I’d just like to tell you that for a while now, I’ve been listening to your reviews during my panic attacks because your calm, matter of fact voice is really good for grounding me and helping me get through it. Thank you.
That is actually brilliant, I might need to try that now that finals are coming up.
Seems like one of those games that would benefit greatly from a computer calculating everything for you.
I used to go to a weekly board game night with friends.90% of the games they liked were like that. When the pandemic started, I was glad we switched to using Board Game Arena... then after a while, other people decided to switch to Tabletop Simulator, which to me is the worst of both worlds. (All the tedious counting, math, and rule-memorizing of doing everything by hand, plus all the technical issues and accidentally clicking the wrong thing of using a computer.) I quit participating shortly after that.
@@kane2742 I never wanted to use tts. Hows bga? The reason i like i person games is the dynamic. Talking, persuading, planning. Especially with war games
Nah get good at math
@@naturesfinest2408 I liked BGA. We talked over Discord while we used it, and it was nice having the games keep track of things for us - not just the math, but also reminding us if we accidentally tried to do something out of order, letting us know that a move was against the rules, etc.
Every game has manual state management. The more complex the game, the more state to manage and more rules to remember. This is appealing to some people. A computer runs it for them. Different strokes for different folks.
Why does it feel like a game Ben Wyatt would make? Cubes of Dunshire
It took me way too long to understand that every player gets their own city instead of building the same one.
I kept wondering why different cubes are colored after different players for no reason.
Fun fact about this game, there's a rule that says you can cheat as long as you don't get caught.
So don't get too worried about the rules.
This game was so tedious and complicated that I thought this was an April Fool's joke lol
ikr, lmao
Wait, you mean this isn't an April's Fool day video?
the only thing i dislike is imagining these cube towers falling over nonstop.
I kick started a board game several years ago called cities up and that was the exact same problem I had with the final product. It involved a lot of blocks and they would just constantly fall over
This might work better as one of those Lego board games. I could see a game exactly like this being played with bricks on a Lego board and nothing would ever fall over.
I feel this game would've been great if the blocks were shaped and "clickable" so the construction would automatically follow the rules
Clickables are annoying cause they make the game take so long for people to get things to click. Like if you’ve ever played Eclipse the only clicking part is the resource track but it’s the most annoying part of the game for me
Would have to be custom made, whereas just cubes you can buy in bulk and replaced easily.
Whenever I am at my parent's house, I watch all your board game reviews while I'm walking my dog around the house, helps me get through the boredom of watching my dog keenly sniff the same corner of the yard that she investigated 4 hours ago. Board games are a hobby that I really want to partake in, but the friends I hang out with aren't very interested in really getting into them. My favorite reviews so far are the ones you absolutely love, and the ones you aren't fond of, as they get to showcase the differing aspects of what does and doesn't work in this type of space. Thanks for putting time and effort into this, these really are some of my favorite videos you do
This seems like the "RNG Color Game" in Undertale in board game form.
Dude I was thinking the same thing the whole video! Glad I’m not alone in this
I can't imagine this would be all that fun to play. As you said, super fiddly, lots of tiny rules that interact with just one or two things, and then there's the whole part about counting your revenue which just seems like a headache. Definitely a candidate for a game that works much better if done through a computer than done manually.
I'm glad you found it fiddly to work with, I had a hard enough time trying to understand it.
This seems like the sort of game you accidentally play incorrectly the first 5-6 times
It took me FOREVER to realize this was an april fools joke. It is, right?
Yeah, that definitely looks more fiddley than it should be. If you're interested in a game that's kinda-sorta similar, you should check out The Estates! It's great for hitting that city planning itch with only a fraction of the rules.
it seems like this works a lot better as a video game, or with a companion app.
When you said you that stuff about the reviews people are mad about these but this game grabbed my eyes the moment I seen it wouldn't know it existed at all so please do keep doing what you love. Thanks for the reviews man and all the Lysanderoth shit man
I'm really sick so I've just been watching every random video I find (I'm not into boardgames outside of like Monopoly or Yahtzee) and these rules completely glazed my eyes over and reminded me of that game from Parks and Rec
Sounds like it might be a bit better on BGA, which would take care of a lot of the fiddliliness?
this is one of those games that i probably would like more if it had a different aesthetic.
These are the undisputed best videos to watch while brushing your teeth
those rules took me back to the complicated ass dnd rules
I love this game! Excited to see your opinion
Cubes of Dunshire
This game seems a bit too much like maths homework
Legit thought this was satire. I'm not a big boardgame person, I find many too slow.
I guess anything with tactical skill and thinking can become fun. I do enjoy chess.
You'll have to get more than 8000 rainbow cubes to beat me!!
I heard you like wargames? What kind of? Cosims or miniature wargames, which systems? Would love a video.
The premise sounds like Machi Koro.
Vertical, very nice!
This sounds like a great game to rightfully turn people away from zoning.
i dunno if youve already done this, but can you make a top 10 boardgames thing??? boardgames seem really cool to get into but i dont know where to start
But can I play a Farmer card?
Have you tried Urban Sprawl? It a lot different from this game but you may find it interesting
You need to play Tidal Blades
No dice required
How do you keep making space for these games in your house?! :)
He only keeps some of them.
Alright, but where do you spend 50 food to create villagers?
Looks like Tiny Towns got bigger
These rules are so restrictive. Honestly, it should be reworked. Trying to keep up with your explanations just made me zone out. I gave up on it. It's such a simple, but cute design. . . unfortunately, the rules (as you said) are non-intuitive. And the entire process is RNG. It doesn't sound like very much fun to play the game as intended by the developers.
Based on what you said (haven't played the game myself), I have some ideas for changes that could be made to make the game simpler:
- Instead of being in their own stacks, elevators have to go between cubes and count as the same cube type as the one below them (so you could have a stack of residential -> elevator -> residential -> elevator -> residential)
- Parking garages are a different type of block entirely (maybe a gray block)
- Yellow blocks can't have anything on top of them and are optional, but give bonuses for every block around them
- Red blocks can be banked for later
If you haven’t already you should reach out to Shut Up & Sit Down to do a collab video. Theyre a hilarious channel, and I’m sure you already know of them I just wanted to say it anyway
Yeeeee
It looks so pleasant, but sounds so unpleasant
Honestly, this just seems like a worse version of Suburbia. At least in that you don't need to memorize what every tile does since that's printed on the tiles themselves.
play ghetto opoly lol
Hype
huh
