Saved me a lot of time and trouble. Thanks very much for taking the time out to make the video. And especially for identifying the little metal piece on the side (which flew out when I opened mine, and I couldn't work out where it came from!)
Awesome tip. I have struggled with that thing for a while wondering what it was for. My key was wobbling inside the hole. I just adjusted the metallic tab and the key is now snug. It's the small tips that help. Thanks a bunch
that little piece of metal @ the 2 min. mark (spring) is for actual key if you don't have it in it your key will rattle in the holder. thanks for the video just replaced my battery and now I can open the windows from a further distance by having the open button pushed in visa versa to close the windows ;-)
This clip made it easy for me to change the batteries in both of my 2008 S80 PCCs. Mine have two batteries each. One PCC had the little metal piece and one did not. I assume the missing one was lost when the batteries were replaced in the past. Thanks for the video.
Great job. Used your video to help change the battery for our 2008 V70 key fob. The only issue is the contacts with the battery. There are two contact parts that depend on spring tension. You might have to bend them up to get good contact with the battery when you reassemble the fob. Many thanks!
Thank you for sharing where that little clip on the side goes back into! It popped out while changing the battery and I could not figure out where it should go back in.
Thank you for this video. I tried to use tweezers, but I didn't handle that :D Instead I used a small (very small) screwdriver (2.0mm wide and nearly as thin as your tweezers) from my 6pcs precision screwdriver set. For me that screwdriver was easier way. Of course that tiny metal tab falled down to the floor, but I found it. I had to watch the video again to find out what I had to search from the floor.
Thank you for this video,I have the 2009 PCC version for a S80.It is basically the same housing with 6 buttons. It takes two batteries and the metal piece on mine was not there. The Volvo manual does not really show you the best place to open the remote (as you show here ),so this was very helpful.
Thank you. I did not have a little silver piece on the edge. There was some silver wire contraption next to the battery casing. I have a 2011 S60 T6. Instructions were very concise.
I REALLY should have watched this before I attempted to change my battery wherein I accidentally dropped kicked my key, had it open unceremoniously, had the spring thing fall out from a place I didn't understand and realized too late that my pa bought the wrong battery size, so had no choice but to shove everything back inside and decided to use the spare key instead. Your way seems much better though. Bravo
I actually found a simpler way to open the key fob - I pulled out the metal key part almost all the way and then bent it a bit to push the lid open from the inside. No tools required!
Здравствуйте. На 1:52 вы дотрагиваетесь до коннектора, у меня он отсутствует и машина не видит этот ключ( запасной), может быть, что проблема в отсутствии этого коннектора?
One of my 09 s80 key fobs battery died and when I replaced it with 2 different kinds (because I thought one might be dead) the remote wouldn't work anymore. I made sure the battery polarity was correct. Do you know what the problem could be?
Hi: open it again and spray it with Contact Cleaner, it won't damage any circuit, then put the new battery checking again the polarity and it should work right away. Note: you need to do this on the original keys.
It has been a while since you posted this. But I think I know what the little spring on the side of the key fob case is for. It keeps the case together. When the dealership replaced my battery the case would not snap shut and keep shut. I had to tape it together. When I went to replace the batteries today I found that spring was missing.
Very helpful video. Now I’ve a question my battery seams to intermittently get stuck in the socket on the dashboard is there a solution for this? Dose not happen every time. When stuck wiggling it releases it but then the car won’t alarm? It’s a second hand car but I love driving it! Any tips would be appreciated thank you
volvosweden it may very well be your style, which is fine, but it also prevents that your fingers might leave some ‘grease’ on the battery, that may effect the function of the battery.
Thats is for KEY LESS auto.. i have it.. someone tell me that battery charged when ist in hole for key... its that right?... i drive always mit my keys in pocket...thank you...
It is to prevent any possible build-up of static in your body from damaging the electronic components. A standard safety procedure when working on any such devices.
Also, if you want to be certain your not static loaded. Just touch a radiator, that way you unload the static from your body. Than it's safe to touch electronics.

