- Yes, it's a really long name for a motorcycle. But look past the name for a minute and you might come to see that the 2024 Suzuki GSX-S1000GX+ is Suzuki's most advanced motorcycle to date. A spinoff of the GSX-S1000GT, the GX+ is for those sport-touring riders who prefer a more upright position, longer-travel suspension, and even more electronic rider aids. Power comes from Suzuki's tried-and-true 999cc inline-Four that can trace its roots back to the K5 GSX-R1000 - but is that such a bad thing?
To find out, Ryan Adams took the trek to Portugal to give Suzuki's latest sport-tourer a spin and see for himself.

I think this is one of the cooler bikes for 2024!!
$20,565 is what it takes to get a similarly equipped S1000XR with no luggage only luggage prep. Despite Suzuki’s seemingly high price, problem free ownership comes standard and that’s worth a few grand to someone who actually rides. The Suzuki is an easy choice and a win at under $19k fully equipped
In the US, a BMW S1000XR will run you $18,190 after destination fees. The Suzuki will cost $870 more ($19,060)! Once you buy side cases for the BMW, the price will be nearly identical. That is a surprisingly high price set by Suzuki and not really in line with their more aggressive pricing for their other class of bikes.
The S1000XR generally puts down ~150HP to the rear wheel in stock form (25HP higher than the Suzuki) and the brakes are phenomenal and in a different league than any Japanese manufacturer. The throttle mapping is also insanely refined on the BMW and you can easily ride around in the most aggressive mode 100% of the time. It'll remain to be seen how showa's electronic suspension compared to the BMW's. And the Suzuki may have a bit more torque down low. But overall, I expect the BMW to be the better bike all things being equal. And with the price point being pretty much equal, makes the Suzuki a tougher sell. The Suzuki should have undercut the BMW by $1k-$2k IMO to be more competitive.
I'm sure it'll be a very reliable bike but I would liked to see a stronger value proposition
@@FadilKarim If the headlight on the GSX-S1000GX+ is as bad as the one on my '23 V-Strom 800DE, you'll need to budget in for accessory bars and fog-lights. The 800DE shouldn't be legal for sale on public roads with such terrible headlights and this new bike seems to use a very similar set up.
@@FadilKarim realistically you can’t find a base model XR at a dealer and it wouldn’t be comparably equipped to the Suzuki. After researching that’s why I commented like I did. $18665 gets you the bike. No cruise, no heated anything no luggage prep, no quick shifter etc.
@@FadilKarim looks like $524 a bag, $205 to color match per side plus $209 a side to mount. So make sure you add in $1,500 to that base model you found that you didn’t want cruise or heated grips etc on. Just saying, and the XR is a great running super smooth shifting bike, not really that comfortable for me, you’re better off buying a used one already outfitted just make sure you opt for the extended warranty just to be safe, that’s only $560-$1000 more depending how long you stretch it 👍🏼
Exactly. I love BMWs but the Suzuki will be a safe investment if you plan on riding it a lot and keeping if for a long time. Unfortunately, the original purchase is only one part of the equation. BMW parts are $$ and if it needs something five years down the line you could be out a few grand pretty quick.
the front and headlight are such a huge improvement over the GT. cant stand the headlights on that bike, this one is very handsome.
Yeah a bit more Tracer like, looks more balanced than the GT - which still looks good for a modern sport tourer imo
Agreed!!
Curiously the headlight modules are the same as on GT, just positioned in different way.
I’ve been eyeing an S1000XR for some time, this surprise of a release by Suzuki has me interested. I’ve been head over heels with the looks of the XR since the latest gen came out but this Suzuki is handsome in its own right, would save me some change too!
As a salesman who only rides what I sell, I am so glad to see this model. Sorry customers, my first one goes to my home 🙂
I really like this bike it suits my style of riding.....suggestion you could make these videos longer, with riding impressions while riding the bike and the whole adventure of a bike launch. Lamb Chops Rides made 2 - 30 min videos on this launch and I've watch them several times Otherwise good job.
Nice review Ryan
I Have a 06 Vstrom now love it, looking forward to ride this one soon.
love from one sight, damn awesome bike
I like the look. I want to have it.
Sounds like it's time to round up some competition.
Versus 1000 SE, Yamaha FZ9 GT, and I would toss in the GSX-1000 GT too.
I am a potential buyer for all 4 and having them together in one comparison would be interesting.
Going to leave out the m1000xr?
Are the suspension settings independent of the rider mode settings? What if you want the moderate throttle with the firm suspension?
Or maybe RT for Renn Touring lol.
Anyway seems super nice, except you need a nice seat to match.
Wonder where it revs in top gear on the freeway at 80mph?
Does it have the torque to not have to downshift?
Still a competitive price with the tech.
Why not buy the V storm 1050 standard model instead of this ?
the written review is missing from the description.
Abs, fuel injection and a clock
That's all I need.
All this extra electronics is going to be a horror when these bikes come up on the used market later in their life.
I totally agee... but i am a new rider... but i am also 65 years old, all that shit breaks and will cost money to fix...
such a good looking front end.
I really like this as I was looking for something more powerful than a Tracer 9. However it seems over compared to the GT. Yes electronic suspension but at what $4k more?
It also has an IMU for corning ABS and Traction control. But it dose seem like a big jump 3k would feel better.
Tracer 9 is not a superbike, this one is a proper liter class super bike
Suzuki seems to be pricing their bikes a little higher this year compared to the past. Still cheaper than the BMW though.
How bad is the headlight? I can't ride my 2023 V-Strom 800DE at night. This bike has similar style headlights.
