I buy a big free and clear five gallon bucket from fundraisers that is $45. I cannot stand commercial scents they give me bad headaches. We are a family of six and that five gallons lasts us about 7/8 months or longer if I’m careful about how much we use. Because most people actually use too much .

I like powdered Tide. Reality is I need like a tablespoon or 2 for a normal load.

I make my own detergent with either Bell Napa bar soap zote(what you have to shred), arm hammer super washing soda, baking soda and OxiClean . And for the rinse cycle I just use good old-fashioned white vinegar. I will tell you that I have a RV washer and I only use about a tablespoon per load so that equals out to 3 cents per load to wash .

How do you prevent it from gunking up.

I tried that. But, it came out to about the same cost as the detergent I normally got on sale. It didn't do any better, either.

Sun Detergent is made by Henkel North America, they also make Persil, Snuggle, All, Purex, and Surf detergent.
I started researching this kind of stuff to save money X-tra brand detergent is made by the same company that makes oxyclean.

I’m not sure if my water is the issue but I couldn’t use arm and hammer, I got it for about $0.50 a bottle on sale. My clothes were itchy and didn’t look quite right.
The said,I’m so glad it works for you. Have a blessed Holiday Season!

I purchase Persil for "free" with my Sam's Cash rewards points, and I water it down one part Percil, two parts water. It lasts a long time that way, and it cleans like a champ.

Thanks for the reviews. I might try Sun or Kirkland if on sale. I like Arm and Hammer; I buy it on sale and it is usually economical.

I'm talking from Brazil and start using dish soap for laundry. It's cheaper than soap laundry and clean cloathes perfectly.

Being single with a capsule wardrobe, I don’t do a lot laundry. My preference is All. I buy the 36oz for an average of $1. That’s about $0.0277 a load. I use white distilled vinegar for my rinse. I have a front loader washer.
Vinegar is fantastic as a softener and ensure there are no smells. All detergent does a great job and the vinegar catches any sneaker smell that might try to sneak by. My colors stay bright. My black stays black. My socks and bras are my only “whites.” They don’t seem to dinge.

I have a large and small bottle of All Clear here for the same reason. The larger bottles are cheaper especially if you catch them on sale. Then I use that to refill the smaller bottle because that's easier for me to carry.

I use the walmart eco friendly brand and its basically fine. If i need a little extra oomph, like for my dogs blankets or their stuff, use Borax. Cheap and works great!

I have to be careful with laundry detergents. I can't use scented ones.
First off, I have allergies and the scent can make me sneeze.
Secondly, I have an inner ear disorder, Meniere's disease. Scents can trigger a vertigo attack.
There are a few different ones that I've found that work for me. Arm and Hammer is one. Without looking, I couldn't tell you what else I've used.
I use vinegar instead of fabric softener. And I rarely use use a dryer. I love the way my husband laundry is smells after being out on the line. Thankfully, it's never been a problem with my allergies.

I also should add that this is a powder detergent in this lasts me at least I would say probably a year to two years so for me it's worth it.

I guess if you like Kirkland, I know sometimes they put them on sale.
    I use Nellie's washing soda.

For 2 decades I have been using Kirkland brand laundry Detergent, hands down cheapest option in Canada that works well. I only pour to the number 2 level for a normal load I put in, one never needs to use the recommended amount and I always pour the little bit of left over back into the Detergent container. One container can last me over 2 months for my family of 4 and I do alot of laundry.

I am allergic to detergent, so have been using washballs for years. That has saved me a lot of money, as the wash all lasts a while. I put in a small amount of white distilled vinegar with each was to replace softener.

The blue Tandil is Aldi's "version" of Purex so it's logical you wouldn't like it. The orange bottle from Aldi is their "Tide" and the Green is "Gain". I think they are all pretty subpar for the price.I don't like Sun I think it's bad. I like Dollar Tree LA Awesome 64 oz size for 1.25 the blue oxygen formula. Stay away from the yellow bottle.

Problem with the powder is with HE machines which use less water then older models it doesn't always dissolve or rinse off the clothes.
