Also, their fighting formation is different from what you'd see on a medieval battlefield, even if you account for the smaller numbers.

I'm sure these guys train physically and do a bit of sparing, but they all have jobs outside of this. You'd need to be a full fledged knight to have the competence needed to take someone much bigger than you without a sizeable amount of luck