They are the same for GT, GX, G8S and VStrom 800. IMHO the worst part of my GT - however with correct adjustment things improves a bit. But still not enough for relaxed night riding. On VStrom 800 you can add auxiliary light, on GT there is nothing to do😕
@@hex_surfer4588 Suzuki needs to fix this. These are touring bikes. People will be busting out big miles on 'em.
@@JayBee-cr8jm I'm bit sceptic they will fix it on already sold bikes. In my case I will need to find some way to install additional lights.
@@hex_surfer4588 You can always add aux lights. Too bad it needs them though.
@@anxiousappliance It's quite difficult - so far there is no aftermarket light mount for GT and there is no space for DIY mount. Things are better with VStrom tho.
Nice review & an interesting bike. Although I really don't get why they'd only bring in one colour? What's the benefit & advantage of doing that as surely there can't be a financial reason based on different colours alone? Very strange marketing decision although Suzuki do get a bit weird & out there sometimes I guess.
Thanks for calling a Sport Tourer, GT maybe has I fly screen. I'd think to compare GT w Ninja 1000, GS w big Versys. Later is comparison id like to see. Not sure Tracer is the size for comfort for 6'2" long leg frame, coming from FJR. Could there be MT-10 sport tourer, mmmmmm, come-on Yamaha!
My solution was an MT10 with a comfort seat and a touring screen. It's replacing a 1290 SAR that suffered a critical engine failure. I used my SAR extensively covering over 27K miles in a little over a year. Not once did the size make sense, and the extra tank range only made a difference in Alaska and Yukon, and there are fuel transport solutions that'll fill in the blanks on an MT10, if needed. Net/net, build your own and save a bunch. Much faster, too. Cheers.
Ninja 1000 sx for me test rode them both and I’ll stay team green.
This is the bee's knees
The Suzuki dealerships by me discounted GSXR 1000Rs down to 13000 because nobody was just touching Suzuki and it's going to be the same thing with this you can't create something without all the bells and whistles and ask a premium price for it cuz it's going to push people to spend more money and go with a new GS 1300 or triumph.
First, like this new bike
Hope it is much cheaper than the S1000 XR
Way too much $$$, Wait till they're discounted by 2-3K, by fall of 2024
It took eight of nine minutes to get to the Critique, past yet another Overview that we've read a dozen times now. OK, so: 124 HP is pretty good, but 67 ft/lbs of TORQUE is actually pretty WHEEZY. My old 1999 Bandit 1200, with JE 1216 pistons, makes 120 BHP on a Dynojet dyno, and EIGHTY THREE pounds of torque. And with jetted Mikunis cabs, fuels smoother than any FI motor. 480 lbs wet; 175,000 miles now.
This engine has 79lbs of torque and 150HP, don't know where 67lbs and 124HP comes from.
Go back and watch the video again... go to 2:13. Factory "claimed" power numbers are ALWAYS exaggerated, yet people quote them like Scripture@@hex_surfer4588
@@888jackflash Do some search about real dyno results for GSXS1000GT (they are all on rear wheel) and you will see 67lbs of torque is absolute nonsense. Cycle World made a pull and shared dyno charts, Moore Mafia did a reflash and gives all the data in their video. The info is there, no need to speculate.
Online 4 cylinders just don't work with these types of bikes for me. Have to rev the nuts off it to get anything... triples and twin Miles better
Rev the nuts off to get anything from 1000cc engine? Really?
@hex_surfer4588 yeah!! And? I had a z1000sx and the engine was brilliant but didn't pick up till after 7000rpm
@@christophereaves7108 Probably the problem comes from torque limiter configuration in ECU, the engine itself can give more. Just reflash it and I'm sure it will fix the issue. I have GSXS1000GT and the problem is how ECU limits the torque on lower gears.
@@hex_surfer4588 yeah 100% right, i test driven the 1000sx from bmw and that was the same, needed alot of high revs to get it going, stonking bike though, but prefer a twin or triple for a sport tourer i think
@@christophereaves7108 Simple ECU flash with throttle restrictions removed on the Euro 5 choaked SX1000 makes a world of difference along with removing the resonator/cat BS. 26K miles on my 20' and that bitch pulls easy from 4k up to the unrestricted 11.5k redline! Just saying
I have a 1000gt+ I have similar complaints wth this, I like it but. . . overpriced, why can't Suzuki make an adjustable windscreen, smartphone integration is abysmal stop already with the budget crap and build something truly stellar. The same old Suzuki no cutting edge just acceptable. Too bad , my money won't be going to Suzuki next bike
Can not se anything in mirrors🙈
Why do Japanese bikes in the class lag so far in rwhp?
oh look a spec sheet monke
Because they still care about reliability, and they don’t cheat on emissions and noise regulations. A lot of time a flash tune, exhaust valve removal, a cat delete, and a high flow muffler will net 20hp uplift on the Dyno. Doing all that work on my Triumph Street triple RS would get me like 2hp up top and minus 3hp everywhere else.
Because you don’t need more than 140-150 hp to tour. I own a Ninja 1000SX, 130whp with a tune and full Akra system. I can never get 130 whp out of it when I travel and it will get 130 mph real quick even with cases and loaded. They are not building race bikes for touring. Also keeps the price attainable.
They don't need dyno bragging to sell their bikes.
Their GT is suddenly largely redundant and to a degree obsolescent in their lineup with the introduction of this bike. I can’t see near enough of a divergence in relative purpose to justify continuing with the GT model.
Obsolescent? Why?
cheap plasticky design, fit and finish is not worth 18k . Kaw versys is better
