1) There are no pain receptors in the brain. It is what feels, not what generates feeling. So he didn’t feel PAIN, exactly. But he felt the man’s mind fail, fray, and then fail. 2) This movie was made on a shoestring budget. The fact that it’s SO good is just amazing. But scenes like Charles’ and Shaw’s faces in the same space, both cameras moving to follow the coin’s progress, even though there’s no physical coin with Charles. Other than the CGI coin itself, that scene was just that good because of the actors and the director. And the set caterers. Those guys are owed a debt by the whole world.
First time i saw this movie I flat out said at the start that if I were magneto, I'd send that coin straight through his skull. I totally called it. Lol
Magneto’s helmet has always been a symbol of him being a villain. Often when he’s been allied with the X-men in the comic books he ditches the helmet. But we he turns back into a villain the helmet goes back on
The coin had to be moved slowly because Shaw’s power is to absorb and be strengthened by kinetic energy. By moving the coin slowly, little to no kinetic energy is created for him to absorb, deflect, and be strengthened by. Charles holding him still also helps with this. 😊
I know that Magneto is usually a bad guy, but I agreed with him in this part of the movie💯 When the villain tortures you & unalives your mama….. it’s time for him to go to the afterlife😂🤷🏾♂️ F*** allat “take him to jail” BS
In the comic books Shaw and Magneto have fought before and Magneto usually wins by burying Shaw in metal. No kinetic energy for Shaw to absorb and he burns through his power trying to escape the trap.
I cosign this as well it isn't in the slightest perfect but it manages to tell a story and set up major plots in a simple easy way which makes it balanced and one of the more structured X-Man movies amongst the more messed up movies within the Fox X-Man universe (X-Men Origins and Dark Pheonix X-Man the last stand I'm looking at you)
*I don't think most people get the gravity of what Charles experienced in that moment: Yes, he felt the pain of the coin going through his brain, but that is just the tip of the iceberg. Just like Magneto hypothesized (And the zoom onto Shaw's face ostensibly confirmed) Shaw was still conscious as Erik moved the coin and Charles could hear his thoughts! Shaw must have been screaming to Charles, begging him to let him go and to not let Erik end his life. He may even have cursed Charles and put the blame squarely on him for his pain and death: In essence, it is no different than if Charles had killed him himself! Now, some will say "So what? Bad guy got his comeuppance!" But the question at hand is not what Shaw got for his troubles, but rather: What Charles had to live with for the rest of his life! His own guilt in assisting Magneto in getting his revenge on top of the failure to see that dénouement coming and failing to prevent it. THAT to Charles is more torturous than the pain he felt via Shaw from the coin!*
I agree with all of that. However - there's that line just as he establishes control - "I can only control this man for so long!" Shaw's energy and willpower is ENORMOUS and the implication is that he WILL break Charles' hold on him if this goes on too long! Charles MUST keep Shaw locked down or - lets face it - his best friend Eric WILL be killed brutally. Shaw really is THAT powerful and THAT dangerous! Eric was all but beaten just moments before and it was only the team-up of Eric and Charles that gave them the temporary upper hand. But if Charles relaxes even for a moment, Shaw - despite his words of not wanting to hurt Eric - would kill him INSTANTLY to escape his fate if Charles doesn't keep him held! Yes - Charles effectively had his part in killing Shaw. But Eric forced his hand the moment he put on the helmet. If Eric was not there, Charles would let Shaw go at some point or his control would be broken and Shaw would escape. Charles would be merciful if allowed. But Eric didn't allow it. This is a masterful example of the face-heel turn. You sympathize with Eric. You AGREE on some level with Eric. But at the same time - Eric in this moment abused his friendship with Charles and left him no choice but to participate in this execution. Was it wrong to kill Shaw? Not really. Was it wrong to force Charles to participate? Almost certainly. It was Eric's hatred for Shaw and Charles' love for his friend that doomed them all to this course. But the moment Eric became MAGNETO was the moment he donned that helmet! That was the point of no return.
Magneto saying “You are my creator” made me think of Dr. Frankenstein and Adam, the creature. If the doctor was evil and Adam was getting revenge. P.S. Author Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley gave Frankenstein’s creature the name of “Adam” in the novel “Frankenstein, Or, The Modern Prometheus”.
Magneto actually calls himself Frankenstein’s Monster earlier in this film. You hear an acoustic version of the theme you hear in this moment. The acoustic version is called, “Frankenstein’s Monster” while this version is called, “Magneto.” “Magneto” also plays in full at the end of the film, right after we see Magneto in full costume for the first time.
They should have showed the coin rotating or bouncing aound in his skull and not simply spinning cuz thats the only real way to make this more believable as a death (especially for someone that powerful). I knew a WW2 vet who got shot right between the eyes and survived with minimal lasting damage cuz the bullet went right between his left and right hemispheres. So a coin entering in a very similar spot with how narrow it is seems like it would do the same thing.
When I first saw Xmen: first class, my first thought was "FINALLY we get a reboot of the franchise..no more Bryan Singer!" ...and I thought we were heading in the right direction, especially with McAvoy & Fassbender at the helm cause they are good actors and played well off each other. So when Matthew Vaughn was slated to come back to do Days of Future Past...well let's just say it's the typical Hollywood story....the movie studio interfered with Vaughn's creative vision and he stepped down...and the movie was given to Bryan Singer. 🙄 which is why we also got that uneven mess Apocalypse cause Singer was brought back to the franchise. ...and yes that story was leaked before it became "hush-hush" , like I said 'typical Hollywood story'.
I feel that James McAvoy had done a pretty good job up to that point, but when he said “I can’t feel my legs”, he excelled. I believed that he actually couldn’t feel his legs. That’s some damn good acting.
For those of you that don't know Magneto's real name is (Magnus Lehnsherr) aka (Max) And the helmet he wears is not to block telepathy. The helmet he wears actually gives him the power to use telepathy. Juggernaut on the other hand. His helmet he designed so he can block out his brothers telepathy which is Charles Xavier.

