- My 2003 C5 Corvette Z06 has been for sale for a couple of weeks and it started to bother me that I never resolved an idle issue that popped up after I made some fixes and upgrades to the car last year.
So I decided to spend $590 on a new dyno tune at Vengeance Racing so I can send the car on to a new owner with total peace of mind. I was also curious to find out what the dyno sheet would say and whether I could learn anything about the "mystery cam" that was in the car when I got it.
Special thanks to Mike at Vengeance Racing for letting me film and explaining his process when tuning the car. - Авто та транспорт
Stumbled upon this after buying my c5z in February. The action of you just buttoning up a car, proves that you are a good person in the car community. Yeah it’s money spent, but the karma in the long run is worth it.
Thanks! I’ve found you never regret it when you try to do the right thing.
@@JoshVanVeld exactly! Exactly.
10:28 such a smooth acceleration
Hey, that's hwy 9. I used to live in Dawsonville. I need to go to Vengence too!!
Had my 08 z06 built from them, sometimes my starts surging but it works itself out, I plan on sending it back and having it stroked out. It runs like a rapped ape now. Spin the tires through first and 3/4 second.
Sounds awesome
Car makes great power 👍 I know it's sold now but do you have the full mod list for this car? I'm currently full exhaust, and intake. Looking to do cam and tune this winter.

Nice vid. Question - how did you clean up the audio so well while driving? I know the raw sound had to be dominated by low exhaust tones.
It's been a while and my setup has changed but I was running a driver-facing Go-Pro with their "media mod" which includes an upgraded microphone. I think the key was windows up, air conditioning off, and microphone pointed directly at me.
A directional microphone is usually pretty good at focusing on the sound coming from whatever it's pointed at.
Also this car had the stock C5Z exhaust with a cutout on a switch, so if I wanted it loud I could open it up and basically bypass the mufflers and dump the exhaust under the car in front of the diff. Otherwise it wasn't too much louder than stock, although the American Racing headers did add some noise.
What pads do you use for track? I also have a C5Z and I’m taking it to the track for its first shake down.
Carbotech XP10 in the front, XP8 in the rear. They did well for me for street use as well, although they do generate a lot of dust. I wish I had done stainless lines as well. Good luck with your track outing. Great car for the track.
Which shifter is that you have? great vid
MGW. Thanks!
It's nice that your honest about the car as for a buyer in the market for one of these He or She would be very grateful. I have 03 C5 Z06 as well with Full Exhaust, Intake and a HP Tuner never been dynoed I believe I have the factory clutch I say this because she's only got 44,000 I bought the car with 35, but I noticed here & there the clutch would get stuck to bottom of the floor and about half a min later slowly come up, my issue is that I'm I'm used to the power I'd like to cam the car everyone says you'll the power if you cam it but also I heard our clutches are a weakling my honest opinion I'd rather do a clutch before I throw more power
You need to bleed the clutch and change fluid. That will help alot with the issue you described.
You're right on track about the clutch......but don't listen to anyone that tells you to put a ls7 clutch in it. They have no clue about anything.
Put something nice and light in it to free it up.
@@HioSSilver1999 I hear 50/50 on the forums but I just dynoed my car recently and made 395 @ the wheels and 370 pound ft. It feels solid but I'm used to it everyone swears camming it turns into a monster lol
@@ricardovilla1757 well....my bolt on ls6 made 451whp/423wtq and trapped 130+.
So you can listen to the wrong 50%......or me.
Cams aren't what these guys crack them up to be either. For example.....i outran every cam or h/c car i ever came across with the same engine you have. And unless you have the right mods to support the cam and use the right cam you could actually slow the car. Most people way over cam these things.
You made 450 wheel off Boltons such as Full Exhaust Intake and Tune or were you H/C/I?
What phone holder is that? Doesnt appear to be stock exhaust. Tips are way bigger than the OE look like.
The phone holder is by a company called ProClip. It was $70 I think. Pretty sure the exhaust is stock but I've been wrong before... :)
I got the same speed society ctsv 3 shirt 😁
Bro where is your tuna located I live in northwest Florida and looking for a Corvette tuner💪🔥🤓
Vengeance Racing is located in Cumming, GA. It's less than an hour north of Atlanta.
I keep my tuna in the freezer. Canned in closet.
What does a tune like you got usually cost?
:50. $600
It literally says in the description 🤦🏻♂️
Yeah man we spend the money to make something nicer for someone else but we won't do it for ourselves.
where did you get that black cover on rear end?
Is that not from the factory? It was there when I bought the car.
@@JoshVanVeld no its not factory
what cell phone mount is that? i need that in my daily c5z lol
It's from a company called ProClip: "Angled Dash Mount - ProClip Angled Mount
1997-2004 Chevrolet Corvette
Item: 852659". I also got this: "Adjustable iPhone Holder for Small to Medium Cases - Adjustable iPhone XS Max Holder for Small to Medium Cases
Apple iPhone XS Max
Item: 711083"
@@JoshVanVeld thanks man
Did you sell it yet?
Yep she sold the day I shot the video. There's a follow-up on the channel.
Reverse light was out
Why would anyone want an EV when you can have a car that sounds as good as tha C5Z
Does anyone know what's a 60 to 130mph stock on these?
No, 0-60 was 3.9-4.3 depending on who you ask(4.0 for a good median). 0-100 was 9.1-9.7 depending on the model year. I couldn’t tell you 0-130
That's pretty low...especially for a cammed ls6. We made 451whp/423wtq with just bolt ons....meaning stock cam too.
I don't remember if I left it in the video but he made it clear that he went super conservative with the tune because he knew the car would be driven on the road course.
That motor has since blown up (I've kept in touch with the new owner) so maybe it was hurting a bit? Not sure.
Thats what I was thinking as well, I have almost his same setup, Cam,MSD intake mani(i know SHHHH), heads, longtubes/exhaust, no cats, ls7 throttle body, and made 470. On a very mild cam and street tune.
Funny
You do realize a cam is not considered a basic bolt on right?
I apologize if you feel you've been click-baited. 😬
