Hello Fellow Scratchers - What do you think of this project so far? - Please LIKE 👍the video if you want to see more, and DO COMMENT and share your ideas about what this game could be! I'm excited to share the best ideas in my videos and hopefully they will make their way into the final game released on Scratch - Woohoo!
I really can’t wait for this! You could code a game that scrolls upwards and there are blocks you have to climb through or dodge and the higher u climb the more points u get but there is a timer and u have to get as many points as possible during the limit
This is crazy! How easy you make Inverse Kinematics look I love these kind of Devlog Videos, keep them going! Also, that would be a truely awesome collab, and I think the whole Scratch community would benefit from it.
What I think would be AMAZING would be to have ur game turn into a puzzle adventure game. To simplify my idea, you could have spider cat navigating a room filled with obstacles and enemies. Then the player would need to collect items (say a key) to complete the puzzle. Once said puzzle is complete, a door would open and lead to the next level. I first discovered you from papercraft on scratch and I love your content!
Awesome! You could make a tutorial for a boss in a new episode of the platformer (the one you added online), this could be it! Imagine, A SPIDER BOSS, maybe it could lose it legs. I don't really know how many possiblities can offer these cool scripts, but you really work hard griffpatch! 😸
I love this style of video. I usually don't actually follow the tutorial videos, I just watch them because im curious how you implement various mechanics. So this type of video is perfect!
This is amazing! The sprite animation reminds me of something kind of like rain world or another game similar to that. I think it would be really cool to do something like that!
I feel like it'd be really cool if spiderwebs were involved in some way - maybe you could give the spider a limited amount of silk it could construct a cobweb with, then send some bugs flying in to see how many that web can catch?
I would love a web grappling hook, where you can zip around the level at set speed and distance, and you could have something like a bar that depletes each time you use it that you could recharge at stations around the levels
you should make the game like a simulator; you move around the cave to find food and lay eggs to create little spiders that can defend you from other enemies or find food and bring them to you. maybe you could create a ui to select what you want the 'drone' spider to do.
as someone who fears spiders and finds them gross... it was interesting how slowly progressively the video started getting gross lol. it was indeed the legs. the way they move about icks me that means project well done, you made such detailed a spider it grossed me out lol
Hmm whilst the radius search is O(n), using touching sprite has large constants. But I guess it's a nice simple solution for this problem. One thing though is you should make the detector line 1px wide, or Scratch will be searching more pixels than it needs to. Also, to make it even faster, you could consider scaling down your background sprite to like 120x90 px, and performing a minimap like version. The current resolution of detection is unneccessary so this would give you a 16x speedup without much extra effort. Nice game. If it gets over 100k views, i'll remake it in 3D.
i never thought ik in scratch would be so easy, at least you make it look easy. this def feels like the perfect movement for a puzzle game (i just finished playing the portal games) perhaps a tower defense ish game where you have to make a web with obstacles? im not sure but anything you come up with will likely blow me away XD
You run around avoiding larger predators in a natural ecosystem. While climbing trees, and jumping off to catch food (such as other bugs, mice, and frogs). Use local fauna/flora to help you achieve difficult tasks.
Possible game idea: A scrolling level or a set amount of preset levels like the platformer tutorials. Another couple ideas I had are several leg joints for avatar/power up possibilities, dampening movement(goes to cursor like a spring doing a elastic like movement) and even more smooth movement(?)
This is so satisfying to look at, I'm really excited to see where you can take this! Also, I have a question. Why Scratch of all programming languages? It's fairly limited in some ways what I've noticed, and I'm curious what makes you stick with it. And do you use any other languages sometimes?
Suggestion: You could give him the ability to shoot web and that could be used to activate levers buttons etc. you could also make it so you have to eat to stay alive and you could catch bugs and there could be a really cool animation where it wraps it's prey up in web. This is great I really can't wait to play it, keep up the amazing work. ~Yours truly hop779
Maybe you could make this a multiplayer scrolling game, and have like a house to hang out in, maybe add in a chat feature. There could be like a kitchen and a bedroom, I think that would be really cool. Unless that would be too many legs to take care of. Nobody ever sees my comments so if you see it pls reply or like. :)
i also now found a simple possibility of how to make the legs transfer instead of teleporting. we can use ids for the legss and a sprite ofa small circle and then the circle always smooth transitions to target x and y. so then we record those x and y positions and thats where the legs should be.
I think the leg transition would work better if you didn't accept a new leg position until it had been in range for a second or so, to prevent the legs rapidly finding and leaving a position.
Making the player able to shoot out webbes.make the goal to destroy an insect home. Ex: level 1flies level 2 bees and increase difficulty. Make it a multiplayer game.
A game idea is a cave explorer where you go through a maze and be chased by a bigger spider and eat dead flies to gain energy and sprint then rest in cobwebs
maybe its just a game you scroll through a giant city and try to scare everyone you see and collect Spidey Coins on the way to buy upgrade to make you scarier to earn more money
I think a good idea would be to maybe turn it in to a platformer and instead of jumping over the spikes or lava you use spidies long legs to possibly climb over them
Fish eat spiders... there can be fish swiming around the level and you have to avoid them to survive and at the end you get to the fly swamp and eat all the flys to end the game.
Griffpatch I love your tutorials and vids!!!! Now, this doesn't have anything to do with this video but maybe you can make a paper Minecraft series? Thx.
Try to make a system where if you cick on a wall the spider-cat will shoot a web a start moving towards the spot where you shot the web. Just like Spider-Man!
you could make a feature when you press space or some button then the spider transforms into a spider man but with a cat head and the abilities of spider man and if you press space again then it transforms back into spider cat

