I love how I'm in the Manga we have three separate instance of characters simply being one shot or beat in between pages

I like the moment Yukina had with Hiei in the anime. It showed a soft side to him that's rare in the show.

nice video! i appreciate all your effort.
    i also wanted to say:
seiryu 青龍 means blue dragon so kurama calling him by name in the manga and vaguely referring to him in the anime is likely a translation choice.
it's the same for the rest of the holy beasts:
    byakko 白虎 means white tiger,
    genbu 玄武 means black tortoise,
and suzaku 朱雀 means red sparrow.
have a nice day, and i look forward to seeing more videos from you!

I also wanted add little trivia that in the original Japanese dub, Yusuke training lasts 1 month, so it's also different than in the original manga.
Also on the side note: It's interesting in a way that the English dub added that Tarukane is actually a founder of the Black Black Club, since it makes him much more important and evil than he originally was in both the manga and original japanese dub, where he is simply one of the members.

It's interesting to see what sort of things the anime adds to increase the run time. Some of which does make good character development/character moments. Also, how at times the anime makes things less gory.
FMA manga/anime comparison could be rather interesting. Especially since there's two different animes.

Forgot to air my thoughts on the first one so I’ll dump em all on here
    1. LOVE the sound design detail of a projector/vhs for the anime clips and the paper flipping for the manga. Such little immersive details that spice up a video. Issue with doing it right is that it fits so no one ever notices it.
    2. My view of the anime is interesting due to me (despite being probably younger than you) started with the manga due to my HS happening to have the whole set. I picked it up out of curiosity and gen tried to buy it off the school before graduating lmfao. Decided to pick up the anime a bit later to cope with fear as a hurricane was wrecking my town. I was honestly so blown away by a lot of things but it was mostly a good experience. The dark tournament was the only arc that made me drop the anime for a long while out of boredom. I never consumed them back to back like you tho, so my memories are mixed and I’m not sure what specifically happened.
But it DID color my view enough for me to view the dark Tournament pretty negatively. (Chapter black is probably my favorite arc and I was surprised to learn how unpopular it was online).
I was also blown away by how “colorful” and saturated everyone was. All I had to go off of was the covers and BW manga, so I thought botan had white hair and Kurama dark normal reddish brown. The blue/red and pink took a long time to get used to.
Lastly, I was discussing DB a few weeks ago. And generally I don’t think the OG DBZ anime sub or dub is that good for the most part (the actual story is great I just mean the adaption) and this was beyond just a bias of starting with Kai.
But a point I had in favor of adaptions of stories is unintentionally highlighted pretty well in YYH anime.
That being, that regardless of the differences and stuff I or anyone else liked or wanted to see in the anime. even a person with a non analytical eye could understand why the anime made the changes it did. Cutting stuff here, fleshing things out there. Every change is so thoughtful and deliberate, It’s something I just can’t say for most anime adaptions or adaptions in general. This includes Kai funny enough.
While obviously a lot of it’s cuts were for the better, there’s decent bits of anime only content in the original DBZ that left me scratching my head on why it was cut. As some were genuine attempts at fleshing out skimmed over bits of the mangas story. They thankfully did this less with Buu
This extends to fan filler cut type things as well.
My point being that these types of descions are often super draconian. Being an all or nothing rather than a give and take depending on the medium and what the time and money can afford.
I don’t have the timeline for how far ahead the manga was so I always wonder how they got it right so many times. Did they contact togashi? Was it luck? Simply cold reading? Was most of it already out?
I feel like mob psycho and the fourth part of Jojo are the only other adaptions I can name that have a similar level of consideration applied.
The changes YYH’s anime made is a far cry from the absolutely wild shit HxH 2011 got. Idk who thought cutting out the most important chapters (the FIRST one’s) from the entire anime was a good idea 💀
I’m just of the opinion that it’s kinda impossible, especially in a comics to animation case to adapt something 1:1, so why try? It’s better to take advantage of what each respective medium has to offer as long as the core of what the intent is remains the same.
It’s why to me, at least from memory, none of the padding felt all that obtrusive to me as it does in other anime, a lot of it tied into the canon/important ongoing stories anyways. Which is something i can’t say for the times this is done in other anime.
Time doesn’t exist in manga, so koenma talking to yusuke in front of the principal can easily be rationalized a billion different ways and be chalked up to “spirit world stuff”.
But the anime doesn’t have that luxury to tweaking it to have koenma flex a way to show his power and priorities of staying anonymous via stopping time to justify why the teacher doesn’t notice any of this is such a neat change.
It didn’t NEED to be done but that change helped add some flavor to the scene. Much like you adding the vhs and paper sound design! It reminded me of what I forgot to say back then, hence why I brought it up!

I wanna say that the manga was pretty far ahead of the anime since from the first ending it shows off all the members of team Toguro and Yusuke’s knife death match with Chu. I’m guessing that the anime team picked it up mostly as an action show (which is likely why they skipped over half of the early spirit detective stuff)

I remember the ending of chapter black be different same with some very dark togashi quotes post chapters plus the anime and manga ending being different
Also hiei destorying the chapter black instead of keeping it.

It's interesting to see that there are a lot of differences early on, when they're trying to get things established, but when the stories can assume the audience is familiar with everything, it's much simpler to keep things uniform.
