- This time on SPPTV Rob repairs the rusty rocker panels on the donor chassis. He has done this many times and makes it look easy, but you to can do this at home with a welder and simple tools. This car is being built with a complete donor Turbo LNF SS Cobalt parts car, the original car that was hit in a car accident. Lots more to come of this build, as it nears completion.

I also have a cobalt ss with same rocker issues . Have been looking for a tutorial for a while this video is perfect thanks dudes !
This reminds me of when I replaced my inner and outer rockers on my 99 nbs sierra. Lots of work, but you know what your getting at the end of the day! Watching you work here makes it look so easy, I remember my arms and back hurting for a couple days from welding all the rocker spot welds on the floor. Nice work!
Rob is a Beast! Great job.
Thanks for the Vid guys. Cheers 🥃🥃🍻
Thanks for the update. Nice job.
Looks good! I too saw that tip using that style tool for spot weld removal.
I just got done with my rocker panels for my g5 just used spray foam and bondo and sanded it down.
Looks good Rob!
Nice work.
Will you be spraying some sort of cavity was inside that area to keep it from rusting again?
Looking good.
Good job thank you for the videos Everybody give this video a like 👍👍👍
Where did you purchase the primer rocker your working and welding on ?
good work
As a retired toolmaker that worked in the plant where these were made i feel bad about the crappy steel they were made of . We did our best to ensure that the parts went together well but you can only work with what the fab plant sends you . Quality was not job one . would you not think that the most obvious rust spotswould be thicker metal and better sealed . The compant told us that they lost money on every car ,maybe because there was one boss for every five workers ?
So far my LNF has no real rust maybe a dot here and there. I've had it Krowned before and it must be working. I park on a slight hill too so water doesn't sit on the rocker area. The doors start to rust on these because the weather stripping rubs paint off the inside lip and then it works its way to the outside lip of the dood. I've had more rust on my F body though they like to rust up front more so than at the quarter. One thing with Krown though that shit swells rubber like crazy. The floor board rubber plugs are all swollen on mine now.
Were these slip on rockers? And how did the trims for after this? I have the exact same car same color I do auto body professionally, I can't find die stamped rockers so I'm really curious about what you used and how the fitment was of the panel that you trimmed to fit
They were slup in type rockers. They fit pretty well, and the side skirts fit good
Where did you get them from, I got a set off eBay and the ss side skirts won't fit over them, the rockers are too wide@@SPPTVarmy
I have a 2006 lsj cobalt ss that I'm getting ready for rocker panel replacement. Unfortunately. I don't have a welder... been trying to find someone to help with attaching them... where you located by chance haha. I'm in Pennsylvania by erie
you are lucky it survived this long
Did the side skirts fit or did you have to modify them? I have a set from eBay and the side skirts won't fit around it, I'm wanting to know if you had this problem
The sideskirts fit fine
@@SPPTVarmy thanks what brand rockers did you use
I bought them from a guy who bought and never used them. Not sure of the brand
@@SPPTVarmy thanks for the reply, mine look just like the ones you used, but the side skirts won't wrap around, I could cut off the underside part of the skirts, but I don't want to if I can avoid it with a different set of rockers, by the way how did you line up the holes in the rockers for the side skirts clips
I just measured where they were on the skirt and transferred it to the rocker
Just stripped a 2010 Cobalt SS for parts (front crushed) it had about 85k miles. it had NO RUST and was from Omaha (heavy salt area) the owner must not have driven much in winter.
Nice job Rob , the new outro music is terrible lol .
Straight edge would help
👍
I may have missed it... what’s the goal with the cobalt?
The goal is to make a solid nice car for Robs daughter. She spent what seemed like the better part of last year looking for a clean cobalt SS. A few months after she got it somebody crashed into her and totaled it beyond what it was worth to have a "certified" salvage repair place put it back on the road up there in Canada. Rob purchased the totaled car back from insurance and then bought this regular cobalt to switch all the SS stuff onto. Kinda sucks because we all know Robs work is much higher quality than what he would have had to pay for but hey at least he knows his girls in a clean and safe ride when he's though with it.
Nailed the Coles Notes! 👍🏿
Its good to see helpful videos like these made by fellow Canadians, Keep up the great work.
I'm a Ontarian.
hi there WERE YEA GET THE Rocker
Any place that sells new body panels should have them.
I've seen universal body panels at Canadian Tire before.
Princess Auto might have universal auto body panels too.
Home Depot might have sheet metal, but they do have the long and perforated 90 degree elbow made of steel.
This definitely isn’t an lnf car but good work
It will be, keep watching and check out the other videos in this project
