Hi Ivy, I'm really sorry I missed you comment. I have never ever been subject to any racism here in Finland and racism is highly condemned by the law. They barely even mention it in conversations among pals. In the contrary they seem to appreciate that people come from so far and different place to leave in their "cold" country, though I love it ;)

Ivy, did you come here in the end? Yes, there is racism here, but it should be less of a problem than in the US. From what I've heard, for African-Americans this is actually an easier place than for white Americans. They get challenged a lot, about American foreign policy and about US domestic policies and problems, which is a bit unfair and can get tiring. On the other hand, and despite the racists, African-Americans will probably more positive attention and interest than your average white foreigner of any nationality. So you could expect a weird mix of racism and stardom, probably the emphasis on the latter.
