- A legal challenge over whether trans women can be regarded as female for the purposes of the 2010 Equality Act begins at the UK Supreme Court on Tuesday.
The action is the latest in a series of challenges brought by the campaign group For Women Scotland (FWS) over the definition of “woman” in Scottish legislation mandating 50% female representation on public boards.
Sex Matters' Helen Joyce joins Julia Hartley-Brewer to discuss how the Supreme Court will rule on what the legal definition of a woman is.

Actually sex cannot be changed but under law gender can. This court case is about deciding if gender and sex is the same thing.
However, men can suffer from crippling gender dysphoria and transition (aka exhibit social, physical and cultural norms of the opposite sex) in order to alleviate symptoms of dysphoria. What’s so hard to understand about that?

Women fought and some gave their lives for Womens rights so please leave us alone and get on with your biological life and stop wasting tax payers money. I am Jamaican-born but have lived in the UK from a very young age. I have noticed that this bizarre and unnatural trans ideology is heavily promoted by Western Europeans. I am not aware of Central and Eastern Europeans doing this. I wonder why this is. Serious question, it is really weird.
My opinion is that those behind the new world order, the globalists, WEF etc. are pushing this in all anglicised and western countries. The idea is to weaken society, confuse the young, divide and conquer, and thereafter take control. (More than their usual control).

don't ask a 16 year old the schools fill their heads with rubbish, my son came home laughing that they didn't even teach them about periods and penitration when they were teaching where babies come from. everything he knows about biology and sex comes from asking me, I had to google a lot about male puberty to set his mind at ease that he was normal, I even had to teach him simple things like where his heart is located and kidneys etc, I think knowing where your organs are is a basic vital fact if your in pain for example and need to tell a doctor where the pain is. schools are terrible.

Giggle, as both gender identity and biological sex are protected under Title IX. It’s frustrating to see gender identity take precedence over sex-based realities-it feels downright Orwellian. I believe this stems from the language shift introduced by the Bostock ruling. It’s astounding that we’re in a position where reclaiming women’s rights and sex-based protections may take political intervention in 2024 and beyond. Kudos to Julia, Dr. Helen Joyce, and Sex Matters for their continued advocacy!

People really need to learn to accept themselves for who and *what* they are, and we shouldn't play along, encourage, or validate it when someone refuses to do so. We should encourage them to grow up and stop playing make-believe.
It would be optimal to try and understand why these people are so dissociated and confused. Problems are never solved via shaming and denying another person’s experiences. The symptoms of the problem may change, but the problem never goes away. Transgenderism is a symptom of a much bigger problem, not a problem in and of itself. How can someone accept themselves as a whole human being if they are not accepted by others as such? People who develop a trans identity are suffering from lack of acceptance and validation from other humans, which is something all humans need in order to feel safe. I mean, we all suffer from this to some extent, and it’s expressed in different ways depending upon our personal circumstances. Unfortunately though, if humanity could collectively accept that the root of all suffering is the illusion of disconnection and separation, we’d probably go extinct in short order.
Just shows how ludicrous, unnecessary and unconstitutional it is to have a court which is supreme over our Parliamentary representatives!
Heaven help us if the ruling of the Supreme Court means that we require new laws from this parliament! Having the current crop of Labour MPs legislating to protect the rights of women and girls would be roughly the same as tasking a bunch of peeping Toms to drafts laws against voyeurism!

Their is no confusion, a women and a male are genetically different due to your assigned chromosomes. You can not change your biological gender, you can anatomically change your outer appearance to look like the opposite gender, but you will always be the biological gender you born. Unless science can find a way to genetically alter you chromosomes, you will always be a biological woman if your biological chromosomes were female at birth
Chromosomes aren't 'assigned' and you're confusing sex and gender (there's no such thing as a 'biological gender'), but I understand what you are saying, I think, and I agree.
No I'm not confusing sex and gender. Gender is defined by wether you have x or y chromosomes, sex is defined by your physical presentation, so male penis, female vagina. You can change your outer physical appearance, so male to female or female to male. You can't however change your biological gender, so a male anatomically changes his outer physical appearance through a sex change, via surgical intervention to look like a female. Despite the outer physical change, so the male now looks anatomically female, but biologically the male is still male because he carries the male chromosomes within his dna. So a Trans female is only anatomically female, but will always be biologically male, as it's impossible to change your chromosomal makeup.
@@andyross2788 You have it mixed up. Sex is the primary feature, it is recognized at birth by the doctor and parents except in a small number of cases. A DNA analysis can identify what the sex is if there is any confusion. XX=female, XY=male. A trans women does not have a female body. Nor a trans man that of a male. The trans women does not have a vagina, they have a cavity that has been cut into their body that has to be regularly dilated because the body interprets it as a wound and tries to close the wound. This cavity has been lined by using the outside sheath of the penis. They do not have fallopian tubes, nor do they release an egg once a month as they were not born with eggs (as they are produced before birth in the development of a female fetus) nor do they have uterus, nor do they have periods once they have reached puberty that lasts until they reached menopause which they also don't experience. Nor do they have breasts that produce milk after having given birth to an infant. Nor do they give birth. Only women have these features or experiences. Gender, refers to the social roles that are sterotypically linked to the two sexes. Theses vary between cultures and within any one culture over time. An individual can assume a set of the gender roles & associated behaviours than differs from their biological sex but that does not change their biological sex. A simple DNA test will confirm their sex.