Hi griffpatch i love your tutorials
Veery cool and cute
Love your voice and videos
You should make a game where you're a spider hidden in a wall and you need to move around to avoid pesticides
Spooder cat lol
I really can’t wait for this!
You could code a game that scrolls upwards and there are blocks you have to climb through or dodge and the higher u climb the more points u get but there is a timer and u have to get as many points as possible during the limit
Cool idea!
Hmm
deja vu
This is crazy! How easy you make Inverse Kinematics look

OMG A HEART THANK YOU SO MUCH GRIFFPATCH 💙💙💙💙💙
Something that you could add is make sider-cat shoot a web that could grab on to objects, enemies, or function as a grappling hook.
OMG I hope there will be a collab i love crystal keeper's artwork!
This could be one of the most atmospheric games on scratch if you turned this into a game! cant wait. :D
I agree this has the potential to really sell as a atmospheric driven game

To anyone afraid of spiders, just remember that Lucas the spider exists
who?
i have no possible clue how you come up with this
also, i love the editing!
"It's just some simple math"
*Proceeds to explain trigonometry in greater depth*
I've always loved Inverse Kinematics, super cool seeing it in scratch!
Me too!
@@griffpatch WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE GAME
"I made realistic creepy legs" has got to be one of the most funniest names you've chosen this year, Griff.
Wow, this is awesome! I don't know how you managed to figure out that the leg parts joined at one end!
Can't wait for part 2!
I love this style of video. I usually don't actually follow the tutorial videos, I just watch them because im curious how you implement various mechanics. So this type of video is perfect!

8:16 that part left me egbhjkdsfhined. the fact that he has Guy as his logo is crazy. the font, the quality, I just love the new logo.

Why are griffpatch's thumbnails always so awesome? I've already noticed this like 10 times!
Holy crap, a collab with Griffpatch and CrystalKeeper? Cant wait to watch next vid!
Using the block "repeat 10 seconds" will make the leg spawning a lot smoother.
as someone who fears spiders and finds them gross... it was interesting how slowly progressively the video started getting gross lol. it was indeed the legs. the way they move about icks me

It feels so good actually being able to understand the math after having just learned trig functions. Thanks for explaining it so well Griffpatch!
Griffpatch why do you have to be so darn good at editing! you got out of the costume editor before I could even see how big the leg is
You always continue to create something amazing and original in each video.
Possible game idea:
A scrolling level or a set amount of preset levels like the platformer tutorials.
Another couple ideas I had are several leg joints for avatar/power up possibilities, dampening movement(goes to cursor like a spring doing a elastic like movement) and even more smooth movement(?)
you should make more of these devlog videos, its nice to just watch the process 👍
me: tries to make a stickman game with moving legs
griffpatch: releases a video about leg joints
me: hooray!
This looks exactly like some Xbox game, “spider chaos” or “spider mayhem” or something
sooooo ccoooollll girffpatch you are AWESOME!!!! ive done most of your toitorials!!
I think it would be fantastic if you could catch flies and you get coins for it then you can use your coins for skins and upgrades EX: longer legs
Woohoo! Great video :)
Using this you could make a platformer that scrolls up and you have to make sure your legs can hold you or else you fall to the start
This is so satisfying to look at, I'm really excited to see where you can take this!

