have more naturally skeptical family members who have wrestled with your questions more than once. Most are grateful for faith in our one true Savior.
Sean McDowell father would probably recommend that we "major on the majors," like Sean expressed. Who is Jesus, and what is the meaning and importance of His sacrificial life, death, and resurrection. Bless you.

I think that we should be loving because it's the right thing to do and it's because what God would want us to do and because it's what jesus would do and it's because we're walking in the way of our master. People potentially coming to Christ because of that is just a positive by product, not the reason why we do it. And though I believe that is probably what Sean believes i wish he would say it.

There was a time that the Church had moral authority to stand against oppression and tyranny. Most today will bow down and obey those in authority, while they conveniently forget that those in authority only "bear the sword" for one narrow purpose. This fundamentally destroys the balance of Romans chapter 13 as it is all about obedience to those in authority without any of the required restraint in use of "the sword". .... "Christians" on a jury today will rubber stamp oppression and tyranny under the umbrella of "obedience to authority" while those in authority openly flaunt their use of "the sword" to do all manner of social engineering, economic manipulation to pick winners and losers, and criminalize innocent behavior in order to generate revenue by selling a licence to commit the crime.
We do need God. ... Without God, where will moral authority reside? There is a good reason to separate civil and moral authority into separate bodies.
If the state wields "the sword" and can by its own authority determine which acts are evil (guilty), there is no separation of Church and state.
If the Church determines which acts are evil (guilty) and wields "the sword", there is no separation of Church and state.

I saw the debate you refer to - Andrew Wilson vs. Matt Dillahunty. Before the debate I had never heard the term “rage quit”. But I myself rage quit the video before it was over and vowed never to watch another debate between a Christian and an Atheist. Neither debater represented his position well. Mr. Dillahunty came off thin-skinned and unprepared, while it seemed obvious that Mr. Wilson had calculated an approach to provoke his opponent by using personal details from his life. If I were going to choose my religion based on that debate, I'd be a Zoroastrian today.

I’ve struggled so. I’m an “ugly” sinner. Do we when we come to Christ know all things ??? NOT. Not everyone is neurotypical and not everyone grew up in health, wholeness and loving rel’p w proper guidance and teaching. Not trying to water the gospel or eliminate OT holiness from NT grace. It is all working together. We all need to go to Christ the Word and be led and guided and discipled appropriately. I can see where your coming from as I, a prodigal daughter, can’t fathom how someone can walk away from the relationship I have with Christ now. Prior, I was atheist, prior to that, I was someone who claimed to be christian but my heart held nothing but hatred for God so I clearly wasnt. And now I want nothing more than to serve Jesus, who saved me despite all that.
However, the proverb of the seeds growing tall in the rocks but then dying because their roots couldnt run deep exists for a reason. Same goes for the plants that grew in thorns with deep roots but the thorns choked them out.
Both were growing well but lacked the fellow disciples/the leaders/etc to have someone help remove the thorns or provide proper soil.
