My tv (exact same model) has been used as a computer monitor for a few years because this happened. Thank you for uploading.

Smashing, simple job for a change :-D
Ive never liked sockets being held down with solder terminals only, its not what solder is for, but thats just my opinion.

All plugs and Jacks need to be physically bonded to the cabinet or they will eventually fail as this one did.

Slot mounted capacitors? Never heard of those. What are they?

Hi, I want to remove the socket alltogether. Which contact points do I have to short circuit so that sound does come from the inbuilt speakers of the TV?

Hello again and thanks for the advice on my sony ta-636 amp, the right channel sounds scratchy sometimes its not the pots ive cleaned them all do you think it would be worth me doing a full re-cap? i love the sound of this amplifier so would love it working properly, it is a V-FET design from 1979, ive also noticed when i press the source selector buttons from tape to aux theres a pop in the speaker

I would check the voltages for your amplifier bias first. Could be an open resistor causing a DC bias problem. A leaky coupling cap could also be the culprit. You will need a print to see how things are connected.

I have not long finished working in a comms room that had four of these things being used as large PC monitors - they are utter garbage as far as I am concerned. Every one of them has had T-Con boards replaced.

I agree. Most modern stuff is garbage. Barely lasts the duration of the warranty. There is no quality in most electronics today. Build them as cheap as possible a they are all throw away. The last of the truly servicable displays were the plasma. Everything after th plasma became very light and very cheap. I won't even look at most of them. I stick to vintage stuff mostly. Repairable, and profitable as vintage audio buffs readily open their wallets to get their pride and joy repaired.

El cheapo way to attach a headphone jack, like you say, perhaps that's the plan, it'll break and they'll buy another nasty modern telly from China. I liked the old type of jack with the little screw-on bezel, mechanically secured and not just relying on the solder.

Has a terrible picture next to the 12 old plasma sitting next to it on the bench.