It's impressively one of the least gruesome yet also most brutal deaths.
Perfect description.
Two powerhouse actors giving a hell of a performance.
What a freaking moment
Three. James Avery’s scream is nightmarish and brilliant.
This had GOT to be the most poetic villain defeat of all time, even if not my personal favorite (it came close, though).
What is your favorite then?
I always felt this was one of the most underrated sequels of the X Men franchise. It's so good it's staggering!
1) There are no pain receptors in the brain. It is what feels, not what generates feeling. So he didn’t feel PAIN, exactly. But he felt the man’s mind fail, fray, and then fail.
2) This movie was made on a shoestring budget. The fact that it’s SO good is just amazing. uh, he did feel pain with the piercing. of course, and the exit.
My questions is why didn't Charles get out of his head before then?
Am I the only one imagining the the coin being made to spin like a blender in Shaw's skull, and then made to exit as serenely as it entered?
First time i saw this movie I flat out said at the start that if I were magneto, I'd send that coin straight through his skull. I totally called it. Lol
Magneto’s helmet has always been a symbol of him being a villain. Often when he’s been allied with the X-men in the comic books he ditches the helmet. But we he turns back into a villain the helmet goes back on
Tbf, it's hard to do villain stuff when you have a telepath for a best friend
The coin had to be moved slowly because Shaw’s power is to absorb and be strengthened by kinetic energy. By moving the coin slowly, little to no kinetic energy is created for him to absorb, deflect, and be strengthened by. Charles holding him still also helps with this. 😊

In the end, Magneto made sure that Sebastian Shaw paid the fatal price for his crimes.
I know that Magneto is usually a bad guy, but I agreed with him in this part of the movie💯 When the villain tortures you & unalives your mama….. it’s time for him to go to the afterlife😂🤷🏾♂️ F*** allat “take him to jail” BS
He's too dangerous to be kept alive.
@@christopherking4932 YUP! Word to Mace Windu from STAR WARS💯🤣

The very definition of a splitting headache.
I love X-Men first class

Probably my favorite in the series

Yes!! And you're absolutely right people really don't get the gravity of the situation at all... It actually is that deep

After everything Shaw did to, not only his mother but others, I can't blame him for how he killed him.
He committed first degree of Kevin Bacon!!!😂😂😂
Charles felt the pain from the coin too, not just Sebastian.

I’d like to see reactions to when Charles gets paralyzed
If Charles unfroze time he would’ve survived but he helped kill a Defenseless man
Awesome video.
Can you do the "i can't feel my legs....I can't feel my legs"

You don't get to see stuff like this in the MCU

Years later, having Professor X scream like a lunatic in this scene was completely unneccessary.
Some of these reactors are as fake as hell. Just sayin.
