Nice comparison. I’m a huge fan of these 8 year old cask strength expressions. I was was able to get my hands on both the port and sherry versions recently and they are both fantastic.

I was able to get some bottles of the heavily peated batch 4 at saq (it was sold out online in 4 minutes) . I agree it is not for everybody (very intense peat and maritime flavors) , but it is one of my all time favorite. A steal for this price.

Jim, the Whisky Novice gave me samples of each of these when I was back in N.Ireland in July. Thanks for the rundown, definitely helped. :). The '16' was a bit of a let down for me, in comparison to the '12'. Muted, I agree, is a good word to describe it. The '8' ... well ... THAT one got my attention! Never ever have I had a whisky like that! Wow! 90+ whisky! :)

Nice review Rob I have got both the sherry and port ordered so definitely looking forward to those. The 12 has been a staple for me for a few years now. It never disappoints.

Nice rundown! I tried the latest batch of the Heavily Peated and yes, it was pretty young and rough. Kind of hard to justify when the excellent 12yr is around the same price...
Got lots of orchard fruit and funk on my last 12yr which was still the old style bottle!
    Great stuff.

Great video really enjoyed it. I agree with you on the 12 vs 16, at first I preferred the 16 but as I get more into both bottles the 12 is better. Just recently tried the 8yr Sherry cask and was very impressed but I still like the 8yr Port Cask more. Keep doing what you’re doing. Slainte Mhath!

Good rundown Rob. I've only had a couple of bottles of Kilkerran 12 and it is fantastic. Hopefully will get my hands on 8 CS wine finished offerings some day.

Outstanding Rob! I haven’t been able to obtain an 8 sherried since 19 (the version we all loved). I have a 12 from 17 or 18 which I just opened as well as the first 8 which is all bourbon casks. No a big peat head but Ctown I seem to love! Once again loved this review and comparison! Thank you Sir! (So happy the Yankees beat the Jays today! LOL) Neal

Great walkthrough. I enjoy Kilkerran. I have tried hard to find the 8 year caskstrength 2022 but it's sold out everywhere. I did not experience as much sulphur as you in last years, but I have high hopes for this years, if I can find it! Thanks for your thoughts. Cheers!

Here in the European Union, the Kilkerran range is also the most accessible of the Springbank whiskies, and the Kilkerran 12 is by far the most affordable. To me, the Springbank 10 is a good deal more complex and flavorsome than the KK 12, but that is my opinion and, as you say, the compositions of the Springbank releases vary from batch to batch. That said, I agree with you that the KK 12 is still a bargain when you see what you have to shell out for the 8 y.o. port wood, for example. Assuming you can even get your hands on a bottle 🙂

Hi Rob, enjoying re-watching this video as I have just tried the eight cask strength at a Spring bank tasting last night and it was amazing by the way, 2024 not 2023 hopefully one day I can try that and after the tasting we were able to purchase through ticket draw up to three bottles there were 11 Springbank 15, 😅five Springbank 10 and five Spring Bank 13 local Barley, 17 killkerren 8 and a number of longrow
I didn’t manage to get a local barley, but I got a 15 I took it first because there was less on my second turn. I took the eight and then when all the spring bank were gone. People didn’t take any more of the 8’s so I was able to get a second for $97 each, but I think they’re worth 225
    Thanks, I appreciate your opinions

The kilkerrans are more peated than Springbanks. My max preference of peat the last 2 years is within Springbank. If peat hit your boxes I think the KK12 is a better go than the springer 10.

is it true that after about 2 years of opening the bottles , they start to go bad? or does the profile just really change a lot after about a couple years ? If so, doesn't that concern you with the beautiful collection you have of opened bottles? I would feel so pressured to have to drink a lot every night 😅

Have to agree on the 16, I have it a couple of months and I've barely touched it, it's pretty boring, much prefer the 12. Can't understand how the 16 won third best malt at scotch whisky awards!

I'm a Kilkerran fan boy, love the 8yr and Heavily peated (both $90usd). But @ $175 usd for the 8 that's a hard pass. I just passed on the Longrow Red 15yr @ $150 the day before (I'm sure secondary will be 3x that). Campbeltown is the Buffalo Trace of scotch.
