I watched Taxi driver for 30 times and I'll will watch it every once in a while till I die. An absolute masterpiece. The other masterpiece for me is Werner Herzog's Stroszek.

My god, how time has passed so fast. Nearly 50 years. Like a lot of us, I've had my Bickle phase (without the psychopathy) in being lonely and isolated in a big city. Shit times, but they mostly pass.
Damn i'am kinda lonely thus I became an attention seeker now this is the point I have started relating to Travis. I crack jokes but that gives me temporary interaction I am still seeking deeper interactions with people who is still unknown to me.
Like many, I tended to consider the relationship between Travis and Iris to be the cynosure of the film. What you have done with your edit puts the focus on the love story of the film by using the most amazingly, painfully, beautiful music featured. That added a dimension to both the movie and the song that made me think deeply. Very good work, you should feel proud. Edit: after screening this several more times, I long for the scene in the coffee shop to be added; where Travis explains his right to ask her out, and she sweetly confesses her feelings.
Travis blew it. He took the girl who gave him a fair chance to a porno movie...a vile bottom of the barrel porno. He earned her contempt by his ignorance and lack of higher values. Then he quit under the guise of trying to save Iris. This is no love story...this is despair.
JB wrote the song when he was 16- he knew nothing of life other than to write down a bunch of words that rhyme and fit them together...it really doesn't say all that much. Maybe just the picture of a song you were hoping it might be?

He’s a young man that has seen the horrors of Vietnam. He’s now left with chronic insomnia, paranoia, no friends. He just doesn’t know how to act around people, he doesn’t fit in anywhere as far as I can tell.

That said...I encourage all who sympathize with the character to venture to the next level (the one that eluded Travis). Amazing Gene Siskel thought this film would have a happy ending when he sat down to review it. America was self administering Amnesia in various forms. So when De Niro walks into the office the audience at the time notices nothing distinguishing about Travis's jacket. Scorsese is subtle "Marines....me too." We see the VC Flag. We see the attack posture vs Albert Brooks...then the tension builds. The Wizard scene tells us that something is up but WHAT. Easy Andy is the turning point in terms of implied threat to credible threat. Betsy & Iris are the Catalysts of course. Late for the Sky-Taxi Driver is in the top ten for song to soundtrack.
Michael McLoughlin I was driving a cab in N.Y.C.when they filmed this movie. Going down 2nd Ave. one night I saw a Checker cab on blocks. Surrounded by Klieg lights & police barricades. So iI stopped at the barricade & a cop told me what was going on. I'd never heard of Robert DeNiro before. But when the movie came out I thought him & the whole movie was great. I really indentified with the driver-I'd go to any neighborhood at any time. That was the job & the way you made money; But you saw alot of shit going on at that time & at times it got to me too. I started feeling as if I was doing God's work. You get close to the edge often. It's easy to understand going over it.

The only way this pastiche could have been improved upon, would have been to include the jarring - reversed cymbal - "double take" into the rear view mirror, at the end; indicating that his underlying pathology, "still remains."
If Travis just had been able to show off his well-trained body and gone to see some mainstream movie like Jaws, he would have not only f-cked Cybill Shepherd's hot character but also would have become a normal decent middle-aged man... That's my take.

But when the movie came out I thought him & the whole movie was great.
I really indentified with the driver-I'd go to any neighborhood at any time.
That was the job & the way you made money; But you saw alot of shit going on at
that time & at times it got to me too.
I started feeling as if I was doing God's work. You get close to the edge often.
It's easy to understand going over it.

The only way this pastiche could have been improved upon, would have been to include the jarring - reversed cymbal - "double take" into the rear view mirror, at the end; indicating that his underlying pathology, "still remains."