i think it would most likely belong in a horror game where it chases you through a scrolling maze
I think the leg transition would work better if you didn't accept a new leg position until it had been in range for a second or so, to prevent the legs rapidly finding and leaving a position.
game that uses the spooder cat:
spooder adventure (there are certain puzzles that require using the climbing abillity.)
Hey! This could be use for a really good story/horror kind of game. With nice mechanics, maybe enemies, parkour, and ye. It could be fun to play.
Great way to start my morning. Haven't seen a devlog in a good while!
I always waiting for more videos of griffpatch!
i love how he just made a raycast in scratch with physical sprites, i would not have thought of that
Making the player able to shoot out webbes.make the goal to destroy an insect home. Ex: level 1flies level 2 bees and increase difficulty. Make it a multiplayer game.
Yep - CrystalKeeper7's art would make this project stand out! ;)
A possible game idea could be a sort of horror where you have to run away from the spider although that may be a bit too far
A game idea is a cave explorer
where you go through a maze and be chased by a bigger spider and eat dead flies to gain energy and sprint then rest in cobwebs
maybe its just a game you scroll through a giant city and try to scare everyone you see and collect Spidey Coins on the way to buy upgrade to make you scarier to earn more money
Made this project, gonna share it on scratch
I think a good idea would be to maybe turn it in to a platformer and instead of jumping over the spikes or lava you use spidies long legs to possibly climb over them
I'm excited for the final product and devlog 2
You have to make a level where the goal is to climb up a waterspout and maybe avoid rain pouring down
We got an spider?
-No , we got scrider!
Fish eat spiders... there can be fish swiming around the level and you have to avoid them to survive and at the end you get to the fly swamp and eat all the flys to end the game.
In some levels, I would like to see spidey-cat catch some flies
This is why I want to go to college - learn trigonometry and have a bigger brain to make pen stuff like griffpatch
@Griffpatch, my idea to you is that you should make a number counter that shows what the y position of the spider body is.
that creature will haunt my worst nightmares
Griffpatch Did You Know?: CrystalKeeper7 Also Made The Other Levels On Your Geometry Dash Project!
I did! :)
you should remake Spiderheck with this! (it's a fun game on Steam, it does cost a few dollars though.)
Nah this collab is going to be epic
In the title you saw 'I made creepy legs with Inverse Kinematics'
I saw 'I made creepy legs with I Know'
We are different.
Agreed
Griffpatch I love your tutorials and vids!!!! Now, this doesn't have anything to do with this video but maybe you can make a paper Minecraft series? Thx.
Can you bring a video of making a pause menu for that Lemonoid Invasion project? Please 😌
I think that instead of making this the player, you could make this an enemy and have a similar but edited version of the player.
make a game where enemies spawn from all sides and move to the other side and the more enemies you dodge, the more points you have
so what have we learned: scratch isnt for kids grid lists and pen scripts are very OP
Idea: Make Spooder Cat have entities to avoid
Try to make a system where if you cick on a wall the spider-cat will shoot a web a start moving towards the spot where you shot the web. Just like Spider-Man!
Spoocat. The spidey hero
i want to look at the second devlog ASAP!
you should make a tutorial on this because its really cool!
aaaaa whenever i try to make something you make it even better a week lter
Oh no! You were trying to make a spidder too?
I can't wait for another video!
you could use this for walking over changing terrain for realism, just change the math a little
Try to making the legs clones maybe, so that the legs look more clean and have custom art.
A 4v1 horror game
i recommend making a physics platformer puzzles
Could you make a tutorial on and working inventory system with crafting?
Have you considered that with stable diffusion and outpainting you can create video game background art with no skills for free?
What a time to be alive
Just started Scratch, and this is really helpful
Edit: I'm further in the video and it's starting to get really weird
Reminds me of Rain World creatures ngl
This helped me a lot!
I have an idea for the how to do the movements. Check if of the legs is touching the level is so, let the player move.
how about a human holding a swater and some of them shooting out little swater projectiles
Omg a colab with vrystal keeper
you could make a feature when you press space or some button then the spider transforms into a spider man but with a cat head and the abilities of spider man and if you press space again then it transforms back into spider cat
Ha, that would be unique!
*Terraria Celeste Slimerancher Man*
When will Devlog #2 come out? Ever?
at 5:51 It looked like a not so cool army symbol
how do you put "random" in "item of ****** 'found'" block
I might make a boss fight with this