This is def not the best way to do it, just put a small screwdriver into the key hole, than push it against the back. Doing it like this won't scratch the plastic, and doesn't have risks of braking that clip.
The little metal piece on the side prevents the metal key from rattling against the plastic once inserted. Volvo attention to details... :-)
Very helpful video. Saves me the trouble of having to ask a Volvo dealer to do it for me (no doubt at an extortionate cost) Thanks
Glad it helped
@@volvosweden I was really curious how to change battery, seems to be a sales unit

this was super helpful. the instructions in the owners manual didn't have enough detail to show you how to remove the cover. thanks so much.
Little metal tab on the its there to apply pressure to first key that you removed. Hope it helps the tip. FR
Cheers brother

Thanks for the help mate, don't think I could have figured out how to replace battery without this help

The little spring seems to me an extra restraint for the metal key. Nice clip! I used it to replace the rubber buttons. Thanks!

Hello. Thy for the Video. You saved my Day. I washed my Key and i had to open it to dry the Key

Without that spring the key is loose in the fob. jiggles a bit. Ask me how I know.
I actually found a simpler way to open the key fob - I pulled out the metal key part almost all the way and then bent it a bit to push the lid open from the inside. No tools required!
Works!!!
Exactly and it's much safer.
Great. ....and thanks a lot. Greetings from Luxemburg
YES! While I was opening the key this little metal fucker (@1:45) went out and I haven't got a clue where it belongs. Thank you so much!
Excellent, and no plastic damage! Thanks

+Regine Carey the spring is to give the physical key some resistance
Good to know , I have a V70 with the same type of key ...
Thanks 👍
is the piece on the side significant? it jumped out and i cant find it.
Very useful. A typical example of Swedish engineering, I am afraid.
All the tools I needed were in my manicure kit.
TY, very helpfull video to me as well as many others !!
i think that metal looking thing is for the key to keep in place. Thats where the metal key goes in anyways right
Do you need to re-program the key after change the battery? Thank you! ☺️
Ive just changed mine on a v40 (2 batteries) and not a problem
does it need to be a specific 2430 battery? or it can be any brand? please i need to answer this!

Buttons up... Logo down? Seems to make a difference.
Thanks, but what's with latex gloves?
Style...
volvosweden it may very well be your style, which is fine, but it also prevents that your fingers might leave some ‘grease’ on the battery, that may effect the function of the battery.
Is this a rechargeable battery? That was my understanding, but I'm thinking that's nonsense and I need a new battery.
I opened the KEY FOB from my XC60 2017, and there is two 2430 battery inside :)
my volvo s80 also brings 2
thank you this was a big help
+hoospoodles Glad to help.

Thank you, very helpful video.
Very helpful. Thank you!
The metal clip provides friction to keep the key in place
Thanks for the tips. Can I wear latex gloves to replace the battery? :)
Thank you, it helped a lot!
is it necessary to wear the surgery gloves to remove it? :))
My Volvo key has 2 battery inside. With a plastic inbetween. Does anyone else has the same setup?
+lim chunmeng That is because you have keyless drive.
volvosweden thank you. Haha I thought I have a spare batt.
Yes! My 2011 XC70 T6 also has 2 batteries in the keyfob/ remote. I knew the comments would explain why. Thanks!
mine key has 2 battery , why ?
Your is keyless. Mine is not.
Thnx. Very useful.

I had to buy a spare key from volvo for my 2004 v70 d5. It cost £378.76p
This is def not the best way to do it, just put a small screwdriver into the key hole, than push it against the back. Doing it like this won't scratch the plastic, and doesn't have risks of braking that clip.
why you using the gloves, this is important?
+Damian Łukasz Lydka You don't have to. Less distraction for you guys.
Ok
😮😮😮😮😮
Why the heck do you have to wear gloves to do this??? lol
Was just thinking the same thing. Not being critical the video was perfect. Was just curious.
Thank you.
wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
No, no, no, no, no....this is the hard and damaging way. Look for a better, easier video elsewhere.
this was super helpful. the instructions in the owners manual didn't have enough detail to show you how to remove the cover. thanks so much.

Gloves and tweezers.... I bet he had some fun after this video ;)
