- Replacing the valves in a Lifan 125cc clone of the Honda Z50 engine.
Video is part 1, shows removing the head from the engine, disassembling the head and removing the valves.
I don't have a valve spring compressor so I used a regular C clamp and a tool I made on my mill (video here - • Using Manual Lathe and... ). Someone without a mill could make something similar with metal tube and a hacksaw/file.
Part 2 - • Valve Replacement on L...
Smoke usually means oil is leaking into the combustion chamber (or you put 2 stroke mix in the fuel tank) and loss of power may be due to low compression (did it start out of nowhere after otherwise running fine?). If both issues started the same time you might have loose bolts somewhere. Check the torque on your head bolts.
Thank god for no annoying music.
I thought I was watching "how to set valve clearances", then you started taking bolts out of the cam sprocket. I was thinking "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" 😂
If you still own this channel, what size thread is on that tool you used to remove the rocker arms? Thanks

All of this stuff looks pretty new and unworn. Was there an actual problem with the engine, and if so, what was it and what do you think caused the problem?
what camera and lens did you use to shoot this vid? Looks ace.
if your valves are bad, does oil leak from the exhaust pipe attached to the engine? like in the video 1:58 from there.
thanks for the help. can the valves be bought from a local bike shop.
Hi Nate other day I was out and my tappet crew fell into cylinder, have since replaced but now when I rev sounds horrible , any ideas , near no power bike will move but
So I just finished adjusting the valves on a 110cc engine and as I was putting the cover back on I over tightened it and heard a crack. A metal piece from the cover broke off and Idk where it went. Do I need to take the head off and remove it? Will it cause any damage if I left it in there?
I'd never heard of that brand before, appears to be different maker than the Lifan. If it's a close clone of the Honda Z50 engine you will probably have a similar process as in the video.
It's a Nikon D5100 with the 18-55mm included lens. I'm very happy with the Camera.
Yo this saved mans day brada
If a 4 stroke is smoking it means oil is getting into the combustion chamber - this could be from a bad gasket or seal, a bad piston ring etc. So a faulty valve seal could let oil into the combustion chamber - but it could be something as simple as the head bolts being a bit loose, so I'd probably check the torque on those first.
If your leaking oil between cylinder and head then either your head gasket is shot or your head bolts are loose or both.
hi thanks for the video , is there a procedure during torquing the head bolts like criss cros patten
hey my bike recently hasnt been working very good. when im riding it wont build up the revs all the way and wont go top speed so its really laggy when riding. exhaust smoke and some oil starts coming out of the engine between the head and the cylinder when you give it throttle. I was just wondering if the valves in the cylinder head are supposed to be completely sealed cuz i took mine apart and it seems as if there not so i was just thinking maybe that could be my problem? your thoughts? thanks!
It's 1P54FMI. Double check with your own measurements before buying valves. I ordered some before I took my head off, and they were too small.
Wrong sequence, first remove the camshaft sprocket from the camshaft , then the side cylinder and head bolts and at last the 4 top head nuts....the opposite way of the assembly
If you have oil being forced out of the actual valve cover then I'd check that your breather tube isn't plugged up and make sure you dont have too much oil in it.
Why is there always one copper washer on that top head ? And usually one acorn but replaced with one regular nut on most of the mini pit bikes
Copper washer and acorn is for an oil return along the same channel as the cylinder bolt - acorn nuts aren’t open at the end and so it seals against the copper washer so oil doesn’t leak.
Where do you buy the piece that you are using to remove the spring retainers?
I was re-tapping the spark lug hole for a timsert and got my timing marks mixed up... the valves weren't closed so the tap took a bite out of a valve. Completely my fault.
I have a SSR with 125cc in it, would you know the size of the valves? I have a bent valve and need to replace them.
I'd want to get it out of there - but it will likely not make it past the small oil passages into anywhere to cause a problem.
Tilt the bike to the side that the drain hole is on, Then put it level, hopefully this will get the seal somewhat close to the drain hole. Make something from wire that looks like a fish hook and insert that into the drain hole as the oil is draining out, hopefully the draining oil flow will move the seal nearer the hole and you can snag it with the hook you made....
is there a specific torque for the bolts on the cylinder head?
this is strangely relaxing
I bought my Appollo Orion 29 a few weekes ago - with no luck i was screwed.. I am now trying to fix my valves but mine does not slide out like yours - 10:00
Thank you for the help!! :)
Look on the casting and make sure there's nothing keeping them in, if not then find a bolt with threads the same size as the pins, screw it in and use that to pull them out. If your still having trouble then try some penetrating oil and let them sit for a while. Is there corrosion visible on them? That would make it difficult.
