    I know a lot of us that watch Garden Answer also watch Gardening with Creekside. In her video this morning Jenny showed the devastation that they had from storms yesterday. No one was hurt thankfully but they lost a lot. Let’s keep them in our thoughts and prayers!

    I learn so much from you, I LOVE it! I work at a garden center in Southern Ontario, Canada, we had a rep from Felco come in and show us how to dismantle and clean a pair of pruners and I mentioned I’ve watched this on UA-cam..and he said, “it was from Laura wasn’t it”? I said yes it was!😂

      Well if course! LOL! I think Felco should run Laura's tutorial video on cleaning Felcos. By watching Laura use her Felcos, it sure made me buy my first pair in 2021. They are the best hand pruners I've ever owned and well worth the money. I only wish I'd known about Felcos sooner.

    Good morning from Kentucky. Laura you are such a joy to watch and learn from. I am 71 and just had my first knee replacement three weeks ago. Will have the other knee replacement in the fall. I hope by next spring I will be able to get back to enjoying gardening and planting beautiful plants and flowers. I have watched you on UA-cam since before Benjamin was born. You have a beautiful family and I so enjoy learning from you and your entire family. I would love to see your Dad in another interview. Always fun when Benjamin and Samantha join you in the garden. It's nice to see Benjamin helping out in the garden. My dad was a farmer, and when I was Benjamin's age, he and my mom started teaching me about working in the garden, picking beans and pulling weeds, etc. little jobs that a child could do. I still use those long ago lessons learned at my parents' side.

    You might want to get in touch with Jenny and Jerry at Creekside as they lost their whole shrub lot in a storm yesterday and their land became a huge river sweeping almost everything away. I don't know if there is anything you could do to help them, but the show of support would mean the world to them, I'm sure. Jenny was almost in tears and understandably so. I can't imagine seeing your business float away. Devastating for sure. Just a thought.

    I am just so in awe with how you are with a camera. I swear , I feel like I’m right there with you, riding around in the gator. It’s always a tiny bit of a surprise when the show is over and I find myself right back at home knowing I have to go back out and battle with my garden. In a zone 9 B and over this winter y garden exploded- yes over the winter. Tomatoes are about 7 feet tall-what do I keep and what do I toss and replace . My drip irrigation isn’t working and replacing the batteries didn’t help I’ve got sweet potatoes and peas that have volunteered (another long story on those). And I have some African daisies and a pineapple sage that have completely taken over one corner -large corner. And I’m 80 yrs old and have no one to help. Woe is me. Ha. If that’s the worse thing in my life I count myself blessed. I’ll figure it out. Have a good day and thank you for this delightful show.

    I pulled up my tulips last year after they finished blooming, stored them in my garage and planted them in the fall and they were AMAZING this spring!! Yulia from Y Garden has a video describing how to do it and I certainly recommend her! She is so knowledgeable and has a wonderful garden.

    • @Ibis333
      @Ibis333 7 місяців тому +1

      I did the same, only I kept them in the garage in a milk crate filled with soil over the whole winter and now I've potted some in containers and just cut some for the vase. I had to move them anyway so this way I got to enjoy them this spring in this fashion. I've tried bulbs in pots outside but had no success (probably due to the freeze/thaw cycle in the spring).

    • @laurahiggins4712
      @laurahiggins4712 7 місяців тому

      @@Ibis333 PLANTING IN CONTAINERS: Take special care with bulbs planted in containers like barrels or pots:
      Use a container that is at least 24 inches across for best results.
      Containers need adequate drainage - several holes in the bottom and a layer of pea gravel is helpful.
      Use fresh soil - not soil that has been used and re-used for several seasons.
      Water bulbs when planted and keep moist throughout the winter.
      Cover with a layer of mulch (2 inches) in areas where freezing occurs.
      Bring inside if weather gets extremely cold, and continue to water while the container is inside.
      Note: Bulbs planted in containers can freeze much easier than bulbs planted in the ground.

    Entire video was so enjoyable! I relaxed until the wind started to pick up. That makes me very tense
    So much dangerous weather this week, people really suffering. Don't want anything happening to " our garden"!

    I love your channel, as always. Thanks for all the ideas and great trips you show. I live in upstate New York zone 6a (zone 5b before). I'm bumping up like you slowly. Our local Garden center told me the reason why many tulips don't come back is because we don't fertilize them enough. You just don't fertilize when planting, but when growth comes in spring, you should add some fertilizer. When you cut the stocks off you should add more fertilizer. That way, they will gather not just sun energy but nutrients,. They have been coming back nicely and spreading little by little.
    Edit: OMG, I got a similar cat that is visiting me.

    LAURA, my dad for years dug up our tulip and Iris bulbs. He would put them in paper bags and stick them in the basement and then we would replant them in the fall. He kept the same plants going for probably four or five years then they would start going back to what they were originally before they were hybridized, but he got four or five years out of the same plants and they were beautiful. I hope that works for you.!

    Many thanks for your wonderful videos. Since photosynthesis also takes place in green stalks I find it much easier to deadhead my tulips by simply taking off the flower remains and leaving the stalks to add energy to the bulbs.

      Yes, you're correct. In the spring, at the end of the season, be sure to top the blooms off of your tulips before they start to fall. Dig your tulip bulbs each year, after the foliage has died down completely.

    Thank you Laura, your videos are always so timely. I have a lot of tulips I need to move into my flower garden. I think I’ll put them with my daffodils.

    If your first strawberry crop is light, it may be due to frost. Sometimes when you see that dark flower center it means the fruit has frosted. I hope that is not the case and that your garden bears heavily!! If the blossoms drop without making fruit, go ahead and trim off the blooms and give them a water with liquid feed and they should pop up another flush of blooms in a few weeks' time.
