Nightwing's character growth makes sense logically. Unlike Batman, who had to grow up thru his trauma while trying to save gotham AND raise kids past these circumstances, Dick grew up with both the trauma of loss and a vision board of the effects of that trauma. Being raised by batman, he has learned almost all of the hard, brutal, and relentless lessons that made Batman such a hardened warrior, but he also learned from his mistakes as a human being. The emotional intelligence, sympathy, empathy, and relatability were things Batman struggled to get, while Dick grew to excell in them. Its why he was always able to keep a smile thru the darkness. In a way, Nightwing is like if Batman moved like batman, but with Superman's personality.

The thing about Bruce was that Alfred didn't know how to help Bruce get past his grief. Bruce did know how to help Dick. Moreover, Bruce was able to help Dick get justice for his parents' death and not vengeance. All good parents want their kids to have a better life than they had it and to be better than themselves. In that regard, Bruce truly succeeded.

Dick Grayson is my favourite comic book character of all time. What makes Nightwing special is that he is everything Batman couldn't be. Batman is definitely one of if not the greatest superhero in all of fiction but he is obsessed with the mission and has given up his life to be Batman but Nightwing didn't. Instead of lingering in the darkness Dick moved on and celebrated his parents' lives, he formed relationships, became a true leader and devoted his life to helping others out of the kindness of his heart. Dick Grayson is only human yet he is more heroic than most superheroes.

He connects more casually with kids, because he got to have a Bat Family, whereas Batman only had Alfred. Things like that.
Nightwing is one of the most respected heroes in the DC Universe, he's the ultimate leader and the one that Batman trusts and respects the most. Batman realized he was his own man in a New Teen Titans/Outsiders crossover in the 1980's when Robin said no to Batman's battle plans and came up with a better plan.

Like a parent who made mistakes, to watch their child observe, learn and grow from them. My kiddo is a better me, and I love that for her.
Comparing to the original is like saying a james bond actor is better than sean connery. Nobody can be better because all bond performances copy connery in one way or another. Without batman, the vigilantes of gotham would not themselves have been able to build a force like the bat family. None of them is smart or driven enough to study and train as much as batman did. Street level heroes are always compared to batman, not nightwing, not black canary, not lady shiva, not jim gordon, only batman. Batman is the standard. Guys like nightwing might have better soft skills or superior athleticism or intelligence or creativity, but batman still has far more skills, long term goals, indomitable will, and experience. Tim might be a better detective and nightwing a superior fighter, but no batfam member is an expert in chemistry, biology, engineering, IT, literature, popular media, history, languages, psychology, etc etc. Unlike the kids, batman didnt have a role model or peers. He pioneered it all and continues to be the backbone of the family.

