    This game just got added to Board Game Arena, and I've really been enjoying it.
    Not sure if I misunderstood, but you don't start with the resources on your empire card. That's just your starting production. You won't get those resources until the regular production phases. Also, just a note another downside of recycling a card that's under construction is the recycled resource has to go on your empire card.

    • @ProZD

      oops, if i said you start with them, i meant start them as production

    Absolutely love this game. Been playing ranked on BGA, getting demolished, and having the time of my life. Great review!

    Since you mentioned how you like everyone starts the same, you should check out the Empire Side C cards variant: everyone has no production but starts with 5 Krystallium cubes. This variant became a favorite with my group.

      @BMVfilms Рік тому

      Huh 5 sounds actually like a lot for a wild card resource! Do you start with them on your facility card?

    • @VincentDeloso
      @VincentDeloso Рік тому

      @@BMVfilms Yes, so from that first draft you're figuring out what to try to build immediately, which cards to recycle to help as well. 5 sounds like a lot, but realize that first turn production is pretty critical, and so you start stretching those 5 cubes really quickly.

    We got this game last Christmas and we have been enjoying it as well. Like you, I enjoy strategizing and planning everything so that you have the perfect amount of every material for all of your builds. It's very satisfying. At first I was a bit surprised that there are only 4 rounds but because you get exponentially more resources every round, it's easy to notice how 4 is actually the perfect amount.

    my brother in law has this game and I've played it a couple of times. the learning curve is pretty interesting in that the individual decisions you make are pretty simple - which card do I take, do I recycle or construct this card, where do I put the resources I just produced - but the interactions of the different systems immediately get you into the mindset of all the strategic complexity. I think the design of the game is really great for that reason, the mechanics kind of get out of their own way and let you get pretty quickly into the strategy of it. that strategic complexity can be a lot for a new player, but you immediately understand more or less what your options are and that your decisions matter

    This is a great repeatable play board game. It is very addictive and satisfying when you can keep the combo going. The biggest downside is that this game is really biased toward players with more playtime under their belt.
    Your boardgame group needs to be in the same skill level otherwise the new player will get destroyed pretty hard while the veterans can already create million combo inside their heads.
    Also, the tutorial side is extremely unbalanced, once you already learned the game you should always play on B or C sides.

    If you like this game, the sequel ‘It’s a Wonderful Kingdom’ is also really good. It’s 2 players only but the drafting has really good bluffing and trap mechanics that make for a really interesting twist. The rest of the game is similar engine building/scrapping/etc, but I personally now prefer the new one to the original.

    Probably the last time (and only second time) I’ll ask, cuz I don’t want to be that kind of guy, but I’d love it if you’d review Xia: Legends of a Drift System. It’s fun game that (while relying on dice a fair amount) let’s you make unique experiences each time you play, due to both luck and strategy. While I can’t be confident it would be your favorite game (again, due to the dice), I’d still love a review nonetheless to get somebody’s opinion who has more board games knowledge to compare it to.