Thanks alot! I got it figured out just after my comment (A bit of muscle helped)
Another problem that really gets on my nerves! - I do NOT have a compressorgun, and ive tried Oil, wd40 - still cant undo the bolts.. At 08:00 You have two simple bolts on each side to hold the cover on. My cover itself IS a bolt - So its a bolt cover thingymagik... My Orion is from 2002 so I guess thats why?
Heres an example: www.google.dk/imgres?imgurl=tboltusa.com/store/images/100_0089.JPG&imgrefurl=tboltusa.com/store/pit-bike-engine-parts-engine-covers-engine-parts-c-51_514.html&h=480&w=640&tbnid=T24nytbWjuQxlM:&zoom=1&docid=FgbFCwtxX_mGhM&ei=tJnmVPf9FoL6PIaNgZAH&tbm=isch&ved=0CCIQMygDMAM
Thank you SO much for your help! It is really nice to actually get a response, and useful information/help :) Thank you!!
How did you get the cam gear off, the part where you used what looks like needle nose pliers. I have thebolts off, but the chain doesn't seem loose enough to get it off. ThaNKS.
David Graham On the underside of the engine, there's a cam chain tensioner bolt. It's near the oil drain plug. If you unscrew that it will loosen the chain enough (watch out when removed, oil and several parts will come out). I tried to find the part of the video that shows it being removed - but I seem to have forgotten to film it, sorry about that.
Thanks for responding. I saw and tried it, to the point of accidentally taking it out entirely, the spring popped out. The chain was no looser.
What ended up working for me was putting the cap nuts back on to tighten the head the back down. Thanks again.
is that a genuine mikuni and regardless is it a 24 or 26mm? and final question do you feel like it runs rich? and backfires on deceleration??
Can u make a video on how th change the gaskets
I made it myself (there's a link in the description to that video).
You can buy them or make your own with a piece of aluminum tube and a dremel.
Isn't there a forum you can argue about this on?
Did your heart go in ya mouth when that cam chain. Sprocket started rolling back into the engine?
That might be your "valve stem oil seals". You can see them in Part 2 of this video. If you have good compression your valves themselves might be fine and you just need the two small seals.
However, to replace the seals, you need to remove the valves anyway so you may as well replace them too.
I got a set of valves with oil seals from eBay by searching for "lifan 125cc valves" - Don't trust that the seller is right about the size, remove and measure your valve diameter before buying.
My lifan is very smoky ,and when I give it full throtle it loses power ! What's wrong ?
What should I do ?
Sorry, just reading that guys comments pissed me off. Well I just got a Bran new pit bike, put it together, seems to run fine. I have 2 identical. Showed up at the same time. One of them, when it warms up and I rev it, it smokes from the front of the exhaust, not out the tail. And it leaks oil, I can see it dripping from my exhaust bolt off the head, I tightened the 4 bolts at the very front of the head. Didn't want to over tighten. Doesn't seem to have made a difference. Bran spanken new bike. Never seen a honda do that new.....
Not that I could find, so I'm using the Honda Z50 service manual's value of 7 to 9 ft/lb. I didn't want to post that value in the video in case it was wrong as I found conflicting info in another shop manual.
Where do i put the timing chain oil?
I need help I was checking my oil on my pit bike and the oil seal for the dip stick fell in and I can't get it out what will I do and what happens if I start it
Hello sir what kind of tools did you use to pull the thing 10.2???? Thank u
Manny Sanidad The dowels for the cam rocker are threaded inside, you just use a bolt threaded the same, screw it in and use that to pull out the dowel - I think its 8mm.
@@n1bpd hello how about spairparts of black hawck available or not
I have a Lifan 124cc(very similar to the on in the video). How do I get a vacuum fuel pump to work with this engine? Like where do I put the vacuum line?
+abbed Idriss I might be wrong, but I don't think you can on the engine I have, there is no vacuum pump on it.
Loss of compression if they just don't seal (as in my case) or the motor not running at all if they are bent enough (extreme over-rev from downshifting instead of up).
