Such a sweet and pure man. Not too many have the integrity and talent he has. Have loved his music for decades.

Interview about Salman Rushdie's book The Satanic Verses.
"Would you be part of that protest, Yusuf Islam, would you go to a demonstration where you knew that an effigy was going to be burned?
      Y. Islam: "I would have hoped that it'd be the real thing."

Such an interesting interview, though not without a couple of awkward moments.
I have such a great love for Yusuf/Cat not only for his beautiful music, but also for his beautiful heart.
Just 10 years from this interview he would indeed be on his way to making pop music again.

Your songs were ALWAYS about HOPE.......and that is something I always felt, listening to your music...That is why they are so relatable. I have always been interested in other religions....I was raised a Catholic....but, to understand the world...you need to open your mind to many concepts and beliefs to arrive at the Best one for yourself...I have also thought, if you could take the purest views of all the World's religions .....you may just have the PERFECT religion of them All.....In my opinion, if you take the purest forms of LOVE,PEACE and FORGIVENESS....That is the religion or philosophy I would follow....Also, I feel you are a very deep profound thinker and Beautiful soul......But, then I always Loved you, since "Cat Stevens" You are an utter inspiration❤

I really disliked this interviewer and felt sorry for Yusuf throughout. He was contentious and did not have Yusuf’s best interest at heart. It seemed like he was trying to trap Yusuf and get him to say something embarrassing. My guess is that Yusuf definitely sensed that he was in unfriendly and contentious waters with this guy, but he maintained his poise and composure and sense of humor, admirably.

He is very succinct about what he believes he can do....as he always was.

On 12 August 2022, while about to start a lecture at the Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua, New York, Rushdie was attacked by a man who ran onto the stage and stabbed him repeatedly, including in the face, neck and abdomen. The attacker was pulled away before being taken into custody by a state trooper. Rushdie was airlifted to a trauma centre in Erie, Pennsylvania, where he underwent surgery before being put on a ventilator.

He seems to want to forget that he was a pop star/musician alltogether.

He got out of the idol machine of pop culture. Think about how the media brainwashes the public and has an agenda, Yusuf was ahead of the curve to leave that all behind. Hopefully a documentary will explain it all

But isn't staying out of politics the same thing as going up on a mountaintop and not being in the thick of life's problems? There's a contradiction here.

Sometimes I find his interviews a bit too simplicistic. He hardly speaks of anecdotes, things that happened in his playground when he was a toddler, things concerning life behind his gigs, even things that happened during the gigs, he even hardly speaks of his music and how it was recorded, I mean technical details... in his interviews he's constantly asked about his choices, his faith, not much the way he built his lyrics but only what he meant through that... so that his interviews become a bit too boring for me and even his English seems so much reduced to simple words I can hardly believe he's a Londoner...
Just for this reason, he's been asked about his 'path' thousands of times and he's always said he did what he was called for... always.
I think he should let his music speak for himself here and start telling us a bit more about earthly stuff, like any other artist does.

Yes it is but Muslims who listen or compose music are commiting a sin, may be not a great sin but its a bad sin and may be the reason it's haram is because music influence the behavior and affect the nervous system in a certain way

Cat Stevens, so much to offer the world, murdered by Yusuf Islam. Years later, Yusuf tried to bring Cat back to life, but only the empty shell of Yusuf remained.