I wish they established him as a competent hero without shitting on Batman's abilities. Like saying Batman can't be emphathetic is the biggest load of bullshit ever. Saying he doesn't work well in a team is also bullshit when he is part of the trinity and justice league. So he has had arguments with them sometimes, that is only realistic as people won't see eye to eye everytime. Of course he prefers to work alone but that doesn't make him a bad person or worse than Nightwing. I feel like a lot of these comparisons is making fun of Batman's introverted nature. Anyway please don't get me wrong, i don't hate Nightwing.
@@Rengokuo4o6I agree. They say that Batman can't be more emotional intelligent or empathetic or he's too dark and gloomy. I'm pretty sure the comics stated that his symbol means hope to Gotham. What more do you need?
100% agree on Nightwing being the better hero. I like him way more than Batman but he will never surpass him in the comics and in real life. In our world, Batman is too popular to have his protege outshine him and you can't compete with 84 years of being a title character. Dick Grayson has only had the Nightwing mantle for a little under 40 years. Nightwing's first featured comic was in 1995, ran for 4 months with 4 total issues, Vol 2 ran for 13 years with a total of 155 issues, The New 52 began Vol 3 and ran for 3 years with a total of 31 issues, Vol 4 started in 2016 and is still ongoing, passing issue 115 at the moment of this post. Batman's first Vol 1 lasted until 2011 and had 715 issues!! That is insane!!! It only ended because DC rebooted as The New 52. Post New 52 Batman's Vol 2 was the complete 52 issues while Nightwing's New 52 Vol 3 got cancelled after 30 issues (1 annual makes it 31). Like Nightwing's Vol 4, Batman Vol 3 started at the same time and is also still ongoing but is just passing 150. Then this all doesn't even consider the over 1,000 issues of Detective Comics which Batman has been a part of since issue 27 in 1939. Even when there is a Batman title and a Nightwing title running at the same time Batman lasts longer and has more issues printed. I'm beyond happy DC is keeping Dick as a grown up Nightwing because most DC shows will have him as kid Robin which is old AF now. In universe, Nightwing will never be better because that means Bruce has to retire or die so Nightwing can be the next hero to either take the mantle permenantly or just be the new patriarch of the Bat Family with the most experience. Also Batman's infamous "prep time" super power is because he's rich. Dick isn't and probably never will unless Bruce leaves all his assets to him when he retires/dies. Another big reason why Nightwing will never pass Batman is that Nightwing doesn't have a Joker. Who is Nightwing's counterpart? Nightwing's rogues gallery is miniscule compared to Batman's obviously and it would be cheap to transfer all of them onto Nightwing when Batman is gone. Some have legit separate relationships to Nightwing other than as Batman's sidekick Robin so they could work.
This is indeed the reason why Nightwing is better than the Batman. This is by no means an accident; this is what Bruce Wayne wanted for Dick from Day 1. This is a success story -- actually many success stories, as Bruce, Alfred, Clark and Dick himself all claim parts in this clear victory. While Bruce is truly comfortable and functional only in the dark, Dick moves between light and darkness nearly without effort, at home in more environments than his primary mentor. While Bruce is balanced, his balance is uncomfortable, unnatural and precarious when compared to that of his oldest son. Indeed, I would be surprised if Bruce were not now actively trying to become more like Dick; he could do worse!
Nightwing really is the best of them. This is why I believe that Dick Grayson is not the best heir to the cape, because Nightwing is his own hero. Nightwing isn't blinded by "the mission" nor does he use it as an excuse for shallowness and apathy.
No he's not. Because even if you made him a better fighter, a better crimefighter--which you could do with any character--he will would be so much less interesting. He's just a shadow of Batman. He doesn't exist without Batman. And sorry not sorry, Batman groomed him, and that's--icky. It's always been a problem. They can fiddle with the backstory, but at the end of the day, Dick Grayson was a little boy whose parents were murdered, and because of Batman he ended up becoming a crimefighter when he was 12, which was incredibly fucked up. Like not for nothing did Kickass show that relationship for exactly what it is--and yeah, Hit-Girl was cool, but we're supposed to see how twisted her whole life has been, how her dad, a Bat-clone, basically robbed her of her childhood. Nightwing is an attempt to take a character who has often been loathed by Bat-fans and make him cool. A rebrand. How well does it work? How many Nightwing movies have there been? Robin at least got two movies. Both of which were awful. The one with his name in it killed the franchise for a while. Dick Grayson and the other bat-sons have their niche. A much much smaller niche. And when you try to make him bigger than Batman--c'mon. If there was no Bruce Wayne, there would be no Robin. Every time he replaces Batman in some alternate reality--that alternate reality dies. He can't draw flies without Bruce. He's not a star. He's a sidekick.
Bruce literally raised and trained Dick to be better than him.

Facts. I just don't get what's so great about this Nightwing guy honestly.
@@Rengokuo4o6 lol i am much more a fan of nightwing than batman tbh but they need to call a spade a spade instead of this weird nightwing worship of the last decade.
@@antondelacruz9362 I don't want to hate Nightwing but it seems everybody is just kissing his ass so much it doesn't make sense.
Cover the Chuck Dixon run!!!!❤
I really wish Dick had stayed as Batman permanently, the Morrison run with him and Damian is still my favorite Batman run
Great comic!
He’s Batman’s greatest success
Best comic ever.
Nightwing will always be my favorite Super hero
Well he was trained by the Batman so I expect that to be the case if he was trained well.
Nightwing is Batmans greatest success after all
He's better because batman raised & trained him to be better then him ❤
This Batman is great though.
He isn't the brutal vigilante mindlessly beating up criminals like so many portray him as.
Rip
What happened wasn't Batman locked in blackgate?
What happens with the kid after this? I feel like the story is leading to Dick adopting him and raising him as Nightwing’s version of Robin.
NW is the MAN! Next up, NW 300!
Nightwing really is the best of them. This is why I believe that Dick Grayson is not the best heir to the cape, because Nightwing is his own hero. Nightwing isn't blinded by "the mission" nor does he use it as an excuse for shallowness and apathy.
really nice
Renee knows nightwings identity?
I think Frank Miller would disagree.
Nightwing is a better person than Batman but he can still get that ass beat with the rest of his family by Batman
Bruce was amped in Gotham War. Cass and Dick wash him everyday of the week.
NIGHTWING is the better hero and this kinda brought some tears to my eye
Nightwing is more of Superman's son now. I love his optimistic behaviour.
Said no one
Nah Superman ask Nightwing to look after his son
This whole comic kinda showed the opposite but aight
Superman more like Uncle I'd say
@@KonEl17yees I was about to comment this. Definitely a super uncle.
Hey
goatwing
God damn..
Will Nightwing have better writers 😅batman’s writers just challenge each other for who can make him more miserable and edgy
Nightwing over Batman any day of the week.
Man I love nightwing and how Batman knows nightwing is a better hero then him
No he's not.
People will say Nightwing is better, but Bruce is the reason he became who he is.
Bruce is the better crime fighter.
Dick is the better hero.
Least that's how I see it