Loss of compression or the engine not running doesnt mean its the valve... you could have a leak elsewhere or something else. You'll have to read up on troubleshooting.
I bent a 50cc valve once by getting up to speed then coasting and slapping it down in first gear. It was extremely bent. Hard lesson.
What size socket did you use at 5:30 mate
hey i need some help. how would you no if you need a valve replace meant.
Y do mine have a paper gasket there but wen I try that one u have it don’t fit
Ok 1 more. Would it cause a engine to smoke.?
I believe its called the "Piston Plate Comp.", I have no idea what it does.
They are clones of a Honda design (with some internal and external changes). They are not made by, nor do they have the same quality as a Honda.
I took the cover off and checked to make sure and they are 9mm.
What brand and model carb do you have on that thing?
It's a Mikumi VM26-606, very happy with it.
Como puedo conseguir una maquina lifan??
one of the head studs are loosening with the bolt what do I do?!?!?!
What would i seal my head gasket up with??
with a new gasket ofcourse
I have a question the Pistom must be up or down
up
The head off my 140cc pit bike is making a spluttering noise when I start smoke is also coming from spark plug any help thanks?
Declan Reo oil cooled?
It's a Motoped, cant post a link, but just add dot com to the end of that to get their site.
yeeeyee I got the motoped lifan 125 tooo!! thanks for the instruction friend
cheers from santa cruz
Sealant for the petcock. It was leaking no matter what I use so I used a little too much of something I cannot remember (hasn't leaked since at least).
hondas dont die/ you have to kill them, can u say that about a lifan ?
I say this as someone who is more than happy with the Lifan (and its lasted several years) - BUT, Honda's are superior to them.
I have taken several Chinese clone and a few Honda Z-50/ST-70 engines apart and there is a distinct difference in the quality of materials used, their processing, design choices and the level of finish. Even the difference in quality between the Chinese engines as pretty big.
hi I've got a 110cc Chinese quad but its started to smoke really bad any ideas guys thank you
rings
ooh god! ty man! my hero :D trying to change my sachs madass enginge but i have absolutly no knoledge and didn't knew what i had to do :D
Whats the thing you take out at 04; 00?
It's a bolt that holds on the cam sprocket cover on the other side of the head.
You shouldn't need to replace the valves. I messed mine up when when I was using a time-sert to fix a cross threaded spark plug - being lazy and not removing the head when I was using the time sert. The tap nicked the edge of a valve and I lost compression.
there is standing 49cc on the engineblock ??? 4:20
The Cylinder has a molded in marking of 125cm^3.
There is small tag that says 49cc that is attached to the flywheel cover - which I added myself.
+n1bpd oh I know why you did that, because it's a moto-ped and if you are caught by police you don't want them to know its a 125cc?
11:04 where did you get that tool
I made it. You could make from from a wooden dowl and a file/hand drill.
This is how I made this one, but wood will work.
ua-cam.com/video/olcOdBj4CGE/v-deo.html
n1bpd thanks
Hello again and thanks alot for your help and replies!! Ive now reassembled Everything and tomorrow i hopefully Can start my Orion 29 - with the adjusted valves!
I made a tool similar to yours just with Wood - it Works beutifully!
No problem, did it start up ok?
can anyone tell me how to diagnose bad /bent valves ? Getting almost no compression in my 110 cc chinese quad
Levkin are your rings bad? are your plugs fouling
that1motokid - Took the motor apart the other day. It looked like a rat chewed off the edges of the piston. Rings were junk, almost welded to the piston
Why stretch it out. I fast forwarded 3 times then I sacked it.
This should be a ASMR kudos 👌
Thanks mate nice one
CarburTor name plzz
Is tgis bike pitpro125
thanks for the video, i needed this!
Very helpful thanx 4 da video
I am sorry I just thought I'd let you know that I clicked on a title that said it was going to be about tearing down a motor I didn't really want to watch you taking the plastic off. I know that seems kind of petty but really?
i can bet my life if this was an honda engine the valves would not need replacing
Thank you for sharing.
good job man
zahoor Baloch
Cool ; )
chinese manufacturers use cheap metals that dont last long, honda is far better quality thats a fact
how do u clean the top of the valves
Michael Brill wire wheel brush or put torch on them but don't warp the valves
