Unfinished wood is a Japanese style for furniture, woodwork. It is an artistic style. The box is typical of Japanese storage boxes.

It is good to hear this as there are negative comments on amazon about the 'cheap, falling apart box' and 'not worth the money' because of the box. and now I hear these comments addressed on this video too. 🙂

The wood is probably paulowina wood. Which is very common in japan. Its light, strong and used to package, usually, very fancy objects like tea ceremony items.

This Christmas I got a Boku-Undo Pale palette, it's só beautiful! And since then I'm only looking for this brand ánd the Gansai Tambi (especially this full set). Which I really don't need; I'm just a beginner, I already have plenty of paints ánd it's... well... pretty expensive 😉
But there is a little voice saying I really need this just to have it and I'm trying to ignore it... 😂
Bying the 48 set, the 24 nouveau set and the five sets of 6 (Graphite, Starry, Opal, Pearl and Gem) is a lot cheaper, but still don't need it 😂

I started w/c painting recently and was using a child's w/c set. So it was chalky etc but great until I could decide on a better brand. Kuretake was what I chose. I can't compare it to other brands, but I am loving it. The only thing is, my set has the gold range in it, and I used it. Now I can't get the sparkles out of my brush. Hopefully, over time, it will all come out. So recommend having a totally separate brush for the golds and glitter.

I love this! I'm experimenting with gouache since I shopped around and found your landscape class on Creative Bug. While painting in the landscape class, I discovered that I like the more opaque look as I completed both scenes. Now I see that I should give the Gansi Tambi paints a try. I really think many artist would benefit if you would teach more landscapes in the style you presented in those classed, Kristy....I'm a vibrant painter also and my completed pieces were the most joyful I've every done, and the most colorful and happily realistic. They were good but not so serious and not boring. That's hard to do and you made it easy for me. Thank you! You are what making art is all about.......and what's so difficult for so many of us to accomplish. You made this fun again and I've been painting for a long time.

Feel better because you just how many you do own and 2. See what is worth still getting if anything, which might make you feel even better or help you buy smarter and budget better.
In the end I hope that you just enjoy making beautiful art with all the paints that you already have.

I do it with other mediums too. My comfort go to is random shapes. Sometimes with a limited palette. And then just see what I get. It's so fun to see someone else just plop colours on paper like I do. 🥰

The first brush contact to the paint pan surprised me as it felt sticky, but that feel does not transfer when you paint. Just opened my set of 48 tonight and started to swatch. Very new to watercolor, and these among the other brands I have tried so far are my favorite (started with the Mission Gold 24-Set, and purchased individual colors of Roman Szmal, Daniel Smith, and M Graham--all beautiful). Trying out the Kuretake, I found that I loved their consistency, and the feel when applying to paper. I found them easier to work with as a beginner because they seem more forgiving of unintentional variations in water amounts, more predictable, and creamy in more saturated tones. (Side note: These pros could be because, at this stage, I am specifically not interested in creating large washes, painting loose, abstract shapes, or watching the water take over and determine where the pigment flows...so, maybe part of the reason I like them, is that I feel more control while working with them.) They have opened a door for me that the other brands had not, and I'm so excited to get started!

I got it on sale through Amazon Japan. I saved about $100 and got free shipping. I used saved up gift cards so it was attainable. Otherwise I wouldn't have gotten it. Shipping took about 1 week total. It went from Tokyo to Boston in 2 days! It was fun tracking it.

I love this set!! Organizational thought…. I think it may be helpful to put the tray number on the pans as well. I would pull out the colors I think I will want to use. I am a bit ADHD, and would get overwhelmed. That’s why I would number each pan…so I can put them back easier when I’m finished.

Has any one mentioned that it looks like a pink toucan in a jungle? (I think toucans are blackened bright colors, but that is what it makes me think of.) The toucan is on its side though. You should turn it and then you can see the bird. At one time you give it purple wings that are raised.

Lovely paints! I believe these are traditional watercolor paints, I believe the differences are Eastern VS. Western Style of painting. I just got the Embrace Opacity Set of DaVinci watercolors curated by Denise Soden and I have used the Gansai paints to work on Studio Ghibli scenes from some of my favorite movies! I do wonder if you have tried this new set from DaVinci or just substituted your own paints to work in more opaque colors ? Since you love these so much. I have been watching Jenna Rainey and she is mixing her paints more like gouache with lots of whites or cream colors in her florals! She has switched to Maimeri Blu paints. I have used them in the past, but just do not think they compare with my new favorite paints from DaVinci ! Lovely video Kristy, Please stay safe and keep them coming.

Wow! I feel like I did when I was 7 and saw a 6th graders textbook! I'm in awe of this lovely palette. I was gifted a watercolor palette set by my daughter (a natural born artist) because I told her I was fascinated with painting and wanted to try creating. I started looking up videos and quickly became overwhelmed. I landed here (in the artistic deep end) because it was the latest video of Kristy's I could find. I love your videos, Kristy, and feel drawn to your heart for other artists and joy. I want to play with paint and painting, to have some of those creative endorphins, but am without any ability or skill... only interest, appreciation, 48 paints and a brush. Where is the very beginning (1st step or video) for the most very beginner of all time?

Good luck. Most importantly enjoy the journey. I found that using very cheap materials helped me gain courage, but gave poor results. They allowed practice without pressure before moving on to better quality materials, which made a big difference to the out comes.
Following tutorials was the way to go for me. However I found searching beginner watercolour tutorials the most helpful. There are lots of classes by top watercolourist that offer great beginner lessons for free on UA-cam. This is a great channel to start searching on.

I have a small set that is pastel shimmer, and it is very beautiful. It did take me a little while to get used to it but I do enjoy it. I kind of wish I had bought the small metallic gold and champagne color to use on black and dark navy paper instead my art store also had a shadow said a small shadow said that was metallic. That was also very beautiful, but I didn’t really know what to do with it. I think one of the prettier sets that I’ve seen is the one with the bright cherry and lime, green, and strawberry like colors.
